Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Midnight's journey has been a challenging one; she was attacked by a dog, which left her with nerve damage and incontinence. Her tail had to be amputated, and she was sent to Black Cat Rescue to heal. Despite the hardships she has faced, Midnight has shown remarkable resilience and strength. With the care and support of her foster humans, she has made incredible progress. Her incontinence is now manageable with the help of a diaper, and she has adapted to her new circumstances with grace and determination. Midnight (4 years old) is now ready for her next chapter, a loving home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves. She is a sweet and affectionate cat, with a playful spirit that shines bright. She even still likes dogs!! All she needs is a chance to show you the love and joy she has to offer. Please consider opening your heart and home to Midnight. She has so much love to give and is ready to become a cherished member of your family. Together, we can give Midnight the happy ending she deserves. Here's what her foster human has to say about Midnight:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Midnight is a friendly and smart girl, she doesn’t hesitate to interact with people.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She enjoys being pet. Cheeks, head, and back, enjoying rubbing ears and belly too.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn’t like her rear legs being touched. Would move her legs away and give you some look.   Does the cat come on your lap? She loves coming on our laps a lot, many times a day.   Does the cat like to be held? She doesn’t seem like to be held currently, would try to jump away.   Does the cat sleep in your bed? She would if we let her. She loves being around us.   Does the cat seek your attention? Very much! She would meow or jump on our laps.   Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She loves to play, in fact, she asks us to play with her every day. She may play at one toy and grab all the toys around her together.   How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She is vocal when seeing us in the morning, got home or wants to eat. Her voice is very soft.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? She does, the scratch board is her favorite spot.   Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. She’s not using the litter box due to the current condition.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She eats both dry foods and wet foods(can foods).   Is the cat picky about food? She is a little picky, loves pate and salmon flavor.   What is the cat's favorite treat? She can’t resist Churu!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, when we just met her, she swat at me when rubbing her belly(she likes belly rubbing), but now she doesn’t swat at me.   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes, and also the same situation described above. Sometimes she would claws out, but can’t be sure if that just her claws are a bit sharp, because she doesn’t show full claws.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No, she doesn’t.   Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she only lightly hold my hand in her mouth when rubbing her belly the first week we met.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She is very friendly to new people, she jumped on and kissed us the first day we met. And I believe she is social and gets along with other pets well.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Her sleeping style can sometimes make us laughing, she would straighten her legs backwards like a Flying supergirl.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She has great personality, smart (fast learner), and gentle. Aside from her special needs, she’s an angel and a good friend.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The most challenge part is her lack of ability to control urine and stools. We change her diapers 4-6 times a day and give her diaper-free times few times a day. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Winnie and Minnie are one year old bonded sisters. Here's what their foster human says about them: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Minnie and Winnie are both sweet but nervous cats. Minnie is more adventurous and curious of people. Winnie hangs back more and relies on her sister to figure things out first but is getting braver. But overall both of them are interested, playful and curious girls.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? They do not   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? They don’t want to be pet.   Does the cat come on your lap? Minnie sat on my lap for the first time the other night! But usually not but they like sitting on the bed near you   Does the cat like to be held? No   Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, they sleep for a little but they run around. But they join at bedtime and sleep on the bed for a bit.   Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, they come out when I get home from work and come into the kitchen to hang out with me. They ask for treats especially when I am in the kitchen they will watch me and wait for treats. Minnie follows me around, keeps her distance, but follows me around while I cook and putter around the apartment. They also come up to the bed at nighttime to sit with me. They really like watching cat tv on youtube on the phone and it’s good way from them to relax.   Does the cat like to play? Yes!! They love playing with different things on a rod. They love hair ties and cat toy wirey strings.   