Name: Kentucky Best Guess for Breed: Pointer and lab mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years 6 mos as of February 2024 Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 51 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids. Kentucky is a bit too interested in his feline friends so a home without cats is best. Currently Living At: DC area foster home Special Adoption Considerations: Kentucky was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. What My Foster Says About Me: Overall, Kentucky is a very sweet, loving and good boy. He is very high energy, playful, a little clumsy and a giant goofball but he loves affection and attention, loves being outside, and loves being near me. He is still getting used to walking on leash. He is very food motivated and loves to play with toys - he has gotten along great with another dog in the home. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
