Story
Riley joined our family when she was found being abandoned on the side of the road. She has been a loved member of our family for years. It is with a heavy heart that we are looking to re-home her as we have recently welcomed a baby into our family and we can no longer provide Riley with the care and time that she needs. Riley is a sweet dog who would do best in a single-pet household with older children who are familiar with dogs as she has high energy and loves to play. Riley loves her people and shows her affection by cuddling and laying belly up for belly rubs as often as possible. Riley would be a great companion for a family who has a fenced in yard where she can run and enjoy time playing with her humans. We love Riley and would love to see her go to a loving home!

Story
This super handsome set of ears with a little dog attached is Will! Sweet Willie is a ~three year old pup who absolutely loves getting affection from his people, loves his walks and treats, and loves to chomp on your leftover veggie scraps from dinner. Will was found running loose with no collar or chip, and was taken in by his current foster dad in Drexel Hill, PA (near Philly). Will is perfectly healthy and up-to-date on all of his shots and preventatives, and is of course also neutered. I'm looking for a new home for my sweet boy because Will isn't good with cats--and I have three of them! Will is really just the happiest, sweetest boy, and deserves the best possible home. Will currently lives with and gets along great with my resident dog, and can likely get along with other dogs given proper introductions (but no dog parks!). Will is crate trained, knows a few commands, and is super smart! For more pictures, check out: https://www.instagram.com/adopt.willie.in.philly

Story
MEET HANK! This polite older gentleman was found by animal control tied up to a post in an abandoned shopping center. He was timestamped for euthanasia due to the shelter being so full but thankfully, he caught the eye of a City of Elderly Love foster family and is now ready to find the perfect home! Not much is known about Hank’s past, aside from the fact that he was once an owned pet, but his found condition indicates he was likely on his own for a while. Hank has received a full medical workup which revealed an old spinal injury that causes weakness in his hind legs. Coupled with a bit of arthritis, Hank wears booties on his back paws to stop from scraping when walking on concrete and gets an abundance of compliments on his fashion choices every time he goes out! Despite his hardships, Hank has remained a polite and happy dog, eager to meet every person and dog he comes in contact with, especially now that he has put on some weight and is feeling much better! He also doesn’t let his mobility issues stop him as he still loves to walk, run and play – just a bit slower than some of the other dogs. The only real limitation he has is the inability (or lack of desire) to walk up or down more than 3-4 stairs or participate in rough and tumble play. Hank’s favorite thing to do is roam around slowly and endlessly, taking in his surroundings through sight and smell as he is at least partially deaf. He loves to gallop around a grassy field and say hello to any dog who might come within 20 feet of him. When inside, Hank mostly keeps to himself, taking frequent snoozes in his dog bed and occasionally playing with his favorite stuffed toy. His favorite games -- when he wants to play -- are tug-of-war and indoor fetch. He walks very well on a leash, and rarely ever barks, making him the perfect, quiet companion. Hank would do best in a home with continuous access to a yard big enough to require routine perimeter checks to ensure it’s all still there, and perhaps a couple of like-minded companions with whom to form a pack. He is not a constant house dog and would do best with an active family. Hank will also require routine vet checkups and lab testing as his care team have identified organ abnormalities that are not currently concerning and want them to stay that way! Hank is house trained, crate trained, neutered and microchipped and currently cohabitates with the resident cat. He is the true definition of resilience, and now just needs his forever home to complete his comeback journey! Hank is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! Interested in adopting him? Story
**SPECIAL FOSTER OR ADOPTIVE FAMILY NEEDED FOR SPECIAL DOG!** Nellie joined us from a local shelter after she was seized by Humane Law Enforcement officers for animal cruelty and neglect; Nellie was completely emaciated. Since she joined us in February, her current foster mom has worked hard to get her healthy and recover from her past. Now Nellie's current foster needs to focus on her own serious health issues, which means Nellie needs a new place to land! Nellie will require an understanding foster home where her world can remain small. Please read her full bio and let us know if you think you could be Nellie's next hero! MEET NELLIE! Nellie is an 8-10 year old pittie who was seized for cruelty and neglect by Philly's Humane Law Enforcement team. Nellie weighed only 30 lbs. at the time though based on her frame, she should have been closer to 60. Nellie hitched a ride to City of Elderly Love and has been doing great with her recovery since! She's now ready to lay down some roots in a low-key home with a family who can help Nellie's world remain small due to her difficult past. Nellie has the most unique face with wrinkles galore, soulful golden eyes, and pouty lips. She also has some muscle loss in her head but now that she is at a healthy weight, its much less noticeable. Nellie is currently living with another dog but really prefers her own space. She tolerates him, but can get overstimulated around him easily and isn't afraid to tell him to beat it. Because of this, we think she'd be happiest (and safest) as an only-pet. Nellie also takes some time to warm up to new people and can be anxious in new settings (like an unfamiliar car ride) and tends to bark and whine when she's not comfortable. That said, she has also made strides with her anxiety and loves making friends when they meet her at her level; offering her treats (she's very food motivated), taking her for a walk, playing tug (once she's feeling more comfortable).  We really don't know anything about Nellie's past before entering the shelter but it's safe to assume that she likely wasn't exposed to much outside of the house or yard so her new life as a beloved family dog can be a bit overwhelming for her. She would prefer a quieter home and a simple life where she isn't forced to interact with a lot of new animals or people. She is making progress all the time. So while the first few weeks of welcoming Nellie home will be a bit of an adjustment but once settled Nellie will be a sweet, easy going girl and your very best friend. Nellie has been fully vetted since joining the rescue and is in great shape considering her past. Nellie is available for foster or adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in meeting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
