Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Midnight's journey has been a challenging one; she was attacked by a dog, which left her with nerve damage and incontinence. Her tail had to be amputated, and she was sent to Black Cat Rescue to heal. Despite the hardships she has faced, Midnight has shown remarkable resilience and strength. With the care and support of her foster human, she has made incredible progress. Her incontinence is now manageable with the help of a diaper, and she has adapted to her new circumstances with grace and determination. Midnight is now ready for her next chapter, a loving home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves. She is a sweet and affectionate cat, with a playful spirit that shines bright. She even still likes dogs!! All she needs is a chance to show you the love and joy she has to offer. Please consider opening your heart and home to Midnight. She has so much love to give and is ready to become a cherished member of your family. Together, we can give Midnight the happy ending she deserves. Here's what her foster human has to say about Midnight: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Midnight is very outgoing and active.  She thinks the world is her oyster.  She doesn't hide, even when first entering a space (including the NBC studios). Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?   Midnight loves being petted.  She often stretches up and puts her legs on my knees when I'm sitting so I can rub her head and ears.     Also, if I rub her backside briskly, just above her tail, she will pee or poop if she has something  ready to go.  Recently, she's been volunteering to stand in the catbox for this, which is really helpful. . Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?   Don't pet her backside above the tail if you don't want her to pee or poop.  Also, she is such an active cat that she sometimes won't stand still long enough to be petted, but we still get lots of pets in.   Does the cat come on your lap?     Does the cat like to be held? She wants to come up on my lap and she doesn't mind being held, but we are limited by the fact that she may pee or poop on me.  Sometimes I put a cloth on my lap so we can cuddle.  She also likes to climb up on my shoulders when I'm sitting in the kitchen.   Does the cat sleep in your bed?   I'll bet she would if I could let her. Does the cat seek your attention? Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Midnight absolutely loves attention, either from people or other pets and is always up for playing.  She loves her pole toy and anything that she can bat around on the floor.  She also likes batting at Arvid the dog (who doesn't seem to mind). How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make?   Midnight isn't a big talker and doesn't cry to get through doors, etc. but she has a very cute little meow when she wants to tell me something. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain   Yes, Midnight likes both her cardboard scratcher and to get a long scratch in anytime that she can get to the flat-weave rugs (when she escapes into the livingroom). . Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. Midnight likes the catbox and will go in and 'pretend' to poop, then scratch around in the litter.  She does occasionally get a poop in the box but as often as not her poops will end up elsewhere.  She doesn't seem to be able to push them out voluntarily without help.     That being said, as I mentioned before, she will poop and pee if I rub her tail end and she is starting to volunteer to do that.  I'm guessing that she is more comfortable with the poops out and appreciates the help.  This is a change from a few months ago when she often wouldn't stand still to have me rub her tail end and make her poop.     I've been making sure she has plenty of time to run around and get exercise on the theory that that will help her to strengthen her back end and perhaps help with the poop coordination.  (She does a lot of running and jumping around now that we've figured out how to poop-proof larger areas of the house. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food?   I've been feeding Midnight Royal Canin dental food (Dr. Leavey recommended that for another cat to keep weight in line).  I feed about 3/4 cups per day - sometimes I put out more and she seems to self-regulate her intake. What is the cat's favorite treat? Pretty much anything - I give her freeze-dried salmon or any dry cat treats that we have on hand.  She also likes the pate treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?   Midnight likes to play and will swat at me and Arvid for fun.     Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?   Midnight rarely scratches but has clawed me when she is very anxious (at the cat event) or when I tried to get her into a diaper when she had already told me no.  That said, she doesn't scratch me or complain even when I have to put her back into her part of the house after an escape to the livingroom. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she hasn't nipped or bitten me. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?   Midnight is super friendly with anyone who comes to visit and was either friendly or tolerant with everybody on her outings, except when she'd really had enough at the Boston cat event.  She loves playing with my dog and me and tried to befriend Hugo, my friend's cat who came to stay with us (in his own segregated part of the house)   I think Midnight would love living in a home with other pets, especially if she doesn't recover the ability to reliably use the catbox and so can't sit on laps or sleep with people. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?   As mentioned, Midnight is about the most outgoing, social cat I've ever met.  