MEET ALFREDO! Watch His VIdeo! This shy guy is not your average 10 month old kitten. Alfredo is still figuring out his relationship with people, and it could take him time to truly adjust to a new home setting. He has lived and is currently housed with other cats so a friendly, outgoing cat could really help him to adjust more quickly to his new environment. Alfredo has been working on his confidence with clicker training so, it would be great if he could continue this in his new home. With some recently acquired confidence, Alfredo has begun chirping at people he knows and playfully batting around toys during interactive play (see his video). For now, visits will be hands off. If you have a quiet, adult-only home that doesn`t get much foot traffic and are patient (undersocialized cat experience a real plus), please ask about meeting Alfredo. Alfredo is currently up to date on vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped, and examined by our vet team. For more information on Alfredo or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170 x604. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Midnight's journey has been a challenging one; she was attacked by a dog, which left her with nerve damage and incontinence. Her tail had to be amputated, and she was sent to Black Cat Rescue to heal. Despite the hardships she has faced, Midnight has shown remarkable resilience and strength. With the care and support of her foster human, she has made incredible progress. Her incontinence is now manageable with the help of a diaper, and she has adapted to her new circumstances with grace and determination. Midnight is now ready for her next chapter, a loving home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves. She is a sweet and affectionate cat, with a playful spirit that shines bright. She even still likes dogs!! All she needs is a chance to show you the love and joy she has to offer. Please consider opening your heart and home to Midnight. She has so much love to give and is ready to become a cherished member of your family. Together, we can give Midnight the happy ending she deserves. Here's what her foster human has to say about Midnight: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Midnight is very outgoing and active.  She thinks the world is her oyster.  She doesn't hide, even when first entering a space (including the NBC studios). Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?   Midnight loves being petted.  She often stretches up and puts her legs on my knees when I'm sitting so I can rub her head and ears.     Also, if I rub her backside briskly, just above her tail, she will pee or poop if she has something  ready to go.  Recently, she's been volunteering to stand in the catbox for this, which is really helpful. . Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?   Don't pet her backside above the tail if you don't want her to pee or poop.  Also, she is such an active cat that she sometimes won't stand still long enough to be petted, but we still get lots of pets in.   Does the cat come on your lap?     Does the cat like to be held? She wants to come up on my lap and she doesn't mind being held, but we are limited by the fact that she may pee or poop on me.  Sometimes I put a cloth on my lap so we can cuddle.  She also likes to climb up on my shoulders when I'm sitting in the kitchen.   Does the cat sleep in your bed?   I'll bet she would if I could let her. Does the cat seek your attention? Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Midnight absolutely loves attention, either from people or other pets and is always up for playing.  She loves her pole toy and anything that she can bat around on the floor.  She also likes batting at Arvid the dog (who doesn't seem to mind). How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make?   Midnight isn't a big talker and doesn't cry to get through doors, etc. but she has a very cute little meow when she wants to tell me something. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain   Yes, Midnight likes both her cardboard scratcher and to get a long scratch in anytime that she can get to the flat-weave rugs (when she escapes into the livingroom). . Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. Midnight likes the catbox and will go in and 'pretend' to poop, then scratch around in the litter.  She does occasionally get a poop in the box but as often as not her poops will end up elsewhere.  She doesn't seem to be able to push them out voluntarily without help.     That being said, as I mentioned before, she will poop and pee if I rub her tail end and she is starting to volunteer to do that.  I'm guessing that she is more comfortable with the poops out and appreciates the help.  This is a change from a few months ago when she often wouldn't stand still to have me rub her tail end and make her poop.     I've been making sure she has plenty of time to run around and get exercise on the theory that that will help her to strengthen her back end and perhaps help with the poop coordination.  (She does a lot of running and jumping around now that we've figured out how to poop-proof larger areas of the house. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food?   I've been feeding Midnight Royal Canin dental food (Dr. Leavey recommended that for another cat to keep weight in line).  I feed about 3/4 cups per day - sometimes I put out more and she seems to self-regulate her intake. What is the cat's favorite treat? Pretty much anything - I give her freeze-dried salmon or any dry cat treats that we have on hand.  She also likes the pate treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?   Midnight likes to play and will swat at me and Arvid for fun.     Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?   Midnight rarely scratches but has clawed me when she is very anxious (at the cat event) or when I tried to get her into a diaper when she had already told me no.  That said, she doesn't scratch me or complain even when I have to put her back into her part of the house after an escape to the livingroom. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she hasn't nipped or bitten me. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?   Midnight is super friendly with anyone who comes to visit and was either friendly or tolerant with everybody on her outings, except when she'd really had enough at the Boston cat event.  She loves playing with my dog and me and tried to befriend Hugo, my friend's cat who came to stay with us (in his own segregated part of the house)   I think Midnight would love living in a home with other pets, especially if she doesn't recover the ability to reliably use the catbox and so can't sit on laps or sleep with people. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?   As mentioned, Midnight is about the most outgoing, social cat I've ever met.  Also, she is really soft and super plush which isn't really a trait, but makes her very pretty and really enjoyable to pet. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?   If Midnight could use the catbox reliably, she would be just about perfect.  Only people who don't want a cat who is super friendly and interactive should steer away.   