Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi, I’m Bash! I’m a 3-year-old Shih Tzu with a sweet and gentle soul. I might seem a bit shy at first—I like to take my time to warm up to new people and places. When I first arrived here, I felt safest in my crate and needed some space. Now, I like to hang out in the same room as my humans and feel much more at ease. I’m doing really well with my house training, especially when I’m kept on a schedule. My crate is my little safe haven, but I do prefer to sleep close to my people at night. I’ve recently discovered how much fun toys can be and love to play with other dogs. Treats are also pretty awesome, and spending time in the yard is one of my favorite things. Sometimes loud noises and busy places make me a little nervous, and I’m still getting the hang of leash walking. I might freeze up on walks, but with a bit of patience, I’m slowly building my confidence. I’d love a fenced yard so I can feel free and safe while I explore. There’s a playful, happy dog inside of me, and I know that with time, love, and trust, my true personality will shine even more. I even do a little dance when I’m excited! I’m ready to find a family who understands that I just need a bit of patience and kindness to bring out my best self. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!       Hi, I’m Nick, a 10-month-old Shih Tzu puppy with a zest for life and a heart full of love! Weighing in at just 10 pounds, I’m the perfect size to follow you around (which I love to do!) and snuggle up for some cozy downtime. I’m always in a good mood and full of energy. Playing is my absolute favorite thing, whether it’s with chew toys, bones, fetch in the yard, or even soccer—I’m pretty athletic for my size! I live with two senior Shih Tzu foster siblings. While they’re not as into playtime as I am, I think they secretly love having me around. I also adore my foster kids. They’re great at keeping up with my energy, and when we’re done, I’m ready for cuddles on the couch. At night, I’ve got a cute habit of putting myself to bed—how’s that for adorable? I’m still learning the ropes with potty training, but having doggy role models is helping me improve every day. I’ve mastered my crate, though I might whimper just a little when I first settle in. I haven’t had much experience with leash training yet and can be a bit unsure, so a fenced yard is a must—I love the freedom to zoom around and explore safely. I’m a sweet, sociable pup who gets along with dogs of all sizes and loves kids. I haven’t met any cats yet, but I think I’d be willing to give it a shot. Oh, and you’ll be happy to know I’m not much of a barker—just the occasional whimper here and there. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate companion with a touch of athleticism and a lot of love to give, I’m your guy. I can’t wait to find my forever family—could it be you? *I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! P lease note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   This puppy requires an application fee. This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Starla is a confident, playful, and affectionate two year old, 16 pound Maltese-Shih Tzu mix with a heart full of love to give. Starla came into our rescue via another rescue in Iowa. It is thought that she was given up because she required hip surgery due to a previous injury, possibly being hit by a car. She’s adjusting well to her new foster home and is ready to find her forever family. Starla is confident, playful, and loving. She enjoys sitting on laps and is a true cuddle bug, always seeking close contact with her humans. Sleeping in bed with her family is heaven for her. She loves playing with other dogs and can be found whining trying to get her senior foster brother to play! Starla is an active girl who loves to play and engage with her family. She enjoys running around the yard and would thrive in a home where she can get plenty of exercise and stimulation. She does well with walks but is still learning proper leash manners. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to burn off some energy. Starla is doing great with house training but there may be some accidents as she adjusts to a new home. Starla knows a few commands like sit and stand. She’s very smart and quick to learn, making her a great candidate for further training. She would benefit from some behavioral training, but she is treat-motivated and eager to please. Starla would thrive in an active home, preferably with a family who enjoys outdoor activities. She will do well in a home with children over the age of ten who have had experience interacting with a small dog. She gets along well with other dogs and would love a small canine companion who has a similar energy level. Starla recently had successful hip surgery (femoral head and neck excision) and is recovering well. While she’s already bouncing around more than she should, she requires at-home therapy to support her recovery and won’t be available for adoption until the first week in February. But applications for her adoption are being accepted now. Depending on her stage of recovery, her new family may need to continue performing some in-home therapy after adoption. These are the requirements for Starla’s new home: · Starla needs a family who can provide her with plenty of daily exercise and playtime, including long walks. A secure fenced yard would be ideal. · A family who is home much of the day and will include Starla in their daily activities. · Starla recently had hip surgery and her new family may need to continue with in-home therapy for a while after her adoption. It is imperative that her new family commit to doing so. · A family with children over the age of ten who have had experience with a small dog will be considered. · Starla would enjoy another small playful dog in the family, but it is not a deal breaker. · Starla loves to cuddle and be near her people, and sleeping in bed at night with her family members is a must. · Hew new family should live within 30 miles of Roseville, MN and be willing to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion every September. Starla is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She may need to complete at-home therapy after her adoption depending on the healing of her hip and her new family must agree to do required exercises. Her adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 in sales tax, for a total cost of $455.81. To meet Starla, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Are you looking for a best friend? A sweet dog, that is adorable and just a little bit shy? If you are, I am your girl! My name is Daisy Mae. I am 5 years old, and weigh 8 pounds. Everyone thinks I am cute as I always wag my tail and will roll over for a tummy rub once I know you. Daisy came to our rescue after her owner passed away after a serious illness. This past year, Daisy spent all her time inside and had to rely exclusively on potty pads. Her foster mom is now frequently taking her outside for potty and Daisy is doing a well at learning to go “potty outside”. Daisy had a very sheltered but loving home before she came into rescue. Now she needs to learn to enjoy walks and outside activities, and to socialize with people and other dogs. Her future family must commit to providing time for Daisy’s outside experiences and socialization. Daisy is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you all is well and she is very happy. Sitting by you on the couch or sleeping at the foot of your bed are Daisy’s favorite past times. Daisy has really benefited from having another small, calm dog in her foster home. So her foster mom is looking for a home that will give her a canine friend as a companion and to also help Daisy learn how to be a more confident dog. