Story
Sweet boy Wiley! This 12 month old pup is SUPER sweet!! He loves everyone! He's good with kids and other friendly dogs. Cats are unknown so we're recommending no cats just because of his breed and he may chase! Wiley's mom is a Norwegian Elkhound... his dad was the area's free roaming Rat Terrier mix. We assume because of his small size dad was small! Thankfully the owner allowed us to spay mom and they decided to keep her. Wiley is around 20 pounds. We know the pictures make him look bigger but he's not. His foster mom carries him around one handed with ease! He's a silly, playful boy who just wants to be with his people! Wiley, like his name sake can be an escape artist and will try to escape any breach in fencing so he does require secure physical fencing! He unfortunately was born under a barn and never had boundaries and as you all know ..that's NOT a good thing! Just like his dad he WILL roam if given the chance! Wiley would do fantastic in a home with children! He loves children and does very well with dog savvy, respectful children! ❤ When he's tired he will snuggle right up in your lap or right next to you! Preferably in your lap! Wiley is crate trained. He's crated at night & while foster family is not home and does well. Although he wouldn't protest sleeping with any humans! He likes to be with his people! Wiley is housebroken too! Bonus!! He will excited piddle occasionally but only if he hasn't been out for awhile and his bladder is full! He's a great little pup who just wants to be loved! ❤ Here's a note from his foster mom: We absolutely adore this little guy! He is such a love! His sweet & silly personality makes him the perfect little companion for just about any family looking for a smaller dog! Wiley is fully vetted including his neuter, age appropriate vaccines, rabies, bordetella, de-wormed, flea & tick treated, on heartworm prevention, and microchipped We adopt within a 4-hour radius of Toledo,OH Our adoption fee is $400 Note: We DO require a secure physically fenced yard for Wiley! https://www.deaconshope.org/adoption-application.html

Story
Meet Zora! Zora came to us from a cruelty/neglect situation, and she was emaciated and in rough shape when she came in. That did not keep her from being a normal sweet pittie who loves to sit directly in your lap and give kisses, and get booty scratches. Zora has learned about toys since getting to our shelter, and seems to like playing with tennis balls the best. Zora is always happy to see people, and even though she had a rough start in life, she is always sweet and gets along with everyone, including kids, dogs, and cats. Since she has been here we have gotten her to a healthy weight and she's ready to start her new life in a forever home! Zora is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and tested negative for heartworm. Apply for Zora here: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/signup/664c2ea080ba55b07a0e6299

Story
Meet Sid, the 3-year-old Boxer/Great Dane mix! Sid came into the shelter after his owner unfortunately lost her battle with Cancer. When he first came in, he was terrified, and was slow to trust our staff. However, we learned quickly that he LOVES to play with tennis balls! He also loves to play tug-of-war with a rope. Sid is very sweet once he gets to know you. He walks nicely on a leash, and he’s VERY potty trained. He does NOT make messes in his kennel. He has a huge bark that matches his huge personality, and he enjoys scaring the kennel attendants by waiting until they are almost past his kennel and THEN barking! Sid is going to be a great dog for someone. He is dog selective, so if you already have a dog we would require a meet & greet. We do think he’d do well with a calmer, female dog. We do not know how he will do with cats. Sid is neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations, and tested negative for heartworms. Story
Behold Alazay! The furry giant, part mastiff, part bulldog, and all-around massive! Don't let his size fool you, he's a total cuddle bug! He absolutely LOVES kids of all sizes! He's a senior pup, but boy, does he love a good soak in the bath! You'll find him chewing away at rope toys and begging for butt scratches, but his favorite pastime is getting belly rubs. Attention is his thing, and he's not afraid to ask for it. Good for this guy as he needs to be the only pet in the home- more attention for him! He's all about playing and frolicking around, but watch out for his obsession with tennis balls – it's kind of his Achilles heel! A gentle giant, he's the perfect cuddle buddy for your lazy days. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Application: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/signup/664c2ea080ba55b07a0e6299

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Duke! Duke came to us originally from another shelter in 2021, and was adopted. Then, in 2023 he was returned through no fault of his own. He’s been in here ever since. He’s now almost 7 years old and has spent most of his years in shelters. He does not get along with other animals, which has really diminished his prospects of getting a forever home. Duke is a goofball, and a shelter favorite. When he’s doing tricks (he knows sit, lay down, shake, and speak!) he will scooch backwards while “sitting” to really emphasize that he is, in fact, sitting down. He also walks great on a leash, and LOVES to go for car rides! He even loves bath time here at the shelter! This boy loves toys, and especially loves to *destroy* stuffed toys. However, because he also loves to swallow toy parts, we have banned him from having them here at the shelter. He’s had a couple of surgeries to repair his intestines because of damage done by squeakers! He still gets Kongs, and other toys that don’t come apart. Duke has had most of his teeth removed, has “old man bumps” on his body, seems to have lost some of his hearing, and drools A LOT, but he makes up for all of that with the amount of love he shows, and the amount of fun he has. Although he’s spent so much of his life in shelters, his spirit is always up and he loves living life to the fullest! Apply for Duke here: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/signup/664c2ea080ba55b07a0e6299
