Story
Meet Charlie – A Heartwarming Survivor Looking for His Forever Home Charlie is a 40 lb Pointer/Hound mix who has overcome incredible odds to be where he is today. We found Charlie near an old motel, hiding out in the woods, weak and severely emaciated. He was brought to safety, and with time, love, and care, he's blossomed into the playful, affectionate dog we know and adore. Now, he's ready for his new beginning! Charlie’s personality is as charming as they come—his excitement is absolutely contagious, and when he’s happy, his whole body shakes with joy, a sight that's sure to make anyone smile. Charlie is now in his AFH foster home. We are excited to have Charlie.  Although so far he is a little shy we expect he will warm up with a little time. He LOVES snuggles and will seek out rubs. He is crate trained, house trained and learning to walk on a leash. If you’re looking for a funny, loving companion who’s overcome a tough start in life, Charlie could be the perfect addition to your family. His resilience and sweet nature will melt your heart. Could you be the one to give him the forever home he deserves?Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org March 5, 2025, 3:30 pm

Story
Kimberly is the cutest, cuddliest, most loving dog you will ever get the honor of adopting! She is house-trained, is not destructive in the home, and knows a host of commands including sit, down, place, paw, off, heel, and come, and has mastered a variety of different agility courses. All of this is a testament to Kimberly's keen intelligence and desire to please. A family or person who can reinforce this good behavior and continue on this positive path, would be ideal. Kimberly has energy that is suited for enjoying the great outdoors but she is also happy just cuddling all day long. She will greet you whenever you come home with the wiggliest of butts and bring you all her favorite toys - always giving you something to look forward to! With proper introductions, such as parallel walks, Kimberly enjoys the company of most dogs. To that end, she may not be an ideal match for a very high-energy or exuberant dog but, otherwise, would likely do well in a multi-pet household. Similarly, Kimberly enjoys meeting adults and would likely be better suited in a home with patient, older children. Lastly, in addition to her intelligence and loving nature, Kimberly is a nice size, truly adorable, and has the most soulful eyes. A true trifecta! Thank you for your interest in Kimberly! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=17089 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Kimberly, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.

KNOWN WITH DOGS: Domino prefers playing with dogs who don't play too hard and respect when he gives them signals. KNOWN WITH CATS: We do not currently know how they are with cats. If that is needed, let us know and we'll work on getting that information! KNOWN WITH KIDS: We are not sure how they do with kids, though he was concerned about meeting a toddler at an event. KNOWN CUES: Paw, Sit, Down, working on Spin, Crawl, and Touch. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Domino goes into and rests in his crate fine at the Adoption Center though he was more concerned about it in a home environment. He also seems to be housebroken. KNOWN LIKES: Sniffing, attention from friends who move at his speed, fetch, toys, treats. KNOWN DISLIKES: People who move too quickly, loud noises, being alone. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: What impact does the domino effect have on you? Exercise caution, as you might find yourself entranced just as I was. From the very first moment I encountered Domino, I was utterly captivated by him. We spent a delightful afternoon together, lounging on the sofa while I attended to my work. Domino made numerous attempts to assist me; he would perch on my lap and gaze at the computer screen. On occasion, he even attempted to type for me. Although his contributions may not have aligned with my needs, his efforts were nonetheless appreciated. While we were on the sofa, if I failed to give him sufficient attention, he would communicate his desire for interaction by tapping my arm with his paw. The moment I wrapped my arm around him or began to pet him, he would settle down contentedly. You may wonder where his happy place is. He adores lying beside you or nuzzling his head into your armpit. His affectionate nature is evident, as he bestows numerous kisses upon those he loves. Domino has a fondness for treats and enjoys being in the company of people. He interacts well with dogs, provided they respect his cues when he is ready to conclude playtime. He relishes cuddles, play sessions, and leisurely walks in tranquil environments. Although he may initially feel anxious when meeting new individuals, he quickly warms up and will express his affection through hugs and kisses. Indeed, he hugs by placing his paws on you and resting his head against your chest, which is undeniably endearing. Once he gets to know you, he wants to spend all his time by your side and would prefer a home with constant human companionship. So, I pose the question once more: What effect does the domino effect have on you? I invite you to visit the adoption center to meet him and discover for yourself what an extraordinary and lovable companion he truly is. Domino was neutered before coming to Homeward Trails. KNOWN WITH CATS: Daniel has not met a cat so we do not know. KNOWN WITH KIDS: We don't know how Daniel is with children, though he can be nervous around loud noises and sudden movements. KNOWN CUES: Daniel hasn't learned any tricks so far and would love your help to learn some. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Daniel feels safe in his crate and he walks into it nicely to watch the world around him. KNOWN LIKES: Sniffing, squeaky toys, people who move slowly with him. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Daniel was surrendered twice to a rural shelter partner in Rockbridge, once with his siblings as a puppy and again recently when his owner was no longer able to take care of him due to health issues. It's no wonder he can be a little nervous when his life has been so unpredictable. Daniel want to find a family he can love and trust, who will move at his speed and help him feel confident in our suburban area. He promises to repay you with all the cuddles and puppy kisses he can give - once he feels a little more comfortable. Daniel was neutered before coming to Homeward Trails. To learn more about Pepper, please get in touch with dogs@lostdogrescue.org Pepper will be attending one of our adoption events coming up this weekend! To learn more about our upcoming events and to see which event they will be attending, please visit our event page at https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/ (*please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending which events*) Pepper is a snuggle bug who is content taking long naps on the couch and big sniffs in the backyard. She’s curious, relatively calm, and just interested in checking out whatever surrounds her. Pepper would be interested in learning new tricks or meeting your furry friends! Even though she’s pretty much still a puppy, you don’t need to worry about any crazy antics! As long as she gets to come along for the ride and hang out with you wherever you go, she’s just a super sweet companion. She’s quite the chiller and eager to snuggle up and be cozy with her new family.