Also, she is really soft and super plush which isn't really a trait, but makes her very pretty and really enjoyable to pet. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?   If Midnight could use the catbox reliably, she would be just about perfect.  Only people who don't want a cat who is super friendly and interactive should steer away.   Just a guess, but she might be quite dominant in a multi-cat household - she is not at all shy around other cats. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?   Her challenge is just the obvious one.  We have to cover everything with cloths and pads to manage her pee/poop.     I still hope that she will recover her catbox skills, but she might not.  Things have definitely gotten easier over time, but that is partly because I'm getting better at Midnight-proofing the areas she has access to.  That said, she is offering a glimmer of hope so, fingers crossed! Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston All about Boots from her foster home! Boots is a gem of a cat who wants nothing more in life than to be by your side! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! She’s loves being pet! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? All over, but she especially loves chin scratches. She will give you kisses too! Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn’t like getting her nails clipped. Does the cat come on your lap? Not exactly. She's more of a lean against you affectionately kind of girl. Does the cat like to be held? She tolerates being picked up with no issue. She's incredibly easy to put in a carrier. I think she prefers to be next to you/leaning against you than to be wrapped up your arms but she tolerates it like a champ. She's really very agreeable. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes! That is her preferred mode of sleeping so will need to be allowed to sleep in you bed too. She's a great bed buddy and sits quietly throughout the night. Does the cat seek your attention? Most definitely. Because there are resident cats in her Foster home, Boots is being fostered in a separate room. She will meow for attention if she gets lonely. If you are in the room with her, she will come over to where you are and settle in beside you.  Does the cat like to play? She really likes catnip toys. She likes to paw at your pen while you write. She has a feather toy that wobbles and pops back up that she likes. And she likes a particular wand toy that she can take to her new home with her. How vocal is the cat? She is a vocal gal who lets you know she wants your attention. She has kind of a loud raspy meow.  What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She meows and purrs. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. Does the cat always use the litter box? Always, never any issues. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Never. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Never. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Very social - she LOVES humans. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She sleeps sometimes with her face down in the blankets in the "faceplant" position. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She is just the sweetest, most easygoing girl. She'll be a loyal companion and a great WFH buddy.  What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? She absolutely doesn’t get along with cats or dogs. We tried on multiple occasions to introduce her to our resident cats and each time it was a failure. Therefore, we had to keep her in a separate room, which is not ideal since she is so social with people. We know Boots will be so much happier in a home with no other pets and person of her own. Boots has hyperthyroidism and gets medication rubbed into her inner ear 2x per day. She's a great patient and makes the process a breeze. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston All about Ronald and Harry from their foster home! How would you describe the cat's general personality? They are very sweet 8-month old boys - Harry (tuxedo) and Ronald (orange tabby). They will take a couple of days to warm up to you and come out of their shells but once they do they are lovely. They enjoy human interaction, playing and showing off their cuteness. They are definitely a bonded pair and love each other! They seem to need a female lead caretaker as they have shown aversion to males in the past (not yet tested with us). Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, both enjoy being pet. Ronald especially will purr when receiving attention. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? The usual places - head, face, chin, back. Harry likes to be petted on his tummy too and will roll on his side for you. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? None found yet but haven't tried playing with their paws or rubbing Ronald's tummy. Does the cat come on your lap? Harry will jump up on your lap for attention. He'll stay for a few minutes and then jump down. Ron can be picked up and put on your lap but jumps down pretty quickly - he prefers to be petted when on the ground. Does the cat like to be held? We can pick both boys up very easily but neither seem to like being held and will wriggle to get down. Does the cat sleep in your bed? They have not had the opportunity as they are staying in a separate room. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, both will come over for pets. They often greet us at the door to their foster room. They are more wanting attention in the mornings than evenings - in the evenings they will sometimes stay where they are and then sleepily get up and come over for attention/play after a bit.  Does the cat like to play? Yes, both like to play!  