It is not abandonment or neglect; it is simply a loving pet owner that can no longer care for their pet. We are so happy when they reach out to us so that we may help find the pup a new, loving home instead of being turned into a shelter where, sadly, their fate is commonly not a good one. Turning in a dog is by no means easy on the human, but the dog also goes through a lot of stress and feelings of loss. They just don’t understand why they were taken from their home and their people. Mystic is going through this right now, and we are in search of new people for her, people who will be just as lucky to get her as she is them. PERSONALITY: Mystic is a beautiful Plot Hound Mix with silky brindle fur that looks like a tiger, and a delightful personality to boot! Foster mom says she is super sweet and very smart. Mystic is young and energetic and would absolutely love a young couple to hike with or a family with children to play with (we ALWAYS stress, however, that young children and dogs should never be left unsupervised for the safety of both). ABOUT THE BREED: When it comes to the personality, the Plott Hounds are confident, courageous and bright dogs. In addition to it, their kind nature attracts the attention of the people. Hounds are one of the most popular breeds in the USA because they are loyal, loving, affectionate and patient, making great family dogs. Plott Hounds will defend their owners from perceived threats. And early socialization is imperative to prevent this trait from getting out of hand. This breed is also fantastic watchdogs. Plott Hounds are incredibly brave. They were bred to hunt massive animals such as bears, so they will not back down from any person or dog no matter the size. The Hounds are known to fit perfectly into family life with its sweet, peaceful and gentle nature. These dogs are well behaved and always friendly. They are not aggressive to people and other animals. They will happily welcome your guests with a tail wag. This breed is just as happy lounging around the house. They are extremely affectionate with all the family members and have an average activity level. The Plott Hound has a curious and playful temperament. Firstly, these dogs are loyal and smart. Moreover, they love to please their people and be along with them every-time possible. Overall, the Plott Hounds are people-oriented dogs that behave very well with their family members. Though the Plott Hounds are loyal and affectionate with their people, they are somewhat wary of strangers. And they are likely to bark at them at first. But when properly introduced, they get along very quickly. Lastly, the independent and stubborn nature of them play a huge role while training. CHILDREN: Yes, the Plott Hounds have a good reputation when it comes to dealing with kids. However, these dogs are better with older children who know how to treat dogs better. Bindi is a brindle beauty that weighs about 54 lbs and is 2.5 years old. Binda has not had any easy life. She was found back in December of 2023, abandoned in a baseball field in Houston with 2 other dogs. Somebody had locked all 3 dogs in the park, with no access to food, water or shelter for days. Animal control didn’t have room for them, and no rescues wanted to help the 3 dogs. A good Samaritan took all 3 dogs under her wing and put them in boarding, thinking she would find help for them, and never did. She reached out to us for help with the remaining 2 (1 she was able to rehome). The options now for the remaining 2 are to be surrendered to animal control, where it is more likely they will be euthanized. Bindi and Owen are the remaining 2 of 3. Bindi is more social than Owen, her friend is. She is very mellow but can be active and playful. She gets her zoomies and starts running all over the yard in pure excitement. Bindi gets quite bonded to her human. She would be a great dog for someone wanting a loyal companion, a shadow to follow them around. She loves to cuddle. One of her favorite activities is lying on the couch with her humans watching TV – and she WILL watch TV the whole time. She is very easily amused and entertained by what’s showing. She doesn’t have any favorite shows… yet. Bindi loves to go on walks and does great on her leash. She would make a fantastic partner to go on hikes or adventures with. She does wonderful with dogs who are not crazy hyper. Bindi is quite confident and would do well in a home with other dogs or alone, she doesn’t mind either way. She would be great with children. She is very food motivated and LOVES her treats. She will make sure you know if you’re late on a meal. Bindi is crate trained and does great on car rides. Bindi is spayed, heart worm negative, current on rabies vaccine, bordatella, and parvo distemper vaccine. She is also current on flea/tick and heart worm prevention, dewormed, microchipped and will get a clean bill of health from the veterinarian prior to transport. Bruce is a fabulous example of a forgiving and loving dog that was abandoned and found himself on the streets of a small town in Tennessee. He had nowhere to go and some kind people took him in to hold him safely while Critter Cavalry Rescue takes time to find him the best home ever. He is a Plott hound/Pit mix from what we can see in his markings and his stature. He is 2 years old and 65 pounds and he is one special dog that is so handsome and is truly a gentle giant! This boy has everything going for him with great house manners and housebroken as well. He crate trained and is living in a foster home in an apartment. He is a medium energy young man that gets along well with the other dog in his foster home. He loves play time outside, as well as being a snuggly couch potato. Bruce is learning to walk on leash and will need daily practice to stop pulling. He loves to ride in a car, likes carrots and ice cubes. When at home he loves to look out the window and will do that for hours. Recently he spent some time boarding and was a favorite with the staff and he demonstrated an ability to be very sweet and easy with some of the children of the staff members. The only NO about Bruce is that he is not fond of cats, so no feline siblings. He would probably do best with another gentle, playful dog of his same size. He would be fine being the only dog and always center of attention, too! Older children over 7 years of age might be best, but only because of his size. If you are looking for a best friend and/or family member to run, hike, play, explore, and then curl up for some couch time, Bruce is your guy! He is so beautiful and regal. He looks around like he is surveying his kingdom and hoping that all is well. You could really make his life a happy ending if you could consider adopting Bruce. Meet Thea!!!! This poor girl was found in Mississippi on a muddy side road by lots of brush and trees. She came into the shelter and we saw her. Not many people down south want brindle dogs. Yes, I know. It's crazy. So we promised to bring her north and find her a forever family. Thea is a confident and awesome pup. She adjusts to situations very easily. Going on hikes, walks, to the brewery, beach or anything, Thea is ready to go. She absolutely adores other dogs, kids and humans. Thea loves playing in the backyard, but also enjoys playing with toys. She has not learned the fetch process yet, but she will. Her favorite toys are squeakies. She would love to have these in her new home. Thea is a cuddle bug when she wants to hang out. She is not a spaz of a puppy. We put her as a med energy pup, which is perfect for a new family to adjust to. Thea still being a pup, she will need to continue with socializing, training and lots of attention. She cannot be left for long hours yet as well. For her age, we would say no more than 3-4 hours a day. Spay/Neuter All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.
