Story
Demi is a gentle, intelligent, and affectionate 2-4 years old dog. She has a medium energy level, is quiet indoors, and walks beautifully on a leash. She is also a fast learner, picking up sit in just two days. Demi loves people, communicates well, and expresses herself in adorable ways, giving you that look when she wants attention. Demi would do best as the only dog in the home or with a calm, experienced older dog who can guide her social interactions. A backyard is ideal since she tends to feel nervous pottying in public spaces during her first few weeks in a new environment. She is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will need vaccines in April. She is covered by two insurance plans (MetLife & Pets Best). Due to ongoing tension with my resident dog, Demi is currently restricted to a small bedroom, which is not ideal for her well-being. She needs to have the space, attention, and love she truly deserves. I have prepared everything for a smooth transition.

Story
Is this dude foxy or what? Meet Zorro, a handsome 13-year old, 9-pound Chihuahua mix who looks like more like a young fox than a senior dog! Housebroken and good on a leash, Zorro does all his business outside, even in inclement weather which he clearly does not like. If you expect him to brave the elements, this proper prince will look to you to dress him in a rain coat and/or booties! And you’ll never see anything cuter! With an energy level on the lower side, Zorro has playful moments throughout the day, but overall, is pretty chill. Naps? He absolutely loves ‘em! Zorro has a few toys that he likes, but loses interest after a few minutes. Food is this guy’s first love! If you’re eating it, he wants a taste. If he can’t get you to share, he’ll lick up your crumbs. No need for a dust buster with this furry vacuum cleaner nearby! Your floors will always be clean! Zorro is okay with other respectful dogs, but would prefer not to share his space/home with them. Cats, no thank you. Kids, nah, too unpredictable. Zorro tends to latch on to one specific human and will give that person 150% of his love and devotion. That person will be the sweet soul who’ll be Zorro’s cuddle-buddy, his snuggle-mate, his couch companion, his petting partner, and his loving, loyal, best friend for life. Zorro has certain anxieties about having his food, his people, or his possessions threatened or taken away. Reactive and barky, he has been working hard at curbing these guarding behaviors, which, once you become familiar with them, are fairly easy to predict and/or avoid. As such, Zorro would benefit from a calm, quiet, adult-only home where his quirks could be well-managed, thus allowing his true inner self to sparkle and shine. Capable of listening and learning, Zorro has mastery of several commands including sit, lie down, stay/wait, look at me, and come. He also travels like a pro. He looovvves car rides! This fella is as deserving as the next. Zorro just needs the right environment to relax, thrive, and show you what a good boy he can be! C’mon, how can ya resist this orange-colored peanut? Story
Say hello to Tina, a 4.5 month old, 10-pound (as of 1/11) Chihuahua/Terrier mix who has a heart of gold and a tail that never stops wagging. Bright-eyed, curious, goofy, and playful, Tina is the cutest little nugget who puts a smile on everyone’s face. A wee bit timid, Tina is somewhat afraid of loud noises and busy city streets, but with continued exposure, she is overcoming her shyness and gaining more confidence. She walks well on a leash and loves to sniff everything in her path. She is friendly and sweet toward humans of all ages, including children, and she plays very nicely with other dogs. Tina would do great as an addition to any family! There isn’t a toy out there that Tina doesn’t like. Balls, stuffed animals, squeakies, she’s into them all. Same thing with food. Not the fussy type at all, Tina gobbles up her meals, her treats, or table scraps, whenever offered, with gusto and enthusiasm. When it comes to affection, that’s really where Tina shines. She lovvvves to cuddle and is obsessed with getting her belly rubbed and giving out kisses. The closer she can get to her humans, the better…even if that means draping herself on top of you. She’s just the most darling thing everrr. Tina has been working on her housebreaking skills and making excellent progress every day. She reliably uses pads when inside the home and she is crate trained, as well. Tina rarely barks, she shares her possessions without hesitation, and she loves riding in the car. And she’s portable! It doesn’t get much better than that! If you’re looking for a small, adorable young dog who will shower you with love and affection, Tina is your girl! Story
Rascal might have been named "Rascal" by her previous owners but she's really more of a Buttercup, or a Rosie or a Daisy! This sweet, gentle, and well-behaved girl is 9 lbs. and is estimated to be between 13-14 years old...although she didn't get THAT memo! Rascal is full of life and has all her faculties, all of which she puts to great use especially when the treats come out! She will stare you down for treats and once you finally give in with the justification that she has indeed been a very good girl and crack open the bag, she will come running with glee and will gobble with gusto! All joking aside, Rascal is truly GEM of a dog in her own right, age aside! For anyone looking for or open to a vibrant and with-it senior, this is your gal! Rascal is a happy girl who loves life! Rascal loves her multiple daily walks around Central Park and the NYC sidewalks and actively enjoys checking out the goings on and other dogs. She will often stop to watch other dogs running around the green or will look up curiously at a passerby or just enjoy the scenery and sunshine. If told "Let's go! or "Come on!" she will pick up her step and