Story
I'm a funny, independent thinker with a serious case of "look-at-me" syndrome. My foster mom thinks Im a snack, but my selfies are more like a main course. At three, I've got the wisdom of an ancient dog and the energy of a caffeinated squirrel. I'm part Aussie, part Heeler, which means Im basically a tiny tornado with a to-do list. I love structure - it's like adulting but with treats. Dogs are cool, kids are fun, but cats and I? Oil and water. Or maybe more like cats and dogs - we just don't mix. Looking for my human sidekick. Must be able to keep up with my endless supply of charm and puppy dog eyes. Think you're the one? Let's give this whole "best friends" thing a shot. www.muttsandmissfits.org to meet adorable rescue pups and support a great cause.

Story
Hi my name is Odinn! I am nearly 5 years old and I am an energetic boy who likes to cruise around the yard and play all the time until i take a long nap. I would do great with someone who is active, has a fenced yard, and willing to keep up with my pace. I do not like small spaces so I do not like to be crated but I’m perfectly fine to be left alone in the house. I still need some work on a leash because I can get so excited. I do not chew or tear up anything I shouldn’t. If you give me an Amazon box, I love to help chew those up to fit better in the recycling bin. I would do best in a home with no other animals and children only over 10 years old. Swimming is my favorite activity! I also enjoy going to 1000 acres dog park, paddle boarding, hiking, camping, playing in the rain/snow, and any puzzle game you provide. I am very smart, affectionate, fearless, and a huge people person. You coming home to me is the best part of my day besides getting to adventure with you.

Story
Kiwi, our 2 and 1/2 year old cattle dog mix, was adopted through Stumptown Strays when she was just a puppy. She and her littermates were found stray and needed help. Sadly, Kiwi needs our help again. Her adoptive family will no longer keep her and we desperately need to find Kiwi a forever home. Kiwi's current family is willing to hang on to her for a little bit while we begin the search. Here is what they have to say about Kiwi: "While we adore her, the arrival of a new baby has made it difficult to give Kiwi the time and attention she deserves. We’re seeking a home where she can thrive—ideally one without young children. Additionally, Kiwi has shown leash reactivity on walks when encountering unfamiliar dogs and has occasionally exhibited nipping behavior. While we’ve worked with a trainer and seen some progress, we unfortunately don’t have the time to dedicate fully to her ongoing needs. She would do best with an experienced dog owner who is familiar with managing reactivity and is willing to continue her training. In the home, Kiwi is incredibly loving and thrives on affection. She adores snuggles and will happily soak up all the pets and attention you can offer.” Kiwi really struggled with seeing other dogs while she was on leash. According to her family, Kiwi once redirected her frustration and nipped the male owner's pants (did not make skin contact). Because of this, they are nervous to have her around their baby. When the family first contacted us, we reached out to a behaviorist right away and got Kiwi started on Prozac. Since starting the medication, Kiwi is much more relaxed. This is a medication that should be continued for at least the next 7 months; it is very affordable. Kiwi currently lives with a cat that she loves and another dog. Kiwi needs slow introductions to dogs and does best with non-reactive ones. We are not asking for any adoption fee for Kiwi. We just really want her to have a chance for success. Her adoption will come with the help of a boarded behaviorist. Think yours is the home for Kiwi? Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org

Story
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow1snfQd7sg&t=1s Las Vegas is a beautiful girl who had to raise not one but two litters at an abandoned house. Look at the video to see when I first found them. She had 3 older puppies and 3 babies with her. She weighs around 35 lbs and is great with other dogs. She is ok around cats, not aggressive, but will chase them if they run, so no kitties in her home. She is very submissive with humans and mostly with other dogs as well. The only time she can get a little dominant is when it comes to feeding time (only with other dogs, not with humans) but can you really blame her? She had to fend for herself and all of her babies and make sure she and them don't starve. She is fed with several other dogs and there are no actual issues, she just growls sometimes and wants to eat first or have her own bowl, but she has NEVER attacked or gone beyond growling. She is such a sweet and deserving little momma and she should finally get a break and get some rest in her very own home with her very own family. She is currently still in Oklahoma where she was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take her in or she will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue/reviews Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Seattle/Tacoma) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Illinois (Vandalia) - Indiana (Spiceland) - Ohio (Columbus) - Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) Adoption fee: $485 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma) Adoption application: https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95

Story
Video (copy and paste the link into a new browser window) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UITPKGHPYo Sissy was see being dumped by a woman on a rural road with her sister, a beagle mix, and a yorkie. They were terrified and Sissy and Sassy were only about 4 months old at the time. It took me all day to find and catch all 4 of them. Sissy is about 7-8 months old now and weighs around 30 lbs or less. She hasn't grown in a while so I think she is full grown now. She appears to be a heeler mix and her sister looks just like her too. She is great with other dogs and with cats. She is a bit more on the independent side and doesn't crave lots of attention from her human but does enjoy receiving it when attention and kisses are given to her. She loves water and romping in the woods. She follows like a champ off leash and does well in a crate too. She will be a great adventure buddy to someone lucky. She is currently still in Oklahoma where she was rescued but she can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. She has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. Story
** Currently fostered in Houston Texas, but available for adoption out of state via rescue transportation, included in adoption fee. Offer Zoom call to virtually meet prior to adoption. Meet Barkley! This sweet baby wandered up on someone's property. He was wearing a harness on that had the brand name boots and barkley, so that's where the finder got his name. Barkley was chipped, but unfortunately it was not registered. It shows that he was adopted in January2023, and that he is estimated about 5 years of age. He currently weighs around 55 lbs and we believe him to be a border collie/cattle dog mix. He has energy and he loves to run and play, but can be a couch potato too. His favorite thing in the world is to play fetch with a ball! Barkley likes other dogs if they are female, but has not been a fan of males traditionally. We believe it's from a lack of social time with other dogs because he doesn't come off as just an aggressive pup, he just seems like he was kept in a yard and ignored a lot of the time prior to rescue and may not be familiar with most dogs. Barkley clearly knows his basic commands, such as sit, kennel, shake and settle. He is highly toy and food motivated and responds wonderfully to focused training. With continued training, we could even see him being an agility pup! Barkley is crate trained, housebroken and does well on leash. He is fully vetted, meaning he us neutered, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and on monthly preventions for flea, tick and heartworm. For more information on how to adopt Barkley, contact us at MokasMission@Gmail.com for an application.

Story
We are heartbroken to let Gemma go, but we feel it is in her best interest. We had an Aussie before and lost her in 2023. In May 2024 we purchased Gemma and her sister Luna from a breeder. Both dogs came to us ill and the breeder said nothing. She did not give us papers although they are suppose to be purebred, we have no paperwork to prove it. Both dogs are now healthy after us spending an incredible amount at the vet. For the 1st few months they were cooped up contagious with recurrent Giardia and UTI’s. Because of this, Gemma has develop a high level of anxiety, so we can’t even let her loose in a dog park, or take her on a walk without issues. My wife and I are in our 60’s and even though we had an Aussie for 13 years, we forgot how much exercise they need, at present we live in a manufactured home park with very little yard. I am disabled and my wife works full time, unfortunately the dogs aren’t getting what they need, which is consistent training and a place to run.