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Their favorite games with me are chasing a polar fleece ribbon of the rod. They also love to carry around toy mice. They really love hair ties - they love to take them once I am done using them and they have their own personal collection of them.   How vocal is the cat? Minnie trills sometimes when she’s talking to her sister but Winnie is pretty quiet.   What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Yes, the trills. Neither of them meow at all.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, I have several they use.   Does the cat always use the litter box? Always.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They are night owls but I feed them in the morning and at night. Currently they always have dry food available and wet food twice a day. Dry food: Prescription Hills DIet: GI BIOME. Digestive Care/Fiber Wellness cans: usually Salmon, tuna, or beef flavored   Is the cat picky about food? Yes, but mainly because many of the foods made them sick. But these ones they eat seem to agree with their stomachs.   What is the cat's favorite treat? Minnie likes churus. Winnie does not. But they both really like ‘Wildly Natural Cat Treats: Salmon Flavor’ Every now and then - they get tuna juice.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, But only when they are scared and I had to take them to the vet. They are nervous and when terrified they will put their claws out. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes. When trying to take them to the vet. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes. Same as claws. When they need to be caught to go to the vet. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Yes, all related to the vet. They are nervous around people but won’t bite unless grabbed.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? They tend to be fearful. They are really scared of people wearing shoes. They will run away if you are wearing shoes but much less scared if you are barefoot or sock footed. If you sit still and have toys or treats they will get brave and come out.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? So many sweet things about these cats. First off, they are so brave and are trying to trust people. They adore watching cat tv on youtube, the birds at the feeder. They like playing with strings/shoelace/cords. They like to drink water out of mugs that are all around the apartment. They also dip their toys in the water and carry the soggy felt-wire around afterwards.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These cats have been blooming since the start of their foster in Oct. They each have become more brave, more trusting, and more willing to come out during the day to hang out. They ask for treats now and come and watch to sit/sleep on the bed at night. If you want two brave kitties - who are exponentially growing to be more trusting and more social but need someone very patient and who will let them go at their own pace, you are the perfect person for them   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Biggest challenge is that they are fearful and nervous. Ways to manage this: spending time hanging out with them without interacting until they want to. Rewarding them with treats and new toys and playtime. I try to keep them on a routine so they know when I will feed them and then that makes them come out and see me. Big thing for their fears is being startled by movement - move slowly around them and if possible not wear shoes. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Ramona is a sweet 1 year old girl. Ramona has chronic rhinitis and uses an inhaler twice a day which manages her excess mucus production. This is what her foster human says about her:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Ramona is happy, playful, curious, energetic and enjoys being around her people   Does the cat enjoy being pet? She enjoys being pet when she's in relaxation mode.   If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Head, back of neck mostly.  But also sometimes her butt (her back but by her tail).   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? We used to scratch just inside our previous cats ears or rub her face and Ramona is not into either of those things.   Does the cat come on your lap? She will come up on our laps or our chests while in bed but she doesn't settle there.  If she's going to cuddle, she usually prefers between the legs or up against you somewhere.   Does the cat like to be held? She'll tolerate it for a very short (20 seconds) amount of time.   Does the cat sleep in your bed? Every night.  She follows up upstairs when we head up and she loves making biscuits on the soft blankets and laying on the heating pad.   Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, she follows us around the house if we're moving between spaces, and licks our noses and makes little sounds once we start to stir in the morning.  She'll jump up on our desks in the middle of the work day when she's not napping.   Does the cat like to play? Yes!  She'll play with still toys such as little springs or balls but she also likes the balls that move on their own or laser pointers.  She also has zoomies a couple of times a day where she likes to dart up and down the stairs and back and forth on our main floor, sometimes with a spring in her mouth!  We will also move our feet or hands around under blankets and she likes to go after those.   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Springs, the Giociv Interactive Cat Toy (Amazon).  She also enjoys watching "cat tv" with squirrels and birds on YouTube or watching them out the window.   