Story
The word everyone uses to describe Alma when they first meet here is always the same: sweet. Pittie-mix Alma was a throw-away mama that has come back from the brink to be a 60-pound healthy, smart, loving girl. She is a low energy queen who would love to hang out with her humans all day. She loves naps, snacks, walks, cuddles, sitting in the sun, her pajamas, and practicing her exercises for peanut butter. While she can be motivated by food, she is also motivated by hugs and positive reinforcement. Alma has never met a human she doesn’t love, including children, and can live with other dogs with a slow intro (she has previously lived with a pittie and now lives with a pug), but would happily be an only dog. She would like to make friends with all the dogs and cats she sees but her enthusiasm is too much for others to handle, so we are working on that. Because of Alma’s past, her back legs didn’t work so well, so we’ve been doing physical therapy for a few months and she is making incredible and quick progress. She’s very proud of herself. ❤️ Alma is crate trained (up to 8 hours), walks well on a leash, knows some basic commands and has solid recall, and has nice manners (doesn’t beg or whine for food). She has been living in the city without issue, and would also enjoy a home with a yard. We expect that whoever adopts Alma would need to maintain some of her skincare routine (regular cleaning of her paws, back, and ears), may need to continue some small physical therapy exercises, give her a daily allergy pill, and continue to reinforce her reactivity training. Alma is truly a sweet, earnest, loving girl and whoever adopts her will be so lucky to have this sweet little squishy cuddle bug in their life. Feel free to follow her journey on Instagram @phbtalma

Story
Fresca is a 6 month old female pup with tons of potential. She is smart and has learned sit, paw, settle, wait, go to crate, heal, "OK" (release), leave it and has started learning place, drop it, and stay. She is crate trained and house trained. She is good with dogs and people of all ages but is verrrrry excited around smaller animals like cats and birds. She is a wiggle worm (literally whole body wiggles) and very playful. She has a forward playstyle but takes corrections well and adjusts to the other dog's style. She loves walks and playing fetch. She would do fine in just about any household. All Philly Bully puppies under 8 months must go to a home within 2 hours of Philadelphia. Philly Bully Team will prioritize homes with another young and playful dog, but we will also adopt to homes that sign their puppies up for training classes prior to adoption. You can read more about our puppy adoption policies on our website.

Story
Meet Cobra! He is 3-4 years old, fuzzy pitty mix. Cobra is medium energy, good on the leash, friendly with other dogs, crate trained, house trained, and super sweet! Cobra came from a cruelty situation down in SC, so he has some stranger danger, especially with men. However once he gets to know you, he is completely tolerant of all handling, snuggling, does not resource guard, and is just like any other dog! Cobra has a high prey drive so he isn’t a great fit for homes with cats or small animals. Cobra loves to play fetch and tug of war, his play style can be a little rough so he would do better with adults or kids 13+! Cobra loves having the ability to run off leash, or on a long lead, so he’d love a home with some outdoor space, but it’s not a necessity. Cobra also loves car rides and going on errand runs. Adopt Cobra!!

Story
This sweet mama was found as a stray, and it’s clear she has a heart as big as her smile. Colette likely had a litter of puppies before finding herself at ACCT, where she quickly became a staff favorite thanks to her loving personality. Colette is a total sweetheart who will melt your heart with her soulful eyes and affectionate nature. She loves to snuggle up for quality cuddle time, gazing lovingly into your eyes as if to say, “You’re my favorite human.” In her foster home, Colette is thriving! She’s housetrained, crate trained, and shares her space with two foster siblings, This girl also has a zest for adventure: she’s a pro at walks, enjoys car rides, and loves nothing more than sitting by the window to watch the world go by. Colette is ready to find her forever family and fill their home with joy, loyalty, and plenty of kisses. If you’re looking for a sweet, friendly, and affectionate companion, Colette is your girl! Colette is scheduled for a spay in early February and can go home after her recovery.

