Story
Rowley is a true cuddle-bug. While he has a bit of a mischievous streak, none of that matters when he snuggles in next to you. Or on you. Your heart will become a glorious warm puddle in your chest. He is beautifully socialized and pretty much bomb proof. His mischief includes mostly trying to steal food from the table, knocking over trash cans and squirreling his toys (and others’ toys) in his crate. He’s tall enough to look on the counter, but not tall enough to get more than a sniff. (If there’s a chair nearby, though, he is not afraid of scaling heights to get to the plate of french fries you’ve foolishly left on the counter!) He doesn’t chew anything inappropriate and has been sleeping happily all night curled up next to his foster mom on her bed. He is a strong dog who needs someone who can keep hold of his leash on walks, since he pulls to explore all the smells. He gets along with other dogs, but might be happiest as an only dog, because then he’ll get all the attention. He will bark at noises outside, but is happy to meet new people. He’ll be a great addition to any family. Story
Stumpy-Bassett Hound/Labrador Retriever (Bassador) male, ~ 1-2 yr. (March 2024) Contact rescuebc@hotmail.com for application to adopt. Stumpy is living in a very rural area with a family that asked for help in finding him a new home. He's used to living a family life with children and loves the children. He would be best as an only dog. He's a mixed dog but a popular mix, called a Bassador. The Bassador temperament can vary a lot depending on whether they take after their Lab or Basset Hound parent more. Generally, they are sociable and loving. We are fortunate to know how Stumpy has done, living with a family. Bassadors love attention, especially from their favorite person. If you want a dog with a very unique look who’s loyal to a fault, the Bassador could be the dog for you! Stumpy's adoption fee is $350 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption. For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Include your location and a phone number for future communication.

Story
Meet Lizzy. This sweet pup is looking for a fresh start after losing the only family she’s ever known. Lizzy's owners are going through a divorce, and neither was able to keep her. Still just a young pup with a full life ahead, we are happy to help her find her forever home. Lizzy is currently being fostered in an active home with a mom, dad, three boys (ages 6, 8, and 11), and two dogs. Coming from a quieter home with no dogs, she was initially nervous and unsure of her new surroundings. Her foster mom, Ashley, introduced her carefully, doing leashed meet-and-greets in the backyard to help Lizzy get familiar with her new pack. After a few hours, she began to relax and sniff her new buddies. Now she runs and plays like she’s been part of the pack forever! We checked in with Ashley for a first-week update: "Lizzy is such a joy to foster. She’s a happy girl and a quick learner! She’s already picked up on our nightly routine, so I’d say she’s adjusting well. She LOVES the kids and will make a fantastic family dog. I think she’d thrive in a home with either a pup playmate or children—she’s an active girl who loves to be outside and explore. She plays fetch and runs with the kids every day, so having a playmate will be key for her. Lizzy is house-trained and even came with potty bells—she knows to ring them at the door when she needs to go outside! She’s crated when no one is home, and while she wasn’t a fan at first—barking and whining even if someone was still around or the boys stepped outside—she’s already making progress. Over the past week, she’s become more comfortable going into her kennel and no longer barks for long. I’ve checked in on our cameras, and after about 10 minutes, she settles down nicely. While she enjoys playing with her dog buddies, Lizzy is very people-focused. She’s a busybody who always wants to be where her humans are. She’s a little shy at first but warms up quickly, greets visitors with a wagging tail, and loves to snuggle with the kids. We’re working on her leash skills—she’s eager to explore and wants to chase birds and squirrels. We’re also reinforcing basic manners, like keeping her paws off the dinner table and resisting the temptation of the boys’ plates when they’re not looking!” ********* Lizzy is an affectionate, active pup who will bring so much joy to the right home. If you’re looking for a playful, loving companion, she just might be the one… Looking for a foster or adopter to bring this pretty pup to town.  Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE: Beagle GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 27 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 1.5 years old COAT TYPE:  Short/Med ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Ft. Mill, SC - COMING to DC Metro Area late Feb/early March FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application.
