Benny was found running the streets in a stray dog pack in the Rio Grande Valley. When he first came here, he was fearful around men and could be a bully to new dogs, but he's come a long way since then. Once he gets to know you, he's a sweet, funny, playful dog who wants to be with you as much as possible. Benny was initially cat-aggressive, but he's been around cats for several months and has grown used to them. He mostly ignores them but sometimes chases them. He can be around cats, but should not be left alone with them. (I kennel him when we leave.) Benny gets along well with most female dogs, but he can be dominant towards male dogs. He shows some resource guarding of both food and people and seems to want to "defend" his people from other dogs. That doesn't mean he can't get along with other dogs or other male dogs, but he needs to be introduced to other dogs carefully. The same can be true for introducing him to new people---he needs some time to build trust. Someone who is willing to take time and socialize Benny with other people and animals would be a great adopter. Benny is a great dog who really wants to please. He is loving, affectionate, and playful.

Here are some glowing notes his foster family shared with us: "Indiana is such a sweet and affectionate boy! The way he belly crawls into our laps and gives full-body hugs just melts our hearts. Indy is extremely smart and easy to teach, and has already mastered basic commands like "come and "sit. He is potty-trained, sleeps quietly all night in his kennel, and he has lovely house manners. This handsome boy plays so nicely with other dogs, he and his PAWS foster brother (Theo) have so much fun together! Indy just adores people, he is instant friends with adults and kids alike. A cool thing about Indy is that even though he is part Border Collie, he has no desire whatsoever to herd or chase our livestock. You can see in the photos he wanders peacefully around our horses like they aren't even there. He would do great as a family pet or a farm dog, he is such a good boy! INDY gets serious "wiggle-booty" when excited and mimics the movements of a sssssnake!

She eagerly greets every new face with a wag of her tail and a gentle nuzzle. She is not a big fan of cats or other dogs, so she will do best in a home where she is the only furry companion. Godiva has one of the brightest minds and quickly picks up on new commands. She knows all the basics in addition to some fun tricks, she'll even give hugs and kisses when asked! His foster family has had nothing but praise for Texas, highlighting his seamless transition into their home and the bond they have formed. Texas' personality is a unique blend of affection and quirks. While he can be fearful of men, he just needs a bit more time and patience to get comfortable around them.
