Story
We did Brownie's DNA! He's about half cattle dog and the next biggest result was Boxer but he is mixed with many other breeds. Brownie is a sweet, energetic and spunky guy who had a rough start in life. He loves affection and is a good boy. He was found as a stray in Bonne Terre and got picked up by animal control, which is just a shed. We believe Brownie would do best in a more quiet home with older or no kids and an active owner that would spoil him and give him the life he deserves. Brownie will need a fence as he has a high prey drive and loves to chase the yard critters. If there are other dogs in the home they should be about his size or bigger. He loves to play with the other dogs. He has been introduced to the dog savvy catin the house and they get along okay.We only adopt to people in the St. Louis METRO area. Please see our Adoption Policies here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TZjrOP29mqXvcHEC3zPaKXXnS80LaVGMA45Lc0-Z2MI/edit?usp=sharingInformation about the rescue and adoption process can also be found at www.stlpetrescue.com along with a full listing of our adoptable pets. Our adoption fees:Cats range from $150 to $175. Exotic breeds may be more. Dogs range from $250 to $350. High demand puppies and small dogs may be more. This fee includes: felv/fiv/heartworm testing, worming, flea and ear mite treatments, age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, lab work, dental or other medical or surgical treatments as deemed necessary by our team of veterinarians and a microchip with free registration.

Story
Sweet Andie girl came to us abandoned and scared. Once we got her into a foster home it took her some time to adjust. Now with just a little time and patience this sweet girl is doing wonderful! We think her to be a cattle mix possibly, 30lbs and approx. 10 months old. She is crate trained, house trained, she LOVES everyone she meets, loves dog friends, toys and napping in her favorite dog bed and also loves to go on walks. Due to her past she is a little unsure in new environments but she is learning fast. Right now she is also trying to understand personal space lol. She is the absolute sweetest girl that is so grateful to have been rescued we know she will be an amazing dog! Please give this girl a chance and apply online. August 19, 2024, 10:33 pm

Story
I've been sponsored by the Petfinder Kia Grant to help reduce adoption fees. Thanks to the wonderful Petfinder Foundation my adoption fee is only $25.00! Hello there! I'm Maise, your future best friend. I'm a bundle of joy, full of playful energy and smart as a whip! I'm brave and independent, but don't let that fool you, I'm also as sweet as can be. I'm looking for a home with a privacy fence, it's just my preference. I love older children, they understand my playful nature and I can learn so much from them. I do prefer to be the only pet in the house, I like all the attention on me! I promise to fill your life with laughter, love, and loyalty. Adopting me means gaining a friend for life! Oh did I mention, I just finished a 7 week training program where I earned my certificate of compleation. I know how to come, sit, stay, down, leave it and many more tricks. I also love car rides, tug of war and fetch!   ##1095560##

Story
Hi! I'm Brownie, a 7 month old Australian Cattle Dog mix. I came to the shelter with my sister, but she's been adopted already. I'm in a foster home and doing great. I'm a great player and would make the best family pet as I get along well with all! Take me home so I can be your baby... If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2082097##
