Story
Pepper Spice Boy is a happy-go-lucky, joyful dog. He is affectionate and loves to give kisses, and is very quiet and polite. He is never underfoot, doesn't jump on people, and won't bother your belongings. Pepper adores walks: Great on a leash, he doesn't pull. Do you like an independent spirit who wants to be your one and only? He just needs to be handled in a certain way (by adults only). And he needs a home without any other animals. Pepper lets you know his thoughts about passersby, so we are looking for a detached home. As he can be an escape artist, we are looking for a home that is in an interior neighborhood, not close to main roads. And we are looking for a quiet neighborhood, without a lot of people walking dogs. When it's time for naps and bedtime, Pepper tucks himself in (see his video where he puts himself under a sheet), and sleeps through the night without a peep -- 10 hours at least! During the day, he goes potty about every 4 hours. Pepper loves his food and won't beg for yours. When he gets excited, like before mealtimes, he stands on his back feet, pawing the air with his front feet, and twirling around like a circus dog. So cute! His awesomeness does not stop there: Pepper is crate- and house-trained. He doesn't need to be crated, however. Very smart, he knows Wait, Stay, No, Come, Let's go, Stop, Want to go out?, Go back?, Move Over, and Leave it. Check out his videos to see this pup in action! He is clearly psychic because he chose Chapel Hill to win over Duke at their match on April 2, 2022! This sweet boy can't wait to find his forever home! HISTORY Pepper had been living with Nikki (another small dog) and a couple in their 90s. When the husband died, the wife could no longer care for either dog. IAR took both Pepper and Nicki into the program. Nikki was adopted. HEALTH Pepper is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. He had his teeth cleaned in March 2022. He came to us grossly overweight at 17.6 pounds. He is now at his ideal weight, 11 pounds. He recovered from an ACL tear with acupuncture, chiropractic, MYOS, Teapills, and a joint supplement. PHYSICAL Pepper is white with brown on his ears, face, and tail (what there is of it!).

Story
Meet Frida Friday! This sweet 2-year-old chihuahua mix came to us as a stray, but we’re so glad to say that she’s now looking for a home where she can be cherished as someone’s whole world. Frida is the tiniest in her foster pack, but don’t let her size fool you—she’s got a big personality and knows how to keep her canine friends on their toes!Frida loves playing with other dogs, zooming around the backyard, and then curling up on the couch for some cozy snuggles by the fireplace. She’s a total lovebug who enjoys walks, and she’s a perfect lady on the leash. If you’re looking for a companion who will keep you company, add some joy to your days, and be your loyal friend, Frida might just be the one!Frida Friday is available as Foster-to-Adopt at this time since her spay is not scheduled until January 13th. We are accepting adoption applications for her now so that she can find her forever home and then once she is spayed her adoption can be finalized. ***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***

Story
Meet Molly - a sweet, playful and sometimes goofy Chihuahua mix. She suddenly lost her dad, my brother-in-law, in June. He adopted her about four years ago from a man who had to leave town quickly for a job transfer. We recently brought her in for a rabies shot and nail trim, and the vet estimated she is between 7 and 8 years old. My brother-in-law cherished her deeply, and we are looking for a person or family who will give her the love and attention she deserves and has grown accustomed to. While she can be a bit timid and slow to warm up to new people, she is incredibly affectionate once she gets to know you. She likes to stay close - even right in your lap! She loves to play fetch with her favorite her toy (called Barney) and will bring him to you when it's playtime. Molly is spayed, house and potty trained, and good with other dogs. We do not know how she is with cats as she has never been exposed. Please reach out if you'd like to meet this sweet little girl!

Story
May need to eventually use a wheel chair due to arthritis in her backI am a sweet 5 yr old girl. I came to rescue via a vet visit. My owner wanted to euthanize me because I was in pain and he couldn’t afford to take care of me. I went into rescue to hopefully get better with medication. It was determined that I have DDD in my back (degenerative disc disease) for about 2 weeks I lost the use of my back legs. I was then placed in a wheelchair which I mastered quickly. My people had come to except that would be my life going forward. Boy did I fool them cause I determined that was not the life I wanted. First I started briefly walking on my knees then I slowly started standing up and taking a few steps. Next thing you know I’m running everywhere. My legs are still too weak to jump or stand up on my hind legs but my place is to always be in a humans lap to snuggle so I’m building those muscles back up. My fosters showed me so much love and patience I just wanted to be better.. My foster mom calls me her shadow.and her bed mole because I like to dwell under the covers. I follow her everywhere and love lap snuggles. My favorite place to sleep is under the blankets snuggled as close as I can get to my person.I have a favorite blanket that I like to suckle and nibble on. I am vocal but not as bad as most of my relatives usually are, I’m more of an alert system. I’m completely house trained and will let you know when I need to go out. I’m great with all dogs and cats but prefer not to share my persons lap although I will tolerate it if I have to. To apply for me please visit STFFAR. Org for an online application. December 13, 2024, 2:07 pm