What are the cat's favorite games and toys? They enjoy interaction with a wand ribbon toy. They also play with kick toys together on their own. How vocal is the cat? Both are pretty quiet, but will meow when seeking attention.  What kinds of sounds does the cat make?  They will occasionally softly meow for attention. Ronald has a loud-ish purr. They will sometimes make a trill sound to express that they are having fun. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, vertical scratchers, especially Harry. They will also scratch at furniture and need to be redirected at times. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, perfectly and very tidy. If no, please explain. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They eat 3/4 cup dried food between them twice a day and half of a big can of wet food once a day. Is the cat picky about food?  They prefer dry food over wet. We've been giving them some ocean fish flavored wet food and they will eat that if there are no kibbles available. What is the cat's favorite treat? Haven't tried treats with them yet. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Ronald nips while being petted (and purring). Harry does not. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? We introduced them to two female friends and they were able to be petted straight away and also engaged in play after a while. Harry is a bit braver than Ronald. Have not tried introducing them to men yet. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Harry has an adorable smudge on his nose and Ronald is beautiful! They like to sniff anything you bring into their space - very inquisitive! In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? They are a very sweet bonded pair and whoever adopts them will be very lucky! They compliment each other very well! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? They are initially shy in a new environment. Harry hid for the first evening, then came forward for playtime and then pets. Ronald took two days before coming out of hiding. Within a week they were both no longer hiding at all, coming straight up for petting/play. Now Ronald is the more attention seeking of the two. A new owner will need to be patient initially and keep faith that their patience will be rewarded ten-fold by this adorable duo! Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston All about Hank from his foster home! How would you describe the cat's general personality? Hank is very sociable and very opinionated 5 year old boy! He wants to be the center of attention and keep his humans company all the time. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Most of the time, yes - sometimes he just wants to hang out nearby and not be touched. He's pretty good about letting you know with body language whether he'd like pets or just hangouts. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? He really enjoys getting his forehead and cheeks scratched, as well as his sides and back Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He doesn't like having his legs or feet touched very much Does the cat come on your lap? He will walk across my lap but doesn't settle there Does the cat like to be held? No - he really hates to be picked up Does the cat sleep in your bed? N/A (he's not allowed in my room)   Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, very much - any time I leave the house, when I get back he scolds me for leaving him alone! He likes to curl up on the couch next to me when I'm sitting there, or hop up onto the kitchen counter to try to help when I'm making dinner. Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? A little bit, but not much - he likes to scratch on cardboard scratchers and scratching posts, and he likes to paw at crinkly plastic. He doesn't seem very interested in chasing any toys, though. How vocal is the cat?  What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He is so very vocal! He makes very loud and authoritative MROW noises when he wants attention, or when he's meeting a new person or exploring a new place. He meows more quietly when he's trying to get attention from someone sitting near him. His most tragic meows are reserved for when doors are closed and he wants to go through them. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes - he also scratches the frames of closed doors and the arms of chairs. Does the cat always use the litter box? For the most part - he's a very long boy and sometimes slightly misses the inside of the box when peeing, so I think he needs an extra-long litter box. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? I'm currently feeding him one can of wet food (friskies, a mix of different types) and one scoop of dry food (purina naturals cat chow) per day Is the cat picky about food? Yes - he is not super food-motivated, so it can sometimes be tricky to get him to eat. He seems pretty indifferent to the wet food, so I started him on some dry food as well, and he's more excited about that.   What is the cat's favorite treat? He loves cold cuts, especially sliced turkey! Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes - he hates to be picked up, and swats when you try to scoop him up. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No   Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He is curious and also has to meow at them a whole bunch so they know who's boss. After a little while, he settles in almost as comfortably as he does with no visitors around! Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He's really curious, and likes to climb into boxes and bins and knock things over! He also eats wet food by putting his paw in the dish and then licking the food off his paw, which is kind of gross but VERY cute. He headbutts a lot to show affection, even more so than other cats do! In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Hank has a big personality and he's a great presence to have in the house. He's very pretty and he knows he's very important. He will hang out with you and keep you company and have whole drawn-out conversations with you on a daily basis. He's very affectionate, and is generally very good and loving company! