Story
Please contact Connie Kiggins (conniek@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet XL girl ISO her home! OAKLEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!   Come meet Oakley and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (03/16) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church, VA (6100A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)!     Name:  Oakley          Best Guess for Breed:  Mastiff and retriever mix   Best Guess for Age:  7 months as of February 2024        SEX:    Female   Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!):    42 lbs as of 12/22/24   Gets Along With:   Oakley is good with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. She's in her prime socialization period and this is a good time for her to meet cats, we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! We would be cautious placing Oakley in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home.   Special Adoption Considerations:      Right now, Oakley is pretty shy as she adjusts to life in a home. She needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will help show her the ropes! Oakley is Looking For:   Woof! My sisters Poppy, Piggy, Tubbs and my brother Cooper and I enjoyed our puppy pile but now we're eager to split up and get our own homes! I'm not complicated - I'd love to have a family to take walks with, go on hikes with, take car rides with, go to the dog park and a training class!! I would love to show my humans how much I love them. My needs are really rather basic: food, a bed (I can certainly share yours in a pinch hahaha I'm not really kidding I can), some toys (I promise not to use your shoes instead plus you're going to be smart and put them away ; ) ), some walks (and those are good for you too) and trips to the dog park or doggie day care (also I'm sure good for you!). And in exchange, I'll be the best girl for you and love you for the rest of my life!!    What do you say? Is there space for me in your home and your heart?  What My Foster Says About Me: Oakley was very scared when she arrived a week ago. When we brought her home, she immediately went into the crate and stayed there. The first evening, our teen sat outside her crate and talked to her for hours with our dog by her side. She was able to get Oakley out of the crate the following night, with Oakley taking our dog’s lead into the living room and the couch.  Oakley is  learning to trust us. She now comes off the couch to look outside the bay window where our dog loves to lounge and watch the neighborhood happenings, and she loves to sit and get pets. She goes into the crate on her own and that is her favorite spot at night. She is the sweetest pup and adores our dog. It’s so sweet to see them together in the back yard, as Oakley is her shadow. It’s so hard not to fall in love with her... Come out and meet her! Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!  TO ADOPT:       The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter.    If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life! Please visit us online at        www.luckydoganimalrescue.org       . BE A FOSTER!!!       Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org! Story
Name: Shaq Sex: Male Estimated Age: About a year old Best Guess for Breed: Mixed Breed Mastiff Dog Weight: About 60 lbs Lives With: Dogs and adults (including kids). Housebroken? Shaq is housebroken. He is currently working on crate training (making great progress!) and learning his basic commands. Story: Shaq was rescued from a shelter locally in Washington, DC. Shaq is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. He knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with his humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Shaq is just looking for someone to be his new best furend and we know that he will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. As a puppy, Shaq will need an adopter who is committed to setting him up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising him both mentally and physically. He will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Shaq is really just the best, and we absolutely adore him. He is 100% the most cuddly dog we have fostered and is an absolute ham. He’s great with other dogs and all humans. He’s fully potty trained and only goes to the bathroom outside. He’s good on the leash, but can be a little mouthy when he plays (like a typical puppy) - we are working with him to correct this behavior and he’s responding really well to training. He has lived with kids and other dogs and does great. He’s a great, happy boy and will make a fabulous family dog or companion! The fee to adopt Shaq is $475. That covers the cost of all his vaccines, the collar he’s wearing, his transport to DC and his care in his foster home. He’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines and neutered. Shaq has been seen by a shelter vet and we are not aware of any health issues. If you think that Shaq might be your perfect match, apply today!February 28, 2025, 10:22 pm

Story
Scooby is the most lovable 1 to 2 year old lab/black mouth cur mix. He was rescued from a rural Virginia shelter but has adapted well to being in a foster home, both house trained and crate trained. He is friendly with kids and other dogs, super playful but in need of some manners training. He wants to be with his people constantly, helping with every chore! He loves his basket of toys and redirects well when chewing on something he shouldn't. He has not tested well with cats. He loves to play in the yard and will retrieve a thrown ball all day. Although a bigger pup with giant feet, he really just wants to be a lap dog, soaking up all the love he can get. He came to us pretty thin and is food motivated, making training productive. Thank you for your interest in Scooby 2! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=18059 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Scooby 2, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.

Story
Dapper gentleman!Meet Newton – The Dapper Gentleman! Looking for a dog with both style and smarts? Meet Newton, a handsome 3-year-old brindle Mastiff mix, weighing about 65 pounds. With his regal looks and impeccable manners, Newton is the definition of dapper—but despite his charm, he was overlooked at an overcrowded shelter. Fortunately, his luck changed, and he was selected for a board and train program at Ridgeside K9 Central MD to polish his skills and prepare for his forever home. Smart, Eager, and Full of Personality Newton quickly impressed his trainers with his enthusiasm for learning. He’s food-motivated, eager to please, and already knows Sit, Paw, Down, and basic leash manners. His training is focusing on: &#226&#156&#133 Obedience & impulse control &#226&#156&#133 Leash walking & engagement with his handler &#226&#156&#133 Advanced commands like recall with distance & distractions &#226&#156&#133 Socialization with other dogs & people of all ages &#226&#156&#133 Exposure to public places for confidence-building Newton loves people and has a playful, joyful energy, acting like a much younger pup when he jumps, runs, and interacts. He has shown an affectionate nature—especially towards women—and has been friendly with dogs of all sizes. His training will help determine the best home environment for him. Since he was found as an underweight stray, Newton is still filling out to reach a healthy weight. With continued love and care, he’s sure to thrive in a home that appreciates his charm, intelligence, and big heart. Ready to Bring Home This Dapper Gentleman? Adoption Fee: $450 (includes neuter, routine vetting, and microchip). To apply for Newton, visit www.tarashouse.org or email info@tarashouse.net with any questions. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Izzabella aka Izzy. HISTORY: One owner who did not provide basic medical care so Izzy lived many year with out of control skin issues, ear infections, UTI’s, etc. PERSONALITY: Izzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the house. She loves attention and affection and will lean in hard for pets and ear scratches. She tends to spend her days snoozing away but when she gets the zoomies she takes them seriously and this girl can move despite her age.  She lives peacefully with a 60lb male mixed breed but is reactive when seeing dogs out on a walk. Izzy is a bit fearful of fireworks and thunderstorms and will sometimes get spooked by loud noises. Izzy likes things to happen on her own personal timeline and can be stubborn when they don’t. She will test limits by whining and carrying on (dancing around, stomping her feet, wagging her tail furiously while staring at you) to try to get her way. She’s learning that those things don’t work in our house but it’s hard not to laugh at her antics. She’ll do it to the other dog in the house too when he’s laying in a bed that she wants. She usually gets her way with the dog.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Napping, soaking up love and attention, laying in the sun MEDICAL ISSUES: With vet care and a quality diet Izzy’s skin issues and ear infections have cleared up and she is no longer a big itchy mess. She did have a mammary tumor removed while being spayed. She is not currently on any medications. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Izzy enjoys hanging out with her people, so a family that spends a lot of time around the house/yard/garden would be great for her. Once integrated with another dog she is very polite and respectful but she definitely needs slow introductions to new dogs. Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.
