Story
“TUCKER” is a creamy white AKC Standard Poodle who was born June 23, 2015. He weighs a healthy 63 pounds and measures 25 inches from the floor to his withers. He comes to us from a Minnesota breeder who is retiring. Special thank you to this breeder as she was willing to wait until the tax season ended (April 15th) for me so we could start accepting some of her adult Poodles. She also wanted the best homes for her Poodles as they enter their “retirement” years. Tucker was scared out of his mind the first few days with us. But he quickly learned how to come, sit and has been a perfect gentleman (housetrained) in our home. Did I tell you that he is such a very smart and a very good boy?! Now Tucker has learned all about being a family dog. He will follow us around our home while being a part of our family and is always ready for treats, hugs and attention. He is allowed to run freely while we are home, yet when we are gone and at night, he is kenneled (like all our Poodles are) which he has no problem with. We’ve also taken him to various public events, including several softball games that our grandchildren were playing in. A bit worried at first (something new), but he quickly learned that softball was fun to watch! He then had a good time while enjoying all the noise, commotion, and people all around. He also received and enjoyed a lot of love, attention and hugs from many of the children at the games. At Tucker’s recent dental appointment, he had 25 of his rotting teeth removed. Ouch. It was a difficult and long surgery, but he did just fine and now he is feeling a LOT better. He is also now eating hard kibble, so no need for soften dog food. Our Vet also removed 3 small cysts from Tuckers back and side. They are NOT CANCER, but we all felt they needed to be removed. Yes, all his Vet work was very expensive. But Tucker is such an amazing loving, smart and good boy that we want the best for him. Everyone loves him, including the staff at our Vet’s office as they all wanted to take him home! Tucker is a quiet, soft, gentle, easy going big boy; a real cream puff. Going for his morning walk with Mike when he listens to the birds sing and meeting people is on the TOP of his list of fun things he loves to do. I would also like to stress that he is a very smart boy and has quickly figured out what to do and when. Example, rattle the Cheerios bag and he knows it’s time for breakfast as Mike sneaks Tucker a few Cheerios from the bag. Tucker has been around other dogs all his life, but he completely ingnores small dogs. He is just fine with other larger, easy-going female dogs, like our Standard Poodle Lola. As seen in the video, he enjoys playing “tag” with Lola in our back yard. Please keep in mind that he considers himself a member of a family and NOT a dog. *A SECURLY FENCED YARD WILL BE REQUIRED as he has been a kennel dog and not trained to relieve himself on a leash. *You must be physically able to handle a large Standard Poodle. *Preference will be given to a quiet family with past Standard Poodle experience. *Large, easy going, gentle dogs are fine. BUT PLEASE: *NO small dogs, puppies or cats. *NO aggressive or assertive dogs (they scare him and me). *NO young children. *Like most all rescue groups, we do NOT adopt our Poodles to homes more than 1 day’s drive (round trip) from our location here in central Minnesota. Yes. This is a very rare opportunity for the right family as we all know that a good Standard Poodle is hard to find. With the introduction of Doodles, sadly the Standard Poodles are becoming harder to find. Why Doodle when you can Poodle? He has been neutered, dental work is completed, he is up to date on vaccinations, worming, heartworm/lymes/ehrlich/anaplas (4DX) tested negative, placed on a heartworm preventative, and Home Again microchipped. As with all the other Standard Poodles we have adopted, Tucker’s adoption fee is 1 million, trillion, zillion dollars. However, for the right family his adoption fee is $700.00 which includes $48.00 for our 7.375% Minnesota state sales tax and helps pay for just some of his extensive vet work. Also included is his leash, collar, a bag of quality dog food, a 10-gallon dog food container, treats, a cute toy box, along with a new blanket, dog bed and lots of good information to help your Poodle adoption move forward on the right paw! If needed, his extra-large wire crate can also be included. Tucker is a very nice Standard Poodle boy who deserves a good and loving home for his “retirement”. Yes, we would keep him, but the greatest gift we give our Poodles is to let them go when the right family comes to adopt them. Story
Hello folks!  I’m Alfie and I’m one confident pup!  I hold my own with all the doggos in my house –there are two others my size and a big shepherd boy. And I like them all!  I also live with kids ages 5 – 14.  The oldest snuggles me and I love her so much!  At bedtime we cuddle in her bed, then I’m content to move to the floor or my own bed.  I like to be around my people, just hanging out in the house, getting lots of pets from everyone.  But I’m going to warn you…if the petting activities stop, I’m not afraid to give you a lil ‘tap tap’ with my paw to say “More please!”. When it’s time to go for walks, I’m a pretty good boy on my leash.  I don’t really react to small critters while we’re outside, so my foster mom says I don’t have a high prey drive.  Is that good? I’ve also heard her talk about this creature called a cat.  Do you know what they are?  I’ve never met one, but I think I might like them too.  Maybe they will snuggle with me! Ooooo….. A few other things to know about Alfie He loves to eat!  Very food motivated. Alfie has only been in a kennel once and seemed to do ok.  More kennel training to come. Alfie can be vocal.  He can be initially reactive to men (he warmed up to his foster dad after a few days) and when people approach the door.  However, he isn’t highly reactive just looking out the window. Alfie knows where to go to do his business.  As a matter of fact, if you go outside with him and say “go potty” he will!  However, housetraining is still a work in progress.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please an Adoption Request Form. This is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about The Rescue Crew adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our Adoption Process page on our official website.  All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.  The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Application prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. You can also access the necessary online adoption application here as well. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. ##2084016##