Just a guess, but she might be quite dominant in a multi-cat household - she is not at all shy around other cats. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?   Her challenge is just the obvious one.  We have to cover everything with cloths and pads to manage her pee/poop.     I still hope that she will recover her catbox skills, but she might not.  Things have definitely gotten easier over time, but that is partly because I'm getting better at Midnight-proofing the areas she has access to.  That said, she is offering a glimmer of hope so, fingers crossed! Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Young, Healthy, Playful! Meet Pumas! Please note that Pumas will do best with another feline friend at home.  Pumas is a shy but incredibly smart and affectionate 2-year-old cat who's ready to find a forever home filled with safety and love. Although he may be cautious at first, Pumas has shown his true personality as he's become more comfortable—he's energetic, playful, and has a ton of love to give. **Petting Preferences:**   Pumas loves head and cheek scratches but isn't a fan of belly touches, and his lower body can get overstimulated easily. **Lap Time & Cuddles:**   While Pumas isn't a lap cat just yet, he's made great progress in seeking out companionship. He enjoys curling up next to his foster on the couch, especially by their leg or hip. **Being Held:**   Pumas will tolerate being held for short periods but doesn't seem to enjoy it much. **Sleeping Arrangements:**   Pumas sometimes sleeps in bed with his foster but is still exploring his options. **Attention Seeking:**   When Pumas wants attention, he'll rub up against your legs, meow quietly, or even headbutt you for some petting. He's learning to ask for what he wants and enjoys the affection. **Playtime Fun:**   Pumas loves a variety of toys, especially the Cat Dancer. He's a skilled hunter when it comes to his toys, often batting at them before delivering the "final blow." He's also quite clever, quickly mastering puzzle feeders for treats.  Pumas may sometimes swat or nip when overstimulated so it's important that his adopter is aware of his body language and give him space when he needs it. **Quiet Companion:**   Pumas is generally quiet, only making small meows when he wants attention. **Scratching Behavior:**   Pumas has shown a preference for scratching on the fabric of an Ikea chair rather than using his scratchers. His new adopter may need to redirect this behavior. **Litter Box Habits:**   Pumas is litter box trained but had a couple of accidents after his neuter surgery and when introduced to another foster cat. These incidents were likely due to fear and insecurity. **Foodie:**   Pumas isn't picky about food but doesn't care for pate-textured wet food. He eats both wet and dry food twice a day and enjoys a variety of treats—just be sure to keep them out of reach, as he'll try to tear through the bags! **Challenges:**   Pumas can be a bit fearful and needs a patient adopter who understands cat body language. He also has a lot of energy that needs to be managed through regular play, ideally in a way that doesn't overstimulate him. **Why Pumas?**   Pumas has blossomed with stability and care in his foster home, and he has the potential to become an extremely loving and loyal companion. He also gets along well with other cats, though he might need help learning proper boundaries. If you're looking for a sweet, smart cat with a ton of energy and potential, Pumas could be the perfect addition to your home. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Meet Trish! Trish is a cautious but incredibly friendly 14 year old gal who's ready to find her forever home. Once she feels comfortable, her sweet and loving personality truly shines through. She's affectionate and enjoys being around her humans, making her a wonderful companion. **Petting Preferences:**   Trish loves being pet from head to bottom, enjoying full strokes along her back. However, she can be a bit sensitive around her ears and may react if you tap her bottom area. **Lap Time & Cuddles:**   Trish is a lap cat who feels comfortable being held. She enjoys snuggling up on your lap and will even sleep in your bed for a short time, usually staying around your legs or occasionally climbing onto your belly. **Attention Seeking:**   Trish seeks attention a couple of times a day, preferring to be groomed and petted rather than playing with toys. **Quiet Companion:**   Trish is generally quiet, only making gentle, cute meows when she's waiting for her food. **Scratching & Litter Box Habits:**   Trish uses her scratcher and is fully litter-trained. **Foodie:**   Trish prefers chicken-flavored food. She also loves Temptations treats and is particularly interested in the smell of fried chicken! **Challenges:**   Trish didn't present any challenges in her foster home. She may take a week or so to adjust to a new environment, but once she does, she'll be your best friend. **Why Trish?**   Trish has the best personality once she gets to know you. She's curious, loves to be around people, and has the cutest purr and head butting. She isn't interested in high places but loves to look out the window and smell the fresh air. Trish is the perfect cat for someone looking for a loving and loyal companion who will bring joy and comfort to their home. To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Meet Mona!  Please note that Mona will do best with another feline friend at home. Mona is a sweet and shy 3 year old girl who is still finding her confidence, but she's already shown remarkable bravery in new situations. While she might be cautious at first, especially around new people or environments, her gentle nature shines through once she feels safe.  **Petting Preferences:**   Mona loves getting cheek and neck scritches, but she's still a bit guarded about her belly—so approach that area with care.  **Lap Time & Cuddles:**   While Mona hasn't become a lap cat just yet, she's likely to seek out more affection as she becomes comfortable in her forever home.  **Playtime Fun:**   Mona is a playful cat who loves chasing after wand and string toys. She’s also quite clever and enjoys the challenge of puzzle feeders. **Quiet Companion:**   You won’t hear much from Mona, as she’s a very quiet cat. No meows or chatter from this girl, but her actions speak louder than words. **Litter Box & Scratching:**   Mona is fully litter-trained and enjoys scratching on her cat tree and cardboard scratcher. **Foodie:**   She’s not picky with food and enjoys both her wet food and kibble, along with the occasional treat like Friskies and Churu. **Best Fit:**   Mona is looking for a patient and understanding adopter who will give her the time she needs to come out of her shell. In return, you’ll gain a loving, brave companion who will flourish in a stable, caring environment. **Why Mona?**   Mona has so much potential to be a loving and affectionate companion. With a little time and patience, she'll reward you with her loyalty and sweet nature. **Challenges:**   Her small size and shy nature mean she might hide in unusual places, so her adopter should be mindful of open closets or drawers.