continue on readily. She can easily do a large loop in the park multiple times a day, including some small hills. She's excellent on a leash and light on her feet. She's a lovely walking companion and has great manners! She does not pull or bark at anything on the walk. If a dog approaches her, she will allow sniffing and then be on her way. And don't underestimate her size and age with regard to speed as she can certainly keep up with a moderate New Yorker's pace! She also easily outpaces the 12-year-old chihuahua living in her foster home. She also has no fear of city noises in the slightest (and no, she's not deaf!). She also understands that outside is where ALL "business" is done and will empty her bladder entirely at one time (she's not a marker). She will also go on wee wee pads if available but she prefers to go outside and if she really has to go, she'll let you know she needs to go out. If she is taken out regularly, her house training is perfect. She also doesn't seem to mind the rain too much and will go to the bathroom in less-than-ideal weather without an issue. Rascal is excellent with other dogs. She's currently in a home with 3 chihuahuas (one 12-year-old (as mentioned), one lively 10-year-old and one 11-year-old). She's also been around another very rambunctious 21 lb. pug for a few days and could not have cared less. While it appears she enjoys other dogs' presence in the home in passing, she would be fine as a solo dog with a family that dotes on her as her focus is more on people than dogs. Rascal LOVES people! She follows her foster humans around the apartment from room to room; she loves human company and wants to be included. Once convinced that the humans aren't moving from a certain room for a while, she will get on her doggie bed and go to sleep. She enjoys being carried and she might even particularly enjoy being carried supine like a baby especially if getting a belly rub at the same time. She enjoys pets and rubs and loves getting kisses on her head and cheek. She will lean in and nuzzle herself in a person's nook and get a scratch. She enjoys sitting with her foster mom on her lap or couch while she does computer work; she'll just snooze peacefully. Rascal also enjoys her crate and will often be caught napping in her crate at her own will. She also has no issue with visitors. She likes men and women equally and given her personality, we think she'd be great with respectful children (she also grew up with children in her previous home and she loved them). Rascal is one of those dogs that might come off as a little aloof on day one as she settles in, but by day 2 you think you might not be able to live without her. She's SUCH a sweet girl! Second to people, Rascal loves food! She isn't picky and she hasn't turned her nose up at one thing yet. She will remind you when dinner time is near with an extra-intent stare, mouth agape and little gallop/jump. Rascal is fine being left alone (currently with her doggie foster companions) in an enclosed area for several hours. She may moan very softly at first but it will stop (foster has a pet camera and monitors) and then she'll go into her crate to nap. It's not the type of noise to disturb neighbors as it isn't loud (this is also behavior the foster observed after having her for only a week so it may stop entirely). She also does not get into things, does not jump over gates and does not destroy or chew anything (again, more of a Buttercup than a Rascal these days!). Other perks: Rascal knows when it's time for bed and sleeps through a full night without fail. She is compliant and allows clothing to be put on her without any struggle. She is an excellent travel companion (she was fine traveling on the subway and in a cab and stays put in her doggie bag). Also, her teeth are AMAZING! Her previous owner got her regular dental cleanings and it shows. She has almost all of her teeth and they are in great shape. This is quite rare for a chihuahua of her age. She also doesn't really shed. If you run your hand down her back, you might see only 1 hair. Rascal is hoping to find a forever family who will give her all the love and treats she deserves and hopefully that is you! Truly, any person would be lucky to have her! Story
Why adopt only one adorable dog when you can take home two? Introducing Lilly, a 4-year old Yorkie/Chihuahua mix and Peaches, a 4-year old Chihuahua/Spaniel/Shih Tzu mix, a bonded pair of pups and the absolute best-est of friends. Like two peas in a pod, these gals have similar personalities: Loving, snuggly, sweet, and sassy. Equally charming, Lilly and Peaches get along beautifully with humans, as well as other dogs. Lilly is the more energetic of the two, and Peaches more prone to laziness. Lilly likes to go for walks, play fetch, and hide her favorite ball, while Peaches prefers lounging around inside the comfort and safety of her own home. They are both fully housebroken, pad trained, and crate trained. As long as they have each other, they’re super well-behaved and fully cooperative. Master cuddlers, both girls are extremely affectionate and love being pet, scratched, and caressed. They love treats, they’re good eaters, and they respond to the commands sit, stay, down, and touch. Lilly and Peaches usually only bark in response to loud noises, but they’re otherwise generally quiet. With their swinging single days behind them, Lilly and Peaches’ ideal environment would be a home outside the city limits, where they can enjoy a more peaceful, serene, suburban-like existence. Welcome to middle age, ladies! ;-) Special in their own unique way, Lilly and Peaches depend on each other, as much as they rely on the humans that care for them. Like twins, these two make quite an incredible pair! What a gift it would be to give these furry ‘lil munchkins a warm, welcoming home of their very own. Up for the task? You won’t regret it!
