See my video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/I2685p-Y1qc This dog is part of our fee waived adoption event Aug 20-24. Adopt her with no adoption fee - the first step is to come visit! This dog has chronic allergies and will need an adopter with a great relationship with a veterinarian. Her monthly medication costs about $100/month to keep her comfortable and she will need several extra vet visits per year for flare ups, those will likely cost several hundred dollars per visit. We are not able to take online applications this week. **Blue does not like other dogs and needs to be the only dog in your home! She does not want to make dog friends! Blue is also on a lifelong medication for skin allergies. ** Blue is a super smart girl who is totally house trained and knows many commands. She is a cuddly dog but not needy. She plays but isn't crazy. Are you looking for a dog to just chill on the couch with? A dog that doesn't require a lot of exercise other than a fun a short romp in the yard? Blue is a sweet gal looking for a home where she can roll in the yard and cuddle up with her people. She had lived in the same home her whole life, so has been sad at Dakin. She is in a foster home and after a couple days, she really has blossomed into a fun dog that is easy to love and easy to live with. Blue has never lived with kids or cats so we don't know how she will do with them. This pet is part of our Lonely Hearts club. Please click on the pink words to learn more If you're ready to adopt within the next 24-48 hours and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30p-3:00p. For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt! **OR** Click on the pink "Adopt me" button to submit an adoption inquiry. Watch your email for a response from us! Adopting through this process will take several days and highly desirable pets are likely to no longer be available. PLEASE NOTE: Adoption inquiries are not holds or reservations. Pets are adopted by the first person we talk with who is a good match for the pet's needs. Multiple inquiries are accepted for each pet. All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.

Story
Govida came to TJO as a very nervous stray, but once she settled in and became more comfortable, she proved just how much energy she had! She can still be nervous when meeting new people, but given time she can warm up quick. She loves to jump, and can reach some pretty impressive heights, so a tall fence is a must for anyone looking to meet her! OTHER PETS:Godiva is reactive with other dogs--lunging and snapping while trying to get closer to other dogs that she sees--and would do best as an only pet. NO CATS [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE:Godiva would do best with someone who has experience handling large and reactive dogs with positive reinforcement, as she does pull strongly on the leash and can get overexcited. [Experienced]KIDS: Because Godiva is a strong dog that doesn't quite understand boundaries yet, she would do best in a home without any kids. She's jumpy and can get overexcited easily, and she's uncomfortable with some types of handling, so an adult with experience and confidence in handling would be best for her. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL:Godiva is a lot of dog with a lot of energy. In a home environment, she would do best with daily walks and various forms of mental enrichment to keep her mind and body busy. [Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE:[Routine]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED:While Godiva does seem to know `sit` and `paw,` she is still at the beginning of her positive training journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer both patience and confidence while she adjusts. Positive reinforcement training will help Godiva not only learn her basic cues but also help her to feel more comfortable and confident in herself! It will provide a good opportunity for her to bond with her new owner as well! [Intense]GROOMING:[Minimal]August 19, 2024, 2:52 pm

Story
OTHER PETS: Sadie is eager to meet other dogs and is relaxed while she is around them, she would likely get along with other dogs of a similar temperament and size - to ensure a good match Sadie should meet any dogs she would be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)] NO SMALL DOGS OR CATSOWNER EXPERIENCE: Sadie will need support from her new owner as she settles in, she typically is not overstimulated but does become so at times, and someone who has not dealt with an overstimulated dog could be overwhelmed by the difference in behavior. Someone who will be a calm anchor to help Sadie recenter herself with while overstimulated would be her best fit. [Some Experience] KIDS: Sadie is a friendly girl who also tends to jump and get mouthy when excited. High pitched noises, flailing hands, and sudden movements can easily excite dogs or elevate already excited dogs even higher - a teen who has experience with dogs or a teen able to understand why such actions need to be avoided around Sadie would be her best fit. [13+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Sadie pulls a little but typically does well on leash and enjoys her walks, ensuring she gets a chance to explore her neighborhood daily would be a perfect way to make sure Sadie gets the physical and mental stimulation she needs. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Sadie bond with her new owner as well as ensuring she knows her basic cues. Sadie is a sweet girl who sometimes becomes overstimulated and snappy in the kennel, it is important to remember that redirection to a positive behavior and reward for said positive behavior will be key to helping Sadie handle overstimulation - but her new owner will also be responsible for learning what leads to overstimulation as well as finding creative ways to eliminate/avoid the causes. Story
Do you have what it takes to give Pocket his best life? Pocket needs a hero, he can be in public around other dogs as he is leash trained and easily distracted with toys - Pocket's owner will need to be on point to keep Pocket safe at all times while in public, or someone who will be ok with Pocket staying at home and chilling while they go on adventures. OTHER PETS: Pocket was intense with another male dog, avoidant and uncomfortable with a female dog. He was easily distracted with a toy and happily refocused his attention. Pocket will do best as an only pet. [Should Be Only Pet]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Pocket is going to need someone to advocate for him to ensure that others respect his space while out in public - his best fit would be with an person who will ensure that he is not put in a position where he feels he has to defend himself. [Some Experience]KIDS: Pocket is indiscriminately mouthy while playing; while not malicious he could unintentionally injure someone, especially as he does become highly aroused while playing. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Pocket has a good amount of energy, this can be a challenge for brachycephalic breeds because of the risk of overheating that goes hand in hand with the breathing difficulties they have. He enjoys walks, but will need to be monitored while walking on wamer days to ensure he does not overheat. Pocket does enjoy play, he becomes highly aroused while playing but does settle somewhat; he also self soothes after play which helps him calm further. He can be distracted from toys with other toys and while he will destroy blankets and stuffies, he does not eat the fluffy filling. Pocket would do best with a mix of walks and play sessions that will keep him active but won't let him get overheated or overstimulated. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Brachyceplalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned, neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Pocket ages gracefully. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Pocket bond with his new owner, as well as perfect his basic cues. [Minimal]{Behavior modification (overseen by licensed, positive professional) could be helpful in increasing Pocket's ability to safely be in the company of other dogs - it is something that will be a sizeable investment of time and patience and should never be forced.}GROOMING: [Minimal]August 19, 2024, 2:52 pm

Story
Marley came to TJO quite itchy and nervous, but opened up quickly to staff and soon enjoyed all the butt scratches she could handle. While Marley spent most of her life with another companion dog, her bestie recently kicked the crap out of cancer but did not survive the battle herself. OTHER PETS: Marley was not interested in meeting other dogs, and displayed dominant behavior during introduction; Marley would do best as an only dog. [Should Be Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Marley is going to need time, compassion, and understanding while she settles in - it may take longer than usual for her to begin to settle in and open up. Someone with experience would be able to support Marley with a minimal learning curve. [Some Experience] KIDS: Marley can be intense with her food and takes time to warm up to people; she needs to live with humans who will not mess with her food bowls and understand she may take time to become affectionate with them - Marley is nervous around strangers and will growl at them. [15+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Marley walks well on a leash and enjoys spending time outside, she enjoys fetch and other toy involved play with humans and does not get overly excited. Marley would do best with daily walks and some quality playtime. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Marley arrived with some very itchy, scabby, skin. She has been recieving vet care and medicated baths during her stay and her skin condition has improved but she still has a bit to go to get back to 100%. It is possible that with continued medication, baths, and a safe home environment her skin condition will resolve completely and will not reoccur. It is also possible however, that this is a chronic condition that will need some form of management for the remainder of Marley's life. A good relationship with a vet will ensure that Marley ages gracefully. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Marley bond with her new owner as well as ensuring she has a mastery of her basic commands and behavorial expectations.