Story
Lydia is just under 1 year old pit mix girl. She’s medium sized, about 50 pounds. Lydia is medium energy and dog friendly. She loves playing with the 4 other dogs in her foster home, but is also content to just sit and chew on a bone or toy. Her energy is in quick bursts and then she’s ready to sleep for a while. She love to snuggle next to her people for a nap. Lydia has done great with the 10 year old human child in her foster home. Lydia is crate and house trained. She sleeps in her crate at night with no issues. Lydia’s a goofy little girl who loves to eat! She’s pleasant on walks and after some initial excitement of getting out to walk she of kind of just meanders along. She also enjoys frequent walk breaks to lay in the grass and eat pinecones, sticks, and leaves. Lydia would do well in a variety of households and learns boundaries and manners quickly. She’s a smart girl who really just wants to be loved on and have a soft place to nap.

Story
Hi I’m Fruitcake! And I love warm hugs! And just about everything else in life too! I’m 8 months old and Philly Bully Team got me from a shelter in SC, I pretty much grew up there and spent majority of my life in the shelter, so I’m still learning all there is to know about this great big world and all the things that I get to enjoy! So far my favorite things have been doggy friends, peanut butter, tennis balls (wow I LOVE those things!) babies, and hugs. I love giving hugs! My foster home has a 5 month old and a 1 year old and I am always on baby duty. I love to supervise diaper changes and I really love to wait by the high chair for some snacks from the baby. My foster mom always tells people I have too much love for one dog, and it comes out when I meet new people and dogs. I’m so friendly but I get sooo excited to give people hugs that I’m a jumpy guy! We’re working hard on it. I don’t have a mean bone in my body, just too much love to contain. I also love other dogs! I love to chase and wrestle and share my toys! But I also get a little humpy when I first meet a dog (again, I know, too much love to give) so we’re working on that too. I’d love a home with another dog, or no dogs too! If I have a doggy sibling, they have to be okay with my cool dance moves while we get to know each other and then we’ll be the best of friends. The vet said I’m an amazing guy! I am super healthy, and super friendly, and with a little bit of that yummy spray cheese they could do anything they wanted to me and I didn’t mind! I’ll do just about anything for some spray cheese. I don’t love when foster mommy cuts my nails, so we are practicing that one. I do really well for one paw at a time and then I need to get the heck out of that situation and try again later. I’m fully crate trained and I haven’t had a single potty accident since coming to my forever home! Sometimes in my crate, my dog beds do this weird thing where they just kind of explode! I have no idea how that could be happening, definitely wasn’t me, but my foster mommy just uses comfy blankets and mats instead of the puffy beds for me and my weird exploding crate that definitely isn’t me shredding the beds. Definitely not.

