Story
I'm a colorful puppy. I was born in the care of Polk County Humane Society to a surrendered mama. My mama is a cutie and so is dad - so I'm destined to paint your heart with love and joy. We are chihuahua, beagle, minpin and who knows what else. Our mama and dad were both about 10 – 12 lbs, so we surely won’t get much bigger than that. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt. We are in a foster home and will be going to the vet for our neuter/spay surgeries on 8/16/24. We will be able to go home the very next day. We are getting a lot of applications (as you can imagine with us being so darn cute!) Please don’t call. We just can’t answer so many call with our small staff. The nice people here plan to review the applications on Tuesday, 8/13 and pick a few out to meet us. Please put your application in soon! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For transports out of state (CO & IA & MN), there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). For pets transported to St. Louis, there is just a $50 fee to help with gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2091269##

Story
Bella is an approx 2 y/o 10# Chiweenie who was found as a stray in a small rural TX town. No one came in to claim her and she was very frightened at the shelter. She's now in a foster home in CO and is coming out of her shell. She loves to be near her person/people, sit on your lap, and sleep under the covers in the big bed. Bella now loves to play with other dogs but can get snarky if she doesn’t get to be the boss. Bella has a difficult time sharing so we are looking to place her in a home where she is the only dog or with a laid back dog who doesn’t care about her bossiness. Bella needs a secure 6 ft fenced yard as she will be a flight risk for awhile and humans who can take her out frequently. She is potty trained and crate trained. She enjoys walks and is good on the leash but will bark at people, other dogs and unfamiliar things. She had made a lot of progress with her fear barking on walks and will need her new owner to continue with her reward based training. She'd do best with someone (she prefers women over men) home during the day and no small children. She hasn't been overly barky indoors. She was curious about cats but we're not sure how should be be living with them. If interested in meeting Bella, complete our meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms as the first step. We require the application, home and reference check, and meet with everyone in the home including pets. Bella is spayed, utd on vaccs, chipped, and HW-. Her adoption fee is $375 and we are not doing any out of state adoptions.August 19, 2024, 2:25 pm

Story
My name is Filbert and I am a Chihuahua mix puppy who is 4.8 pounds and 10 weeks old. I love all people, dogs of all sizes and ages, and I also love the two cats and my foster home. My favorite pastimes are snuggles, playing with anything that might be a toy, and running around outside when I get the zoomies. I am kennel trained. I sleep through the night, but I still need work on being fully potty trained, so someone home to let me in and out during the day to do my business will be given preference. I don’t seem to make any messes in my kennel during the night, but if I don’t have access to outside, I might potty inside and I always feel bad when I do. I am looking to find my forever home. Respectful kids 8+ will be considered and a fenced in yard would be best. I’m not a big barker except for when I get put in my kennel before bedtime. I have one set of puppy vaccs left. If you are interested in meeting me, the first step is to complete the meet and greet application at  https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms  The application, home and reference check, and meet with everyone in the home is required. Filbert is neutered, utd on age appropriate vaccs, and chipped. His adoption fee is $400 and we do not adopt outside of Colorado.  August 19, 2024, 2:25 pm

Story
Name: Robert Breed: Chihuahua / Pug Mix Sex: Neutered Male Age: 2 years Weight: 9 lbs Needs Experienced Adopter Good with dogs? Yes! With a proper, slow introduction, he absolutely thrives with a social, confident companion. Good with cats? Not Tested Good with kids? No, children 12+ only Energy level: Low, as long as he has another dog to bounce off of! He is a polite leash walker, keeps himself busy with chew and/or squeak toys and rawhide sticks, and sleeps very soundly. Behavioral needs: Robert needs a patient adopter who can read his vocal and physical cues, be devoted to his training and socialization, and make sure he has space when he’s around unfamiliar humans. He needs toys that are appropriate to chew. He is crate trained for overnight sleep, is working on potty training and does mark on some furniture and carpeting. Animal Characteristics: Robert is reserved, timid and will be most comfortable in a quiet, peaceful environment where he has consistent canine companionship, human supervision and access to a closed yard where he can frolic, snooze and soak up sunshine. He generally prefers canine over human interaction, but will joyfully accept petting, belly rubs and being held after he sees a trusted companion dog seek out human love, or when prompted with treats or toys. Robert is darling, spunky, clumsy and endearing. Please learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at www.pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. You can also contact my friends at PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org if you have questions. I look forward to meeting you!

Story
Name: Junior Breed: Chihuahua Mix Sex: Neutered Male Age: 10 years Weight: 17 lbs Has Behavioral Needs Good with dogs? Yes, Junior likes calm dogs and does not like dogs that are pushy. Good with cats? Yes, Junior does not chase after cats and will just smell them and lick them. Good with kids? No, Junior does not like kids. Energy level: Junior is low energy but enjoys a good 30 minute walk 2x a day. He is not interested in toys, but he loves to go for car rides! Behavioral needs: Since Junior is an adorable looking pup, people want to pet him immediately, but they need to give him space or else he will nip. He adjusts to new people as long as they ignore him at first and wait for him to approach. He needs several days to get to know and trust a new person, then he can be a best buddy. Animal Characteristics: Junior is lovely, faithful, snuggly, and relaxed once he knows and trusts his person. He will just hang out and sleep during the day, providing cute companionship. He is a good listener, comes when his name is called and likes to give little kisses. He will go to bed when you do, cuddle under the covers, and wake up when you do, ready for another happy day! Please learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at www.pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. Story
I'm a pretty chihuahua mix looking for her forever home!! My new friends here have told me that I'm sweet and do really well on leash when we go for walks outside! My previous owner said I got along great with adults and kids in the past. And, if I bark at you because you're new, don't be alarmed! I'm just saying hi :)August 19, 2024, 11:18 pm
