Maxx ACCT-A-209789 is a gentle and loving pup who starts off shy but blossoms with a calm, patient approach. Once he feels secure, he shows his playful and affectionate side, happily soliciting pets and snuggles.
He’s a smart boy who already knows commands like sit, down, and paws, and he takes treats gently. Maxx enjoys toys, fetch, and playtime, and while he pulls minimally on leash, a harness or some training would be helpful. If you’re looking for a loyal and sweet companion, Maxx is ready to be your new best friend!

Behavior Notes:
Per staff on 1/6: “Maxx came out for activity time today. Maxx was super wiggly and jumped all over me, he was super goofy and is a super go lucky boy! I'm obsessed with this cutest boy and he is a bit shy and timid but warms up to other people and play! He is such a great dog and loves to play with all toys and knows all the tricks in the book. He loves to run around and loves to run in the snow.”
Per staff on 1/6: “Very nervous during dog meets- go slow! Does not escalate at all but will do hops away from the dog if they come on strong.”
Per volunteer 12/28/24: Maxx barked a few times when I approached kennel but otherwise body language was comfortable. He took a treat from me and laid down to eat it. When I came to leash, he was excited to go outside but slightly hesitant to be leashed. His OS form says not fully housetrained - however he went pee immediately outside. He pooped 3-4 times and appeared to have been holding it. He does pull on leash so a harness might help but leash training would be ideal. I did give some pets, but he does seem hesitant and a little startled at first. When I came back to kennel to give him a treat later in the day he was very wiggly and happy to see me now that we have met.
Per staff 12/27/24:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
In the kennel, Maxx was much calmer as I kept feeding him treats every time I passed his kennel. I brought the milk bone soft and chewy as that's his favorite and opened the kennel door slightly. I handed him a couple from my hand and he slowly came up with a low wagging tail and wide scared eyes. He took the treats from me gently and would eat them a little further back from me. I tried to reach in with the leash but he blacked up so I lured him through the leash with treats.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING:
In the room, Maxx had a mid level wagging tail and solicited affection from me many times. He went to the bathroom for about 10 minutes before finally loosening up and darting around the room. He is very sweet and cuddly but he needs lots of time for that part of him to come out. He needed a calmer and slower approach and lots of patience. With time he allowed all handling and even solicited affection. He knew paws, sit and down and was very obedient. With extended handling, going slow and giving him some time, he didn't allow me to touch his paws and tail and first warmed up to it, slightly pulling back but not being reactive.
PLAY:
Engages in play
TOYS:
Loves toys, brings them back for you to throw, releases willingly
Per owner 12/26/24: happy, energetic, teething, knows sit and stay. Friendly with strangers and children
Medical:
On 12/31 staff noted: “This dog has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. They will need a veterinarian to examine them before they receive surgery, if they are not already altered.”
