Story
Otra is a gentle giant. Dog-friendly with dogs of all sizes. People-friendly, but may be too much for little kids. Super handsome, Otra, is an Akita mix and is the goofiest most well natured boy you’ll meet! He weighs around 95 pounds and is such a gorgeous fluffy boy.    Otra is great on leash, is crate trained, and is house trained. Otra lovessss other dogs, sometimes too much for their liking. He loves chasing his doggy friends' tails, which can sometimes annoy them. When he gets corrected, he gets so sad. He is essentially a 90lbs puppy. His ideal home would be one where he has a doggy friend to play with and preferably a fenced in yard.    Otra is a very loving boy. He is very playful and is mouthy during his playtime. He will give you his paw to trick you into putting your hand within reach so he can chew on it. It is adorable and not malicious in any way, but his future family must know about this and be okay with it!    Otra has a degenerative eye condition and will continue to lose his vision over time. Right now his vision is pretty good, but sudden movements do spook him, and he can be a little bit head shy. Due to his vision loss and mouthiness, Otra is looking for a home without small children.       (DOB 8/29/2019) As part of Otra’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.  If you have questions about this sweet boy, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Otra, you can fill in an online application by going to our website and clicking the" Adopt"  button on his profile at:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##1860067##

Story
Maya is a 8 1/2 years old American Akita, born in Germany and has all certificates, all veterinary visits are up to date. She is a lovely dog but very protective for house and family, she doesn’t like other dogs around her and barks when visitors enter her territory. Very recent she had caused an incident with our son and injured him in the face (she didn’t bite but warned him). She also attacked twice our second dog, a male Terrier (meanwhile passed away due to age) She loves to play and enjoys her big backyard, she likes colder places and not being outside in the summer heat. She is used to dry food, sometimes likes a treat or melon. We love her very much but since this incident the risk to have her free in the house together with our son is to big. She can’t be locked up the whole day. We are searching a home for her without other dogs, preferably no kids and a lot of attention.

Story
Cookie is a really timid and shy dog who’s and 11 months old. I got her last year in July 1st and been keeping her ever since. My cousin was going to adopt her so he asked me to watch Cookie for him since he was in the military and his wife was busy working. It was until December or January that he decided he didn’t want Cookie anymore and wanted to adopt a pit bull instead. He didn’t tell us and I’ve just been watching Cookie. Cookie is protective and can sense if your energy is bad or good. She is sassy and will side eye you from time to time. Once she gets used to you, she will adore you. She loves eating my food, she snatched my food out of my hand many times before. I’m looking for an owner who will love her the same way I love her. Who will take care of her and treat her well. Someone who’s experienced with raising dogs that are a bit tougher to raise than most dogs. I’m in a desperate situation and struggling right now, I just want Cookie to live well.

Story
Suzy is a funny, smart, and playful pooch who is on the hunt for a human companion to match her happiness and provide lots of love. She came in as a stray on June 19, 2024 and owners were located however owner could not reclaim her so she’s now awaiting her adoption day. With her signature sweetheart smile, she's won the hearts of many, but hasn't quite found the one to call her own. Suzy is an affectionate girlie who is around 1 year 6 months old and current on shots, and excited to meet her new person or family. While she has plenty of energy for playtime and walks, she also knows how to unwind and take it easy after a long day of adventures. She is the ideal companion for someone looking for a well-rounded, fun loving, and sweet four-legged friend. If you're interested in meeting this lovable lady, please come by the shelter today for a meet and greet to see if Suzy is a good fit for your family? If you have another dog and are interested in meeting another potential new furry member please bring him or her to the shelter and meet on neutral ground before adopting. No need to shuffle the animals around any more than necessary. Please know that 1 mosquito bite can create heart worms and they can be fatal if not treated. It is VERY important to keep your pets healthy and protected by keeping them on a once a month heart worm and flea/tick prevention. These animals are counting on you as their owner to provide them with lots a love and the proper health care so PLEASE make sure you are aware and prepared before adopting. Owning a pet is an extra expense and responsibility but is so worth every minute and penny you invest in them. They will add lots of joy and unconditional love if given a fair chance. The shelter is open Mon.-Fri. 10-1, 2-5, Sat. 10-4. Adopt a homeless pet and save a life. If you can not adopt right now come out and volunteer and make a difference in the lives of these animals while they await their FOREVER home. In order to adopt any of our "bully breeds" there is special paper work that will need to be collected and approved prior to the adoption. We love all of our dogs and want to make sure to place our "bully babies" in homes best suited for them.
