Story
Spayed FemaleAge: 10 YearsBlack Domestic Short HairA281868 More about Merami: I am here at the shelter looking for my new home because I was fearful of the dog in my previous home. I stayed in a foster home while I waited for a dental, and my foster mom said that I am wonderful when approached on my own terms. I love to be pet and brushed, but only when I want them. When I am ready I will come up to you with head bumps, or put my paw on your arm. My adopter should use consent tests with me, and let me initiate contact, or scratches may be the result. I will need a slow introduction to my new home. After several weeks in foster I became much more snuggly and affectionate, and 90% of the time I would sit on laps when they were available, but even then my cues needed to be watched. I love sitting by windows to watch birds in a tall cat tree. I`ll occasionally show interest in wand toys and pounce toys, but mostly I like naps and lap time. My ideal adopter will be very cat-savvy, who will let me initiate every social interaction, and who will read and understand my cat-body language. I am a really lovely cat, but with the right adopter!! The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thanks!Dogs: No thanks!Kids: Teens and older who are very cat-savvy

Spayed FemaleAge: 12 YearsBlackDomestic Short HairA443730 More about Kitty: I am a quiet, mature lady who loves to play fetch with toy mice. I also love head and chin scritches! I have good litter box manners I have lived a sheltered life living with only one older person with no other animals or children. I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in one low-traffic space with food, water, bed and litter box until I am feeling 100% comfortable and have settled into my new environment. I have a history of hiding under beds, so my adopter should provide me with appropriate hiding spaces to ensure I feel safe. I need an adopter who will be patient with me and be able to read my body language. I do not like to be picked up. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thank youDogs: No thank youKids: No thank you

Story
Neutered MaleAge: 7 YearsGray TabbyDomestic Short HairA443830 More about Tiger: I am a very talkative and playful guy who likes to play with cat toys. I have a history of being outside, and it is recommended that I either have a safe outdoor option. I have a history of inappropriate elimination, and will be most successful in an adoptive home that is relatively low-traffic and in which I will be the only pet. I should have a slow transition to my new home, starting in one room where I can decompress after my transition out of my shelter stay. My adopter should be comfortable with keeping me confined for as long as it takes for me to be displaying calm, confident, affiliative body language and be using my litter box 100% reliably for several days in a row. My adopter should plan for no less than two weeks, but it could take longer for me to settle in. Once I am ready to more beyond the initial confinement space, my adopter should be prepared to give slow/incremental access to the rest of the home. This may involve small outings into the rest of the house with most doors closed, or simply allowing for access to one additional room at a time over the course of a few weeks or longer. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thank you!Dogs: No thank you!Kids: No thank you!

Spayed FemaleAge: 9 YearsBlackDomestic Short HairA444253 More about Millicent: I am a playful and friendly girl. I will make a lovely companion for the right adopter. I need someone patient, understanding of my history, committed to me being the only pet in the home, and able to follow a strict plan for a slow introduction to the home, and to do some sleuthing to determine my litter box preferences. I have a history of not using my litter box for many years (we have medical notes regarding urinalysis, follow-up vet care, and prescription diet). I will need a slow introduction to my new home, starting in a single room. I should have multiple litter box options (covered vs. uncovered, different litter options). My adopter should be prepared to do some experimenting to determine my preference and to ensure my boxes remain tidy consistently. Once my preference is determined and I have acclimated to my new environment and adopter, I can be introduced gradually to the rest of the house, gaining access to only one room at a time with the use of baby gates, etc, to restrict access. A quiet, low-traffic, low-stress environment is the most likely situation for me to success, but I still might struggle at times. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thank you!Dogs: No thank you!Kids: No thank you!

Spayed FemaleAge: 6 YearsOrange and WhiteDomestic Short HairA445450 More about Corona: I am a gorgeous orange girl! Only 20% of us carrot-tops are female, so we are very rare! I love to be pet once I am comfortable in my surroundings. I had great litter box manners before other cats were introduced to my previous home. I started not using the litter box, so for this reason, I do not want to live with other cats or dogs. My adopter should perform a litter box trial to help determine which type of litter box (covered, uncovered) I prefer, and type of litter (clumping, non-clumping, etc) My ideal adopter will express an understanding that patience is the name of the game with me, and that I will do best going as slow as possible. My adopter should be comfortable knowing that I may never want to expand my social circle. I should not be forced to interact with new people if my body language or behavior indicates that I am afraid. I may be conflicted about close handling/petting, especially as I am settling in. Think of me as a `pet myself on you` kind of cat until I am comfortable, always allow me to initiate an interaction versus coming up to me, and use consent tests. The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon 4:30pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thank you!Dogs: No thank you!Kids: Potentially should be older who are able to respect my boundaries and identify when I no longer want pets
