Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet small girl seeking fresh start and love! TORY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Tory      Best Guess for Breed:   Chihuahua and terrier mix Best Guess for Age:  7 years as of July 2024      Gender:   Female Approximate Weight:   17.4 lbs Gets Along With: Tory lives with other dogs in her foster home. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. We would be cautious placing Tory in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At: DC area foster home Check out this video of Tory: https://youtu.be/v_sZh6rorqI. Tory is Looking For: Her forever home! She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is oh so eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. Sure, she's not a young pup any longer but you know, small dogs can live quite a long time and Tory will have plenty of energy for quite some time to come! You may notice that Tory has a cherry eye in the photos. The good news is that will be fixed while by the time she arrives in the DC area. What she wants most of all, though, is to love and be loved, to know where she belongs, to know she's under her own roof every time the sun goes down. In exchange she promises adoring gazes and little tail wags and to always make you smile. What do you say? Is Tory the companion you have been seeking? What My Foster Says About Me: Tory is doing great! She’s incredibly sweet and fun to have around! I haven’t seen her around kids yet but she adores everyone she meets. She’s smart and clearly well behaved. I was impressed by how much she sped along on our walk. I left her in her crate for a few hours and she seemed to handle it well. She loves playing with her toys and cuddling up on the sofa. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, and spay/neuter.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested.  We would be cautious placing Magenta in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog rescue campus in South Carolina. Needs a foster or forever home in the DC area after completing heartworm treatment! Special Adoption Considerations: Magenta is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Magenta is Looking For: Magenta landed in a rural, overcrowded Texas shelter nursing her puppies. She was heartworm positive and was brought to the Lucky Dog rescue campus to receive treatment. Despite her rough previous chapter, she is just such a sweetie.  She's looking for her new chapter, the one where she gets her own humans for sniffy walks and world exploration. She just wants to know she's safe and loved and under her own roof. And to know upon whom to bestow all the adoring gazes and snuggles she has been storing up.  What do you say? Is Magenta the companion you have been seeking? Please contact Mamie Hall (mamie.hall@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet, sweet small girl ISO fresh start and love! KILIMANJARO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Kilimanjaro        Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 7 years as of July 2024      SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:  11.4 lbs   Gets Along With:   Kilimanjaro does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested.  We would be cautious placing her in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.     Currently Living at:  Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area after her puppies are weaned!   Special adoption considerations:  Because Kilimanjaro is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog.    You may also notice one of her eyes looks a little off. She has a cataract in that eye; her adopter may want to consult with their veterinarian about that.    See this sweet mama enjoy some pets while nursing her puppies in this video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX_lZiDfdWA   Kilimanjaro is Looking For:   The life she should always have had. This small sweetie was seized as part of a hoarding case. She was heavily pregnant at rescue and had her puppies in the shelter. She has been an amazing mama to Hedgehog. Hippo, and Honey Badger, and they're all off to get their own homes now. At seven years of age, having babies is hard but she will never have to have another litter. It's now her turn to get all the love and affection and care she's been lavishing upon them.    She may be a little older but small dogs live quite a while - and she wants to enjoy all the years she has ahead! Right now, she is understandably shy of the bigger world- dogs from hoarding situations often don't get all the socialization they need, and Kilimanjaro will benefit from having a welcoming resident dog who shows her what a well-loved dog's life really should be like. One where she gets long walks, give toys and treats and a cushy pillow, and gets totally spoiled.    In exchange, her humans will get an incredibly loving and appreciative little pup who wants nothing more than to be with her family. What do you say? Is she the companion you have been seeking? Will you be her soft landing? Rupert has all that awesome young-dog energy and is eager for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures his new humans can dream up. Squeaky plush toys, ropes for tug, balls for fetch 0 he'd like to try those, too, and see what he likes. Cushy dog bed, couch cushion, warm lap - same thing here, he'd like to test out all of those!   In exchange, he promises to give you all the adoring gazes he's storing up, to make you laugh, and to always be your loyal companion. What do you say? Is that a fair trade? What My Foster Says About Me: If they gave out medals for being an all-around good pup, Rupert would win the gold! He plays with gusto with other young dogs, but is respectful of my senior dog. Rupert frequently asks for cuddles and then easily falls asleep in your lap. He loves going on walks and playing with toys. Rupert is learning to sit nicely when asked and sleeps quietly through the night in his crate. He is definitely a gold medal pup!