How vocal is the cat? An average amount.  She'll meow when she is playing and has the spring in her mouth.  She'll make little noises when waking us up in the morning.  She occasionally meows when in her crate but not incessantly. And she will make a couple little meows when we're doing the inhaler.   What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She makes little trilling noises when waking us up in the morning.  She'll occasionally meow when playing.  You'll hear her breathing as she walks into the room when she's having a particularly congested day.  And then when it's zoomie time and she runs across the wood floors, she somehow makes it sound like a kitty stampede despite her small size.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, she enjoys scratching the cardboard scratcher on the floor and occasionally rips pieces off with her teeth.   Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes.  Her litter box usage is 100%.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She eats Redford Naturals wet food and Redford Naturals grain free dry food.  We give her half a small can of wet in the morning and the other half in the evening and she eats maybe half of each serving.  We always make sure there is dry food in her bowl and she grazes throughout the day.  She's not particularly food motivated until it's time for Churu.  She gets half a Churu after her morning inhaler and the other half after her evening inhaler.  We've tried several other "treats" and she's not been interested.  We'll also occasionally give her half a Tiki Cat Mousse instead of her wet food and she likes it but eats about the same amount.  And we have water bowls on multiple floors, one of which is a fountain which she definitely likes to have available.   Is the cat picky about food? She doesn't seem picky about her regular food.  We just haven't found a treat she likes other than Churu.  Churu is life. Note that she's not be interested in people food except for some canned tuna.   What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu.  All the flavors.  She prefers to eat it from the little tube while you hold it.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? She has used her paws (claws in) to try and pull the Churu hand closer to her.  She's also used her paws with claws in in the morning to touch our faces when she's licking our noses.   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? She has never scratched us but did swat at my 7 year old niece one time who loves cats but Ramona did not seem interested in interacting with her and it seemed like she eventually just had to tell her to go away.  She did allow me somewhat begrudgingly to trim her front claws so I'm confident and her new owner would be able to keep up with that.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No   Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She's not initially social but she's certainly not afraid.  She'll stay in the vicinity with new people and request attention from them like she would us after maybe an hour or so.  The only new person she's not seemed interested in is my 7 year old niece and to my knowledge, that's the youngest age she's encountered.  She was fine to be in the same room with her but didn't want to interact with her for an extended period of time.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She's the first cat I've seen do a thing we call "4-wheel drive biscuits" where she kneads with all four paws at the same time.  And she likes her back paws to be on your leg while she does it.  She'll walk her back paws up and down your leg kneading while her front paws knead the bed.  But the blanket's gotta be a soft one!   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? This cat is literally the nicest cat we've ever encountered.  She likes to be in the same area whether she's having zoomies or napping.  In the morning she'll wake us up as we begin to stir or our alarms go off (rarely before this).  And her routine is to make little trills while licking our noses.  When you get up, she's excited to have someone to hang out with.  She's also very well behaved for her age (which I believe is about a year and a half?)  She occasionally scratches furniture but prefers to scratch her cardboard.  She'll grab a wire or string in her mouth when she sees it but only momentarily and I think her missing teeth prevent her from ever breaking these things.  She never goes after people food and won't get up on the counter or table unless there's a reason to, like her food is there.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Her biggest challenge is clearly managing her chronic rhinitis.  Most days she requires wiping of the mucus coming from her nose.  Every other day we wipe off the dried bits with a wet cotton ball and it takes a minute to get her in position for this but then she seems to like the wet on her nose.  She also requires an inhaler for 2 puffs twice a day.  She never runs from the sight of the inhaler but will typically pull her face away at least once while you are doing it.  She also leaves a lot of mucus around the house when she sneezes (though the majority of it she cleans up by herself which was initially gross but we got used to).  As she's not a shy cat, I do think someone else would be able to give her an inhaler if her owner needed to travel but I don't think she'd be content to be alone several days at a time.  I think she could adjust to a new environment pretty quickly as she was with her last foster for 6 months and seemed quite comfortable with our place within about 24 hours and even had developed some routines 2 or 3 days in.  Other than the rhinitus, she is an absolutely perfect and sweet kitty.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  February 17, 2025, 11:02 am