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Hank is very loud, kind of messy, and a little neurotic. He really needs to be an only pet, and probably would do best in a household of adults - teens/older kids may also work out fine, but I don't think he'd get along well with babies or young children. I've found that figuring out what he needs (food, entertainment, etc) is pretty easy but finding the right thing to fill that need (food he wants to eat, games he wants to play, etc) is a little more complicated and as a result I think he'd thrive with someone who's home a lot and is able to take the time to puzzle out his quirks and preferences! Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston All about Pumas from his foster home! How would you describe the cat's general personality? Pumas is 2-year-old boy who overall is shy, but he's very smart and energetic and looking for someone who can give him a ton of safety and love. Does the cat enjoy being pet?  Yes.  If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?  He loves head and cheek scratches. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?  He doesn't seem to like belly touches, and his lower body can get overstimulated easily. Does the cat come on your lap?  No, not as of yet Does the cat like to be held?  He will tolerate it for short periods of time, but he doesn't seem to enjoy it. Does the cat sleep in your bed? No. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes. When he wants some, he will rub up against your legs and meow. Does the cat like to play? Yes. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He has enjoyed a mixture of everything. From little spring toys to kickers to wands. He loves to bat at his prey before pouncing and dealing the death blow. How vocal is the cat? He is pretty quiet unless he wants your attention.  Then he makes quiet little meows Does the cat scratch a scratcher? He has scratched scratchers a couple of times, but overall, he hasn't been particularly interested in them.  If no, please explain. He seems to like the fabric of the Ikea chair his favorite carrier/hiding spot much better than the cardboard scratchers. I haven't done much to redirect the behavior as of yet. Does the cat always use the litter box?  Yes, with one exception. If no, please explain. A few days after his neuter surgery, he went roaming and peed on the couch, most likely out of fear and insecurity. He hasn't done it since. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? He is fed dry food twice a day. He is very good at his puzzle feeder. I will start him on some more wet food as he gets more settled. Is the cat picky about food? Not particularly. He does like dry food over the wet food I've tried (Fancy Feast naturals pate), though. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes. When he gets worked up from attention seeking, he will swat. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes. He went through a lot of turmoil when I first took him in (I was his second foster in four days, and then he needed to go to the vet for surgery), and during that time, he was very scared and didn't want to make friends. He is also a young guy who is still getting comfortable with playing in my home, and he has scratched out of semi-controlled zoomie behavior and also play aggression. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?  Yes. He will work himself up into a frenzy and then nip out of instinct. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? I am going to try to get him more comfortable with strangers, but he seems to be inclined to hide underneath the bed as soon as something new and unfamiliar enters his life, including people. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? When he wants pets and attention, he will hop up onto his hind legs to beg for kisses on the head. He also loves to hang out in windows and watch the world go by.  In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? I think Pumas is a sweet cat with a lot of potential to really blossom when he gets really comfortable and settled. He has really come out of his shell once his life gained some stability in foster, and I think he will be extremely loving and loyal to his future forever family. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Pumas isn't the most confident cat, and it will take patience to earn his trust. Being able to read cat body language will also help. He also has a ton of energy that will have to be managed through play. Story
Wednesday is a purebred blue crème bi-color ragdoll, 10 years old, with the softest bunny fur. Willow is a blue bicolor ragdoll, 13 yrs old. I have had both since kittens, they have never had any littering issues, behavioral issues, or medical issues. They have been together 10 years and are bonded best friends (preference goes to someone who takes both). They both sleep a lot and are lower energy as they are older, but they are still very sharp. Wednesday is outgoing, talkative, likes to play with toys and will sometimes fetch. She likes sleeping on her humans Willow is super sweet, more independent and quiet. They have not adapted to a puppy in the house and the situation has grown worse, resulting in being segregated/hiding in a spare bedroom most of the day- only coming out at night. I hope for a better life for them. They would get along okay with a dog who was older/chill. Other cats have been fine, but Wednesday does tend to be dominant.