Story
Hi! My name is Shadow! From the Foster: Meet Shadow, the sweetest boy, who is truly scared of his own shadow. Shadow is going to need a truly special adopter willing to give him the time and space he needs to eventually trust people. Our best guess is that Shadow is likely a labradoodle - he was a breeder release from a puppy mill situation. Shadow is terrified of humans. We believe he was hit/abused and likely never had a single positive interaction with a human prior to being rescued. Shadow is scared of all people, but especially men, so for the last 6 weeks since he's been in rescue, his foster mom has been the sole person caring for him so he can slowly start to trust one person at a time. He has learned to trust her a little but he is still extremely skittish when she's around and often chooses to be in his kennel if she (or any person) enters the room. When taken out on a leash to potty, he is very skittish and constantly darts his vision back and forth between looking ahead and looking at his foster mom to see if she will make sudden movements. He startles at the sound of rustling leaves, loud cars, or even things like coughing or sneezing. The sound of dribbling basketballs from the neighbor kids or a lawn mower is especially frightening for him and he will try to pull to get away from the sound. Shadow is a huge flight risk. He has already escaped his foster home when he jumped a baby gate inside and followed his foster mom out the front door. It was a scary couple hours while she worked to follow him around the city and get him close enough to her in order to grab him. It will be important to double leash Shadow when outside, even if you have a fence, as he will not willingly come back inside and is very hard to catch, particularly until he trusts you more. Shadow's ideal home will have a 6 foot fence that will allow him room to explore away from humans without being something he can jump over. It's important to note that if you have a deck or any small space he can hide under or in outside, Shadow will find it and hide in it and not come out. Minimizing Shadow's risk of escaping will likely include the use of extra tall baby gates in your home. He can jump normal baby gates so we recently installed a 5 foot one. Eye contact is scary for Shadow. He prefers that you don't look directly at him when talking to him. It will be important for an adopter to follow Shadow's cues and let him come to you (which so far has only happened twice in 5 weeks for his foster mom). Both times involved other dogs in the home coming near her where he tried to mimic them. For this reason, it will be a necessity that there is another dog in the home who is friendly and confident as this will help model positive dog/human interaction for Shadow. Shadow does great with other dogs - in fact other dogs are the ONLY thing he isn't scared of. When humans are not around, we have seen him play with other dogs on our cameras and it's so fun to see him relax when people are not around. Shadow is potty trained, however he will sometimes pee or poop inside when frightened. This has happened from thunderstorms and people startling/scaring him. He will not willingly get in a vehicle and has to be picked up and put in the car. Because of his breed, he will need regular brushing and grooming and due to his anxiety, he would benefit from someone able to do this grooming in his own home. Shadow's kennel is his safe place and his adopter will need to get a similar safe place set up for him that he has access to go in and out of. Doing so will give him a place to retreat to when scared but will allow him to come out of it when he feels comfortable. Shadow takes anxiety meds twice per day. He does not willingly take these on his own so his foster mom hides them in cheese and has to physically open his mouth and put them far enough back that he'll swallow them. Shadow does not eat or drink anything if humans are around. Occasionally he will refuse to eat a meal at all, but will sometimes eat it a few hours later. He eats and drinks in his kennel and waits until people have left the room to do so. He does not eat treats and is not food motivated at all - likely because he's too scared to eat in the presence of people. Once Shadow is adopted, his world will need to be kept very small for quite some time. This would mean not bringing him anywhere except your yard and vet and also not having him meet a lot of people. It's unknown how he would do with kids, but it would be reasonable to have older, considerate children only in the home as small children and their sudden movements will likely scare him too much. Anything loud or sudden is very scary for him. Shadow is not currently the type of dog who is going to give you affection or any clear sign that he even likes you. Our hope is that he eventually will but his adopter should be prepared for this to take many, many months and even still it's not a guarantee. His progress has been 1 step forward, 3 steps back. He has had very small breakthroughs but they are incredibly rewarding to see. It is our hope that this bio of Shadow scares the majority of people off because while he's a cute doodle, it's important to know how absolutely broken Shadow is and how incredibly long his journey to a "normal dog is going to be. Shadow needs an adopter who is willing to put in very hard work without seeing much reward for a long time, while knowing that they are giving a very scared and abused dog an opportunity to know what real love looks like and that people can be trusted after all. To see videos of Shadow's journey so far, you can check out "The Joneses Foster on Instagram and Facebook.

