Story
We did Brownie's DNA! He's about half cattle dog and the next biggest result was Boxer but he is mixed with many other breeds. Brownie is a sweet, energetic and spunky guy who had a rough start in life. He loves affection and is a good boy. He was found as a stray in Bonne Terre and got picked up by animal control, which is just a shed. We believe Brownie would do best in a more quiet home with older or no kids and an active owner that would spoil him and give him the life he deserves. Brownie will need a fence as he has a high prey drive and loves to chase the yard critters. If there are other dogs in the home they should be about his size or bigger. He loves to play with the other dogs. He has been introduced to the dog savvy catin the house and they get along okay.We only adopt to people in the St. Louis METRO area. Please see our Adoption Policies here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TZjrOP29mqXvcHEC3zPaKXXnS80LaVGMA45Lc0-Z2MI/edit?usp=sharingInformation about the rescue and adoption process can also be found at www.stlpetrescue.com along with a full listing of our adoptable pets. Our adoption fees:Cats range from $150 to $175. Exotic breeds may be more. Dogs range from $250 to $350. High demand puppies and small dogs may be more. This fee includes: felv/fiv/heartworm testing, worming, flea and ear mite treatments, age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, lab work, dental or other medical or surgical treatments as deemed necessary by our team of veterinarians and a microchip with free registration.

Story
Reba’s adoption fee is completely sponsored for an approved application!   A Little About Reba:   Reba is an absolute gem! At just 8 months old and around 30lbs, she has already overcome so much. After being hit by a car at just 5 months old, she spent 3 months in rehab for a broken leg. We were so happy she was finally ready to find a home when unfortunately, she had a very light heartworm diagnosis. Now she is finally done with her heartworm treatment and Reba is100% ready for a new start! She has waited far too long for her family and we can’t wait to see her thrive in a loving home! Reba is a social butterfly who adores playing with her dog friends and going for long walks, she is still working on her potty training but improving and we feel with structure she will be 100%. She’s a pro at car rides and absolutely loves curling up for cuddles with her foster mom at night. Her playful spirit and affectionate nature make her a joy to be around! Reba would thrive in a family that’s active or has another playful dog to keep her company.    Are you ready to open your heart and home to this incredible pup?   Apply onlineMarch 10, 2025, 10:03 am

Story
Hi there! I'm BiBo, a 1 year old Heeler mix with tons of love to share! I'm a sweet and happy girl that was found wandering, but luckily someone swooped in and offered to help me out! I'm living with a foster now and he says I am a good girl. I've got a great little personality and would love to be someone's furever friend. I do good with other dogs and love to play. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2130401##