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults only. Daisy will be adopted to a family within the Twin Cities area, no more than 40 miles from Burnsville, MN. Daisy is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that are required for her new family: • Daisy needs a family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization. This means time devoted to her socialization/training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and belly rubs. • Daisy’s new home should include another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. • An adults only family that works from home or is home much of the day would be best for Daisy. • Daisy is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day, although she can does not require this overnight. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to be near you! Daisy is not crate trained, but does just fine in a gated area when family is gone. • Daisy’s new family should live within 40 miles of Burnsville, MN and commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand there are quite a few requirements for Daisy’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this beautiful girl. Daisy just had a dental, is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $320.00 plus $27.28 in sales tax for a total of $347.28. To meet Daisy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Meet Addie (Addison) - a pint-sized bundle of happiness! This 9-pound female Shih Tzu is proof that the sweetest things come in small packages. Despite being small in stature and with the littlest legs, she zooms around her foster parents’ house like she's training for the Olympics. At 4 years young, she's well educated in some important indoor manners. Addie is working on her housetraining, but she has a PhD in Professional Cuddling as well as a Master's degree in Belly Rub Appreciation. She has a sweet personality and beautiful black and silver coat. Some of her favorite activities include sleeping on the couch while you watch your favorite show and gazing out the window. Addie also loves to explore the backyard but hasn't quite figured out what to do on a leash. She rides in a car very well and gets along with other small dogs, cats and well-behaved older children. Addie was previously owned by a breeder and has had some puppies. Although she can be a little shy at first, she is well socialized and warms up very quickly. If you are looking for a compact companion who is equal parts affectionate and silly - she's the one! The following are requirements for Addie’s future family: 1. An adults only home were someone is home much of the day. Applications will be considered if there are children in the home over the age of ten and if they have had previous experience in gently interacting with small dogs. 2. A family who is patient and will continue Addie’s house training and leash training and will expose her to new dog-appropriate experiences. 3. Provide Addie with plenty of daily exercise and stimulation, including walks and supervised time in the yard. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 4. A home with another small dog would fine, but she would also love to be the sole focus of the family. 5. Live within an hour’s drive of Minneapolis, MN. 6. Agree to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Addie is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She does have a cataract and retina detachment in her RIGHT eye, has lost vision in that eye, and the vision cannot be restored. Even though she has no sight in the eye, she requires daily drops in the eye to prevent future glaucoma. She will be having retinopexy surgery on her LEFT eye on January 29th to help ensure that the retina in her remaining good eye does not become detached. Addie will be available for adoption approximately one week after her eye surgery. Her adoption fee is $370.00 plus $31.54 sales tax for a total of $401.54. To meet Addie, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. Story
Sadie is 5 years old and weighs 11 lbs. She is white and red in color. Sadie is up to date on vaccines and is spayed and just recently had a dental and just finished all her meds.   She has been dealing with alopecia, but it is under control and now has no hair loss.  You will need to continue giving her Omega 3 and a healthy diet.  If there’s a reoccurrence of hair loss she may need to see a vet dermatologist. Sadie is a sweet little girl.  She’s very loving and scared at the same time as she came from a mill.  She snuggles up to her foster at bed time and needs to be close. She gets along with her pups and isn’t aggressive at all.   Her personality is just now coming out, she gets so excited when she sees her foster  and when it’s time to eat and at snack time.   When she wags her tail her whole bottom wiggles, so cute.     She will follow you around when outside and keep a close eye on you.  Sadie isn’t fully house trained, she loves to mark, but since her spay, it has reduced.  In the house we still use doggy diapers.  She’s still learning the word NO.  More training will be required, along with leash training.   She loves to be called a good girl. She gobbles her food, and tends to throw it up afterwards, so until she slows down on her own, she will need a Slow-Feed Dog Bowl.   The perfect home for Sadie;      Someone who will enjoy her as much as she will enjoy you.  Preferably someone who is home a lot.  No small children but older is fine.   An established dog in home to help teach her how to continue to be a dog.  She watches her fosters dogs and catches on fast, but she is still adjusting to a home and humans.    A calm home is best.  She loves to sleep in bed, a crate is not recommended     Sadie will feel more comfortable sleeping in your bed.  She doesn’t like to be alone.  We have enjoyed and love fostering her.     If you think Sadie might be the perfect fit for you, please apply!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 1, 2024, 5:42 pm
