Meet Hershey! Purebred Shih Tzu. Hershey LOVES everyone he meets and loves kids even more and is partial to men, but still adores all he meets. He turned 1 on May 20, 2024. He gets along well with other dogs. Mostly house trained, but that can change from home to home so be prepared to work on this. He doesn’t chew on anything except his toys, but if you give him a toy with stuffing, he will tear it to pieces. He loves to sleep in the bed, but will sleep on a dog bed too. Lovessss his pup cups.

I adopted Kato when he was 8 weeks old. He is the best dog. He loves daily walks. He is great with children. He has never had a vet issue. He needs to be rehomed because he does not get along with our other dog. He has been showing aggression to him and it is not safe for either pet. Kato needs to be picked up when introduced to strangers as he has bitten someone before. He was off leash (not when I had him he was at a sitter) and attacked a man walking into the sitters apartment. When he is picked up and introduced to people he is just fine and then prefers them over others! He loves getting to know people once I say it is ok. I cannot see him going into a shelter so this is my last resort of finding a good family. He should have a yard and be the only dog.

One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you. Molly Mae and Snicker Doodle came in together when their owner went into assisted living. Her owner loved them dearly. If they don't get adopted together, they would at least love another playmate in the home. Molly Mae is 10 years old. She is still full of playfulness, and she LOVES her humans. She is quiet and gentle. Molly lives with other dogs and a cat. She is leash trained and kennel trained but is usually just left loose in the house. Snicker Doodle (age 7) and Molly Mae (age 10) were surrendered to rescue when their owner went to assisted living. Their owner loved them very much. If they are not adopted together, they at least would love a playmate. Snicker is very playful with other dogs. Snicker loves everyone. She lives with a cat and dogs. She is an alert barker and will bark when hearing things outside in the yard or in the house. You will need to keep this in mind if you live in an apartment. Snicker Doodle is afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. She was trained to use potty pads but at her foster home she has learned to use the doggie door and the stairs. Roxy is an adorable little teddy bear, a mix of Bichon, Shih Tzu, and Maltese. She weighs 13 lbs, is 3 years old, and lost her home because her owners moved and had a baby. She had to be shaved down due to severe matting, but her fur will grow back cute. Roxy is a charismatic, playful girl who loves to play with other dogs. She is a love bug and will shower you with kisses. She walks well on a leash and is potty trained. She enjoys laying in her open kennel and will tell you when it's time to go to bed. She acclimated to the foster home very quickly and would love a home with someone who is home a lot and will enjoy her company. Apply to adopt at www.campcompanion.org.
