Story
Fanny is a playful purebred Mini Australian Shepherd we got from a pet store last May. A week later, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. After a couple of months on antibiotics and rest, she fully recovered and has a clean bill of health, with vet records to prove it. Fanny loves belly rubs, playing with our toddler and cats, zoomies in the backyard, and walks. She isn’t potty trained yet due to her rough start and an unexpected promotion I received two months after getting her, which has required frequent travel since summer. Juggling work, a toddler, and a puppy has been too much for me. We care deeply about her and are committed to finding the perfect home. If you’re an active family with a fenced yard and experience training puppies, we’d love to hear from you!

Story
Meet Penny Formerly Known as Porsia: Ready for Her Forever Home! Hi, I'm Penny! I'm just over 1 year old, around 40 pounds, and I recently made my way up from Texas with my adorable puppies. I was a great mama, but now that my pups are weaned, it's my turn to find a forever family to call my own! I may be part Australian Shepherd or Kelpie—whatever my mix, one thing's for sure: I'm stunning! With one blue eye and one brown eye, I’m quite the head-turner. In my foster home, I live with kids and another dog, and I absolutely love them both. I’m still young, so sometimes I get a little too excited and jump up, but my foster family is helping me work on that. I'm doing great with potty training—when I go outside, I do my business right away. I love toys and playing fetch! I’ll bring the ball back to you every time, ready for another throw. I’m also super affectionate; I enjoy giving kisses and cuddling up on the couch. At night and during the day when my foster family is out, I rest in my crate. I might whine for a couple of minutes when I first go in, but I quickly settle down and sleep peacefully through the night. I’d love to find a family of my own—hopefully just in time for the holidays. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and beautiful companion, I’m your girl. Let’s make this season one to remember. Ready to meet Penny? Fill out an application and make her dream of a forever home come true! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Meet Shelby – The Sweet and Playful Pup Ready for His Forever Home! Shelby is a 9-week-old mix breed puppy with a stunning sable coat and captivating eyes that look almost too perfect to be real—but they are! Weighing 13 pounds, Shelby is ready to bring joy and energy to a loving family. Shelby’s Journey: Born on Halloween, Shelby and his siblings had a challenging start to life. Their young mom, a stray in Texas, struggled to care for her pups while scavenging for scraps to survive. Thankfully, a kind-hearted rescuer brought the family to a shelter, and Safe Haven arranged for them to travel to Illinois at just nine days old. After 8 weeks of care in a nurturing foster home, Shelby is now ready to find a family of his own. About Shelby: Shelby is the perfect combination of playful energy and laid-back affection. He loves romping around during playtime and has already started to learn fetch, showing promise as a future “outfielder”! When it’s time to relax, he’s just as happy curling up in your lap for a cozy nap or finding a quiet spot to rest on his own. Like any young puppy, Shelby is still learning the ropes of house manners. He’s started using pee pads but isn’t fully potty trained yet. Crate and leash training are also works in progress. Socialization and Personality: Shelby hasn’t met a stranger yet—his friendly nature makes him a hit with everyone he meets. He’s been well-socialized in his foster home, living with three other dogs of various sizes and ages, and he loves playing and learning from them. Shelby is gentle in his interactions, making him a great fit for families with kids. The Perfect Home for Shelby: Shelby would thrive in a home where he has plenty of companionship, whether from kids, adults, or another dog. He’s an adaptable pup who enjoys both active playtime and quiet moments. At 9 weeks old and 13 pounds, Shelby is expected to grow into a large-sized dog, making him a great fit for families or couples with room in their hearts and homes for a lovable, energetic companion. If Shelby sounds like the perfect addition to your family, don’t wait—send in your application to Safe Haven today. Puppies as sweet and charming as Shelby won’t be available for long! A Quick Reminder: Puppies require time, patience, and care as they grow and learn. With positive reinforcement and consistency, Shelby will blossom into a loyal, well-adjusted member of your family. Are you ready to welcome Shelby into your life? Apply now! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Meet Aston – Your Future Snuggle Buddy and Playmate! Age: 9 weeks Weight: 12 pounds Breed: Herding Mix Hi there! I’m Aston, a sweet and laid-back puppy searching for my perfect forever family. Could that be you? My Story: I’ve had a rough start in life. My siblings and I were born on Halloween on the streets of Texas. Our mom, barely more than a puppy herself, was underweight and struggled to survive on scraps. Thankfully, a kind lady found us shortly after we were born and brought us to a shelter. From there, Safe Haven stepped in, and at just nine days old, we made the journey to Illinois. For the past 8 weeks, my foster family has taken wonderful care of me, and now I’m ready to find my forever home. About Me: I’m the more laid-back sibling in my litter but still have the energy and playfulness you’d expect from a puppy. I love to play fetch, tug-of-war, or just enjoy a good snuggle session. My foster mom says my chocolate brown eyes are my secret weapon for winning hearts! What I’m Working On: Potty Training: I’m using pee pads in my foster home but will need help mastering potty training. Crate and Leash Training: I haven’t started crate or leash training yet, but I’m ready to learn with your guidance. The Perfect Home for Me: Kids: I’d love to be part of a family with children. I enjoy snuggles, tail-wagging greetings, and gentle playtime. Other Dogs: I’d do great in a home with another dog. My foster home has three dogs of different sizes and ages, and I love learning from them. Active Lifestyle: While I’m laid-back compared to my siblings, I still enjoy playtime and would thrive with a family that gives me fun activities and love. Why I’m Special: At 9 weeks old and 12 pounds, my foster mom thinks I’ll grow to be a large medium-sized dog. I’ve got a calm and loving personality, and I’m eager to please. I’ll be the perfect addition to a family that’s ready to help me learn and grow into a wonderful companion. A Gentle Reminder: Puppies like me need someone who’s patient, caring, and willing to invest time in training and socialization. Positive reinforcement, consistency, and patience are the keys to raising a happy, well-adjusted pup. If I sound like the perfect match for your family, don’t wait! Send your application to Safe Haven today—I can’t wait to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . Story
Koda spent his puppyhood living in his crate. Because of this he has a hard time learning not to potty inside the house, we learned to work around it with a doggie diaper! He is a VERY smart boy who knows a lot of commands such as sit, stay and bang! And because he is SO smart we believe whoever opens their home to him could break him of this habit. Koda is a very hot natured dog and LOVES to be outside! Have a lot of land?! Are you looking for a pup to roam it and keep away those pesky squirrels?! Koda is the boy you’ve been looking for! Story
Scout is a super handsome, energetic 18 month old Australian Sheppard mix from a rescue, smart as a whip and can figure out any puzzle. He does great with long walks and really enjoys the outdoors. Scout will be successful with a large fenced yard or ranch, no children and possibly a second dog to keep his mind ever active. Scout's new owner must be experienced as he has an inclination to show reactivity and resource guarding his owner. He has anxiety that is at the root of this behavior and takes medication to help with this. His breed is mostly Australian Sheppard, with DNA also showing American Pit Bull and Chow Chow and will be an excellent herding dog.
