In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Billy is an awesome, 11 pound, Shih Tzu/Bichon mix who impresses his foster mom more and more every day! He was born May 5, 2023 and lived his life in a wire cage in a puppy mill. He has never experienced the life of a happy, free dog until now. He was purchased from the puppy mill, but in that home he was bullied and terrorized by a large dog. So they left Billy alone in a separate small enclosed room. Consequently his fears magnified and he became even more afraid and timid. He paced for hours at a time. That family had him for only two weeks before giving him to our rescue. But he is now experiencing a wonderful transformation! He has discovered love and freedom. Billy is cautious but very curious as he explores his foster home. He has found toys, and he just loves toys of all kinds! They have become his pacifiers and he often is found nestled amongst them, and chewing on several! He loves sleeping through the night with his foster mom, and also cuddling next to her on the couch. His potty training is a work in progress. It has been difficult because he does not want to stay outside long enough do completely do his business, especially because it’s so cold right now. But he shows promise and will improve as the temperatures warm. Billy loves to run and be free in a fenced yard as he has lots of energy. He is a young dog and will need lots of exercise! He walks well on a leash, so long walks will be a great benefit in warmer weather. Because he is just now experiencing the joys of being uncaged, we feel that his puppyhood is just now materializing. He loves to chew on most anything, he is high energy and loves to run, he is very playful, and very agile. He is also the sweetest boy you will ever find, and soaks up love and attention now that he finally knows what they are! Billy will wander over to you and look at you with his beautiful brown eyes asking to be on your lap, to be petted, and cuddled close. He does enjoy riding in the car. Even though Billy has lots of energy, he is still a timid boy who is fearful of loud, strange noises, and sudden movements and he startles easily. Here are the specifics of what his foster mom is requiring from an adopter. If you meet these requirements, please apply; and if you are lucky enough to adopt him, he will bring you great love, and joy! Billy will make you laugh all day long and sleep cuddled up to you all night! · Because Billy is a very young dog and can live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life. · A quiet adults only home. He does not do well with lots of noise or activity or people coming and going. · A home where someone will be with him most of the day—he can be alone for a couple hours at a time, but not much longer, especially while he is being potty trained. Enrolling Billy in a puppy class and introducing him to new, safe situations would also help him gain confidence and form a stronger bond with his family. · Absolutely no kenneling or locking him in a small room alone—he had way too much of that already and it causes him emotional trauma. · A fenced yard where he can run and play and exercise like a puppy. His adopter must be out in the yard with him for playing and as reassurance to him that he will not be left alone or abandoned. · Billy would do well as an only dog, but could also live with another SMALL, gentle well behaved dog in the family. · A family who will allow Billy to sleep with them. · A home within 40 miles of the Twin Cities. · Billy’s new family is strongly encouraged to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion each year in September. Billy is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 sales tax for a total of $455.81. To meet Billy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Story
Meet Boo Boo!Boo Boo is an adorable puppy who’s ready to shower his forever family with love. He’s a playful little guy who thrives on companionship and gets along great with other dogs. Boo Boo would do best in a home where his humans are around most of the time and where he has a doggie friend to play with. Boo Boo’s journey with Angel of Hope began at just 5 weeks old when he was brought to an emergency clinic. Born with a birth defect that required surgery to help him poop normally, Boo Boo is now thriving! He munches on dry puppy food throughout the day and loves treats!  Great motivation for training!  Boo Boo is also on a small daily dose of lactulose (a stool softener) to keep things moving smoothly. Don’t worry—we’ll send a bottle home with him! Boo Boo is a happy, loving pup who adores people, toys, and other dogs. He’s still figuring out why the resident cat doesn’t share his enthusiasm for playtime, but his good-natured spirit can’t be dampened. If you’re looking for a fun, loving companion who’ll bring endless joy to your life, Boo Boo is your guy! ##2196335##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Roamer came to the shelter as an owner surrender. He's a 5 year old mix of shih tzu, poodle, and maybe some bichon. He has a somewhat thick, curly coat that will require regular grooming and he did come to us needing a bit of a haircut. Roamer is a friendly guy who is a little freaked out right now by the big change in his life. It's totally understandable. He will be vet checked and neutered on Jan. 23rd and his fee is $150. Roamer is looking for a home in which he won't be left alone too long. He has done well with other dogs of similar size and cats, too. He should be okay around kids over 5 years old. A potential adopter should be prepared for the grooming that he'll require. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Keep an eye on your emails if you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 22, 2025, 5:19 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Camila came to shelter as an owner surrender. She will be 2 years old in May and was born to a chihuahua mother and a shih tzu/poodle type mix father. Her appearance kind of reminds us of a Maltese, though. She came in with her dad Roamer but we aren't requiring that they be adopted together. Camila is a sweet and loving girl who will require regular grooming. We will need to get her vet checked and spayed and her fee is $150. Camila has done okay with dogs of similar size and cats, too. We do think she would do best in a home in which she is not left alone for long hours. She should be okay with kids over 5 years old. Meet Beethoven! He is a handsome, 11 pound, cream and gold, sweet Shih Tzu boy who was born on March 9, 2024. Beethoven was raised by a breeder in a home with other Shih Tzus. He is a bit timid and slow to warm up and trust, and will need someone who has patience and understanding while he transitions to his forever home. But once he gets to know you, he loves your attention and affection, playing with toys, and enjoys running outside in a fenced yard playing with other small dogs. He also gets along with cats. Because he is still very much a puppy, he needs some basic puppy training. The following are requirements for Beethoven’s future family: 1. Because Beethoven is less than a year old and Shih Tzus often live 16+ years, applications will only be accepted from age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life. 2. An adults only home where someone is home much of the day. Applications will be considered if there are children in the home over the age of ten and if they have had previous experience in gently interacting with small dogs. 3. A family who is patient and will continue Beethoven’s training. Enrolling him in a basic puppy class would benefit him as well as his future family. 4. Provide Beethoven with plenty of daily exercise and stimulation, including walks and supervised time in the yard. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 5. A home with another small dog who could help mentor Beethoven would be great, but he would also love to be the sole focus of the family. 6. Live within an hour’s drive of Minneapolis, MN. 7. Agree to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Beethoven is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $470.00 plus $ 40.07 sales tax for a total of $510.07. To meet Beethoven, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Princess,      Sweet, gentle, and full of potential, she is a loving soul looking for a calm, understanding home where she can truly flourish. After spending most of her life as a breeder (aka #03, which will forever be tattooed inside her ear), she is still learning what it means to be a pet. However, her tail is constantly wagging, her heart is pure, and her loyalty is unwavering.        Princess is not house trained, does not know how to handle stairs, and is scared of being on the leash...things that were never taught to her before coming into rescue. But, day by day, we are making small progress. Her quiet nature and sweet demeanor make for a wonderful companion for someone willing to give her the time and patience to learn all of this.       While Princess does live with other dogs and cats (she does great with both) she can at times get a little overwhelmed in which she will retreat to her "safe space" (her dog bed). She would do best in a peaceful household, ideally with someone who can build a close, trusting bond with her. In return, she will reward you with endless affection and gratitude as she discovers the joys of a loving home.      If you are looking for a gentle, super low-key companion to grow with then Princess might just be the perfect match for you!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application.  Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet!  A home visit is required prior to adoption.  Thank you for choosing to adopt! Breed and temperament determination:  Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue attempts to determine breed and temperament using a combination of looks, information provided to us at intake, and our experience with the animal while in our Rescue.  We do not guarantee this determination.