Story
Espiga is a charming, super cute and friendly boy who adores attention and loves saying hello to other dogs! With his playful spirit, Espiga is happiest when he’s near his humans, enjoying walks, playtime, or simply being by your side. One of Espiga’s favorite things in the world is playing with rope toys—though he does have a tendency to try and rip them apart, so a little supervision is needed. He’s still young at heart and would benefit from some additional training, especially with crate training, which he’s still working on. Espiga doesn’t like being left alone and would likely thrive in a home with another dog to keep him company. Though he’s not a fan of water, Espiga’s loyalty shines through—he even hopped on a paddleboard just to stay close to his foster! He’s a well-behaved boy for the most part but will need continued guidance as he matures. He’s so happy to be out of the shelter and is ready to find his perfect forever family. Espiga is a playful, puppy-like pit bull mix who brings joy to every room he enters. While his foster family believes he may be barely a year old based on his energy and behavior, the veterinarian estimates his age to be closer to four years. As we don’t have Espiga's full history, we’re working with the vet’s assessment, and his adoption records will reflect an age of four years. Regardless of his exact age, Espiga has the heart and spirit of a young pup—ready for fun, adventure, and lots of love in his forever home! If you’re looking for a friendly, playful companion who will be by your side through thick and thin, Espiga might just be the perfect fit for you. He deserves a loving home where he can thrive, play, and feel secure. Story
Meet Mila: A Sweetheart Ready to Be Your Forever Friend Mila is a bundle of love packed into a petite, 45-pound pittie mix body. At around six years old, Mila is past the puppy stage but still full of life and charm. This girl’s ideal day? Belly rubs, a tasty cheese treat (her absolute favorite!), and some quality time with her people on the couch—she’s a certified snuggle expert. Mila greets everyone she meets with wiggles and kisses, eager to share her affection with the world. Found alone in an abandoned house, Mila’s past remains a mystery, but her heart is wide open to the future. She’s well-mannered in the home, is house trained, and has already learned a few fun tricks like “sit” and “paw”—she’s eager to please, especially when treats are involved! Mila also walks well on a leash and loves the outdoors. We’re even working on her fetch game; she’s excited to chase the ball and bring it back like a pro. We recommend a home with no other pets as this cuddle queen is happiest as your one and only fur companion, where she can soak up all the love and attention. She’s comfortable in her crate when needed and is calm and trustworthy when left out on her own. And Mila’s not one to fuss—she’s a total trooper for bath time, even though she'd probably rather be back by your side for cuddles. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’ll be your couch buddy and walking partner, Mila is the perfect match. She’s ready to fill your home with wiggles, kisses, and endless love. She is being fostered in Newton, New Jersey, but once you are approved to adopt with Familiar Hearts, a meeting can most likely be coordinated at a half way point. To meet her, fill out our Adoption Application at https://www.familiarhearts.org/adoption-process

Story
Meet Maria, a spirited 3-year-old bundle of love who’s eager to find her forever home! This bright and bubbly pup thrives on affection, treats, and the joy of being around people. Maria has a heart full of enthusiasm, but she’s still learning to channel her excitement into calm and focused behavior. With her natural intelligence and deep love for snacks, she’s already making strides in her training and would thrive with a family dedicated to continuing her positive reinforcement journey. Maria is learning impulse control and leash manners, thanks to her love of treats and her eagerness to please. She responds beautifully to clear communication and has been mastering commands like "Touch," which helps redirect her focus, and “Yes!” as a positive marker for good behavior. Her training sessions are a testament to her potential; she takes treats gently and wags her way through life with a wiggly, happy demeanor. She has had some nice meets with other dogs and might be what is considered "dog selective." This is another area a good trainer can certainly help Maria's new family navigate. Maria's perfect day would include quality time with her people, treats for her efforts, and some calm moments to sit and take in the world—perhaps at a park, where she’s practicing her ability to relax around exciting sights and sounds. With consistency and patience, Maria is sure to blossom into the well-mannered companion she’s destined to be. Maria’s future family will need plenty of treats, a little time for training, and a lot of love to help her become her best self. In return, she’ll fill your days with wiggles, smiles, and the unwavering loyalty of a dog who knows she’s home. Are you ready to welcome this exuberant girl into your life? 🐾 Take your first step to meeting her by filling out our adoption application at https://www.familiarhearts.org/adoption-application Photo credits: Nayana Photography

Congratulations! Today is your lucky day! You get to read about Katie, our 6-year old "kuddly kouch potato". Is your happy place on the couch watching Netflix with some friends? If so, then Katie is your girl. While she loves a quick walk here and there, Katie hasn't found a couch cushion she doesn't love. She also won't judge you for hitting play on that next episode... Katie loves people! To her, everyone is a friend who she MUST show her plushie toys to! She gets a little talkie when she meets new dogs but can easily be re-directed. Cats are just way too fun to chase, so they won't be the best fit. But she comes fully acclimated to a house, she's crate, potty and leash-trained. If you want a dog who's goofy, snuggly, friendly, will show you what unconditional love is while still making you belly laugh daily, please inquire about Katie!
