Story
Vega is a 8 month old Cattle Dog mix. She is spayed, house trained, and up to date on vaccinations. Vega gets along with some dogs and cats. She isn’t great with young children but is fine with older children and adults. Vega is a highly intelligent, high energy, high drive dog. She is very focused, food motivated and easy to train. She really needs something to herd and to protect. She would thrive with chickens, goats, cows or literally anything to keep track of. She loves playing chase, tug, and going after the flirt pole, but she’s not very competitive and usually surrenders to her sister. She’s great at the obstacle course in our back yard. She knows basic obedience and more. Has an excellent recall and loves to bite at my heels while I race her on my bike. She leads the way on our creek walks and always finds the most efficient route around an obstacle. She’s got hops. She would do well with a runner or a hiker who stays off the beaten path.

Story
Meet Otis, the cattle dog mix! Otis is a senior guy (9 years old) who has a heart of gold. He has lived in a home with a family – including 5 and 7 year old children and did well. Otis may enjoy a mellow canine companion, life as the only pup OR in a home with his “sister” Hazel. Otis is looking for a feline free home. He enjoys going for walks and sunbathing in a quiet environment. Having indoor/outdoor access (such as through a doggy door) is Otis’ ideal housing set up. As an older dog, Otis will require more frequent vet visits to ensure he stays in tip top shape. Our veterinary staff have observed he has a stiff walk and occasional limp that could be impacted by arthritis and/or his weight. Adopters are recommended to consult with their veterinarian on a weight loss program to help Otis stay more comfortable and active in the years to come. Otis` adoption has been sponsored by a generous donor. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Meet Lucas – one of the more interesting mixes we have up for adoption: an Australian cattle dog mixed with a miniature poodle! Lucas is a sensitive soul that needs a guardian who will advocate for him and help him feel comfortable in the world around him. His favorite things to do are playing fetch, getting belly rubs from known people and being tucked into bed. Lucas would thrive as the only pet in his next home. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Story
Rodeo is a PERFECT 7 month old Australian cattle dog/border collie mix! He is estimated to be full grown about 45lbs. He is done with all his shots and ready for his forever family! He is well socialized with other dogs and animals, and he is crate trained, sleeps through the night, and doing well with housebreaking! He is friendly with all people and very food motivated too, so will be very easy to train. He is very engaging and smart, and would make a nice Rally and Nosework, or even service dog!  He will make someone a great adventure buddy, companion.  Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc February 26, 2025, 4:43 pm

Story
Sylvie is a 2-year-old Cattledog with a heart of gold and a shy but loving nature. This sweet girl may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once she bonds with you, she’s a loyal and affectionate companion. She particularly adores her foster mom and has a special place in her heart for other dogs—she loves playing with them and would thrive in a home with a confident canine sibling. Sylvie has shown herself to be a gentle and friendly pup, even with the resident cat, and she gets along well with other animals. She’s also crate-trained and is making great strides with her house training, although she will benefit from a little more time and patience in her new home. Though Sylvie is still building her confidence, she's already learned the basics like “come” and “sit,” and she’s making wonderful progress with leash walking. With continued practice and a patient, understanding owner, she will only get better at both! This intelligent and sweet Cattledog is ready for a family who can offer her the time, patience, and companionship she needs. Sylvie would do best in a home with another dog to help her feel secure and show her the ropes. If you’re looking for a quiet but playful dog to join your family, Sylvie might just be the perfect match!