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Maverick is a 1 year old girl. Here's what her foster human says about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Maverick is a quiet and shy kitty who absolutely loves food and is gradually learning to enjoy being petted! She’s still a bit timid about living with humans, but she’s made incredible progress in the past 5 weeks I have been fostering her. She’s discovering that people aren’t so scary—and that Churus are absolutely delicious! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Maverick has been gradually learning to enjoy being petted. She lets me pet her about 50% of the time, and this proportion is increasing by the week. She has great potential to love being petted—I’ve even heard her purr a few times while getting pets. When I offer my hand for her to sniff, she either gives it a quick sniff and allows pets or backs away—her clear way of saying no. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Maverick likes pets on the cheek, chin, and top of her head the best. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She whines and backs away when you pet her back, or the base of her tail, or her paws. I have not tried to touch her stomach yet. Does the cat come on your lap? Maverick doesn’t usually sit on my lap, but she’s not hesitant to climb onto it when I’m spoon-feeding her meals or giving her treats—especially when she needs to step on my lap to reach the food. Does the cat like to be held? I have not tried to hold Maverick, so I am not sure. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Maverick likes to sleep by herself, and has a few sleep spots around the house where she likes to hang out! In my house, she likes to sleep on the couch, on top of the high chair, and inside the cat tower.   Does the cat seek your attention? Maverick usually does not seek my attention, and is generally a pretty quiet cat. She spends about half of the day in hiding, and the other half sitting around in chairs and the cat tower. However, she will definitely meow at you when she wants more treats at the end of treat time! Does the cat like to play? Yes although she’s still learning to trust the wand toy.  What are the cat's favorite games and toys? I’ve seen her play with “KONG Pull-A-Partz Yarnz Assorted Plush Cat Toy with Catnip,” and she tore the mouse apart from the toy! She also might like catnips since catnip is included in this toy. How vocal is the cat? Maverick is a quiet kitty that likes to spend a lot of time in her comfort corners. However, she will definitely meow when she senses food or treat time! What kinds of sounds does the cat make? I've only ever heard Maverick meow. Sometimes, she opens her mouth as if to meow, but no sound comes out. Or maybe, she is meowing very quietly or in a very high pitch! Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. She also likes to scratch on my doormat as well. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. She has only made a small mistake once, where she pooped right next to the litter box, but otherwise, she is excellent at using the litter box! What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Maverick is eating 2 small cans of wet food per day, with unlimited amounts of dry food available. She seems to have some level of food insecurity, so we have been trying to work on that! Is the cat picky about food? Not at all! Maverick will just eat about anything—any flavor of wet food, dry food, and all treats. What is the cat's favorite treat? I’m not sure what Maverick’s favorite treat is, since she liked every treat I gave her! This includes the Churu, Greenies dental treats, Temptation, and Fancy Feast Square treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? She has never swatted me aggressively, but she did hit my hand a few times with no claws when I was giving her treats too slowly and she became impatient with the treat in my hand! Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Never. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Never. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Never. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? When a new person is around, Maverick will retreat to one of her comfort hiding spaces. She doesn’t act particularly social or fearful, but if approached by someone unfamiliar, she may retreat further into her hiding spot. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Sometimes, Maverick likes to hunt treats if you throw them. She will chase after the treat and pounce on them as if it was a prey! She spends most of her time napping or lying around, and when she is bored, she will take an adventure to take a lap around the house. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? If you're looking for the rewarding experience of bonding with a cat from the early stages of socialization and helping them come out of their shell, this cat is the perfect match for you! She’s already come a long way! Maverick has great potential to become a social kitty, especially with her strong motivation for treats. She’s a sweet and intelligent cat who enjoys pets and is always learning and adapting. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The only challenge that I had was the initial socialization that Maverick had never had. She was a very timid and fearful cat when she first arrived at my place but is slowly learning that humans aren’t as scary as she once thought!   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  March 9, 2025, 11:54 am