Story
Hazel is a 7.5 year old poodle who spent the first 7 years of her life in a puppy mill situation. She is a very sweet girl, but is timid and slow to warm up to new people. She loves to be outside, to take naps and short walks, loves being pet when she’s comfortable with you. She does great on a leash, with grooming, at doggy daycare when needed, riding in the car, and even going to dog-friendly stores. She takes treats so gentle, even from our 2 year old! Hazel’s biggest challenge is her anxiety - she does not like to be left alone indoors (she does fine alone outside). She would do best in a home with a doggy door where she can control when she goes outside/inside. And she would do great in a home with another dog.

Good with dogs,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hey there, I'm Phillip, your potential new best buddy! Let me tell you a little about myself. At home, I'm all about love and cuddles. I'm sweet, eager to please, and always up for some quality couch time while we watch TV together. I might startle easily at sudden noises, but I'm getting better at adjusting to new sounds and situations. And guess what? I'm a total foodie! Treats are my jam, especially if you're tossing them for me to chase. Now, when it comes to outdoor adventures, I'm slowly but surely gaining confidence. Short walks around the neighborhood are becoming more enjoyable, and I'm getting the hang of this whole leash thing. While I may bark at strangers passing by, I promise I'm just trying to protect my home turf! I do require a fenced yard in my forever home, I have a lot of energy and a yard would be perfect for me to have the freedom to do zoomies and sniff all the wonderful outside things. I have been good with dogs both big and small that I have encountered. If there is another dog in my forever home, a calm and low-energy companion would be best.  What else can I say about myself? Well, I'm a playful guy who loves chasing toys and racing around the yard. And did I mention I'm smart? I'm eager to learn new tricks and skills, so if you're up for some training sessions, count me in! We are learning to play fetch … well I’m learning, my people know how already. I love to chase toys, but sometimes act like a clown and forget to bring them back. Some of my other favorite things are dog puzzles - I am a very smart boy and love activities that keep my mind busy! Overall, I'm just a charming, loving, and funny fella who's on the lookout for his perfect match. If you're seeking a loyal companion who's equal parts cuddly and playful, then look no further—I'm your guy! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Good with cats,
Story
I love to go for walks, car rides, and play in a fenced yard with my foster mom and a couple of the resident dogs. I am kennel and potty trained. I am a good boy. I get along with cats. I love to chase after birds, bunnies, and squirrels on walks and need someone who can handle those unexpected times I do decide to chase after critters. I also chase after critters in my yard so a fenced yard would be ideal for me. I've been doing great at adoption events with meeting new people and getting pets and scratches from them. I do jump up on people and my foster mom is trying to teach me not do that, but I love giving hugs too. I also like to play with other dogs and I can get overly excited so playtime should be monitored. I had a rough start in life as a stray from Mexico, where I had to fend for myself and learn to assert my space and find food. This has made me quite resilient and independent. I am looking for an experienced adopter who will continue to work with me on training, socializing, and adjusting to new humans and doing slow introductions with dogs in a positive manner/environment. Just a couple things to be aware of: 1) I don't like going to the Vet or the groomer. I do need regular grooming and I will likely require sedation, however, my foster mom thinks that if I can do several meet and greets with my groomer then I won't mind being groomed because then that person will no longer be a stranger to me. I am a really good boy when my foster mom grooms me. She has shampooed me, trimmed my nails, taken out my neuter sutures, and trimmed my facial hair. 2) I can be possessive and resource guard toys and food so I should not be given toys with other dogs around. 3) I do have allergies and have been taking diphenhydramine. This is helping me a lot. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an application at www.campcompanion.org. My adoption fee is $300 plus tax.
