Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Aurora is a sweet little old lady that was surrendered to PRBJ when her owner had health issues and was unable to care for her. She is looking for a nice quiet home to spend the rest of her years relaxing in.  Aurora does have a 2 out of 6 heart murmur and nuclear sclerosis which is the clouding of the eyes.  Miss Aurora recently had a dental and 20 teeth removed.   These things do come with age and do not slow her down.  This little girl is good with kids 2 years and older however due to her age we are recommending a home without kids.   She likes her naps throughout the day and one of her favorite spots is on a blanket or dog bed under my desk so she can keep an eye on me. Aurora likes the car and will make herself comfortable quickly, especially if you put a pillow/bed down for her!    She will do the same in the house.    We put a large dog pillow on the couch and she loves to lay on that and keep our elderly parent company.     She loves to be outside but is not a fan of commercial vehicles such as the mail truck, EMTs, trash truck, school bus, etc. and will make that known.  She would, therefore, be best for a stand alone home without shared walls.   She sleeps all night in a dog bed or on the couch. Aurora loves "hunting" outside.    She doesn't typically catch anything but is fascinated by lizards and even more by grasshoppers.   Due to the heat we limit how long she is out at any time.    She does not seem at all like a 14 year old and easily jumps up onto chairs and couches and is happiest on a lap. Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet 6 lb, 6-7 yo Peanut, a sassy, independent, adventurous Chihuahua who likes to have it her way. Her attitude has improved after surgery to remove her painful eyes; maybe she should be renamed Sweet Pea! She is house broken, crate trained and sleeps through the night in her bed. Peanut tested positive for heart worm in September, but has been on a protocol since then, so we’re hoping she will be given the all clear soon. She mostly ignores other dogs unless confronted, will voice her dislikes, but gives a warning bark to unfamiliar voices or noises. If you are on the look out for a watch dog, she’s your gal. Her hearing is excellent. Peanut is a good car rider. She navigates well inside the house to her beds, crate, the kitchen for treats, the water bowl, and will put herself to bed. Her most favorite place is outdoors exploring, sniffing, listening to sounds and protests if her peace is disturbed; a fenced yard would allow her to roam freely and is required for her. Our girl is food aggressive as a result of being found dumped and alone on a country road at just 3 lbs., obviously starving. Her foster mom puts her food down and walks away, giving her space. Peanut seems to prefer females, but just may warm up to a special guy who is well versed in Chi and their idiosyncrasies. While not a cuddler, she will approach for attention, a neck rub and, perhaps to join you on the couch under strict supervision because she will walk right off the edge if not stopped. Peanut may be best in a home as an only dog, would be okay with cats, but not with small children. We are adopting her to an all-adult home only. Peanut is heart worm positive at this time, and is on the slow kill method, which we can explain that process to any interested applicant. She can enjoy regular activities. Heart worm disease is contracted from an infected mosquito and can not be transmitted to another dog. If you think you have the perfect forever home for Peanut and her little quirks due to her sight limitations, please complete her app and tell us more about you. August 19, 2024, 5:24 pm

Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Say hello to Nino!  This handsome little fellow was surrendered to Animal Services because his family no longer wanted him. Our vet estimates Nino is between 8-10 years old. He weighs almost 7 pounds and has a striking salt-and-pepper colored coat.   Nino loves going on walks. He walks great on leash but gets excited if he sees a squirrel or dog. He may bark and pull so it’s important that his harness fits securely. Nino is easily redirected and the more experience walking outdoors, the less excited he gets upon seeing new things. Nino is sometimes startled by ordinary household objects. For example, he is convinced the vacuum cleaner is a monster and he loudly barks at it. Over time he should become accustomed to seeing the vacuum cleaner and lose interest in barking at it.   Indoors Nino gets along well with his smaller foster siblings. He craves attention so sometimes he will push in front of his foster siblings for pets or treats. He enjoys playing with his foster siblings but they don’t always reciprocate.  He loves to snuggle next to his people during TV time, and he sleeps quietly through the night at the foot of the bed or snuggled next to his people. Nino is house trained and crate trained. He doesn’t love going into his crate. He may bark or cry at first however he soon settles down. Nino has not shown destructive behaviors in the house. He is separated from his smaller foster siblings with a gate when his foster parents run errands but he does not need to be crated.   Nino is small enough to take just about anywhere, but he is also big enough to be able to go on a good walk outdoors when the weather is moderate. Due to his small size, Nino needs a home without small children. His ideal home would have adults only with and another dog about Nino’s size.  If you think you have the perfect forever home for Nino and you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area, please complete an application and tell us more about your family. Story
Apply to Adopt Me! Meet our little champ, Tobey Turbo McGuire an approx. 6yr old long haired chihuahua who weighs in at 6.5lbs. He is a fastidious little man who is house trained, a wonderful car rider, and acts like a gentleman in public spaces. He loves his little bed and is a sound sleeper throughout the night. One of his favorite activities is retrieving his squeaky tennis ball. He has a super appetite and is even eating veggies and fruit mashed up in his food. His fosters have added salmon oil and you can really see the bloom coming out in his gorgeous, red coat. He’s good with other little dogs, but prefers to play alone. He is the walking champion of the neighborhood and super quiet for his breed. He’s a good little watchdog if the doorbell rings. Tobey is perfect in his oversized playpen/crate, whimpering a bit once we say good night but falls to sleep and is quiet through the night.    Tobey has had a rough go since his owner passed away and family dropped him off at a hot, overcrowded shelter. He is uneasy with handling and has snapped out of fear. A calm, adult-only home is essential for this little guy to thrive and shine. His perfect forever home would be an experienced owner of a small dog or chihuahua like this little boy who is frightened by hands. We don't know what in his past made him fearful, but getting a harness on him took some time and patience with his current foster, and we imagine this will repeat, so he needs someone who has the patience to allow Tobey to go at his own pace until he trusts. Please consider this little project of love as your next companion. He deserves the best in life and in time will be a wonderful companion who has a few fear issues. Don’t we all though. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area, and believe you have the kind and patient home for Tobey that he needs, please complete and app and tell us more about you.  August 19, 2024, 5:24 pm
