Story
ROXIE - COURTESY POSTING Roxie is a middle aged (7-9 year old) chihuahua mix that weighs in at 13 lbs. Roxie was among the 50 that were rescued alive from a hoarding situation in GA, of about 150 dogs. She is spayed now, but has been over bred in the past.  Roxie faces a few challenges; she has exhibited some neurological damage, and her back end doesn’t work as well as it should. Her stride wobbles in the rear and she has a tendency to slide her back feet on the floor. She has occasional accidents that she doesn’t know is happening. She has less feeling back there and tends to bite her feet.  She doesn’t appear to like other dogs, and would enjoy being an only dog. We have not observed her with other pets so we can’t speak to her inter-specie behavior.  Roxie is a very sweet and very loving girl, she is a true lap dog. Her favorite toys are squeaky toys that she will squeak until they stop. Roxie doesn’t bark a lot, but she does have an adorable snore. She is crate trained. Roxie would perfectly fit in a home with lots of patience, love and attention. She is truly a delightful girl.  She is spayed, UTD on shots, HW neg and on HW prevention. Her adoption donation is $250.00. Story
Bella was born 4/9/17 so that makes her 6.5 years old. She weighs around 12 lbs. She loves to play tug of war and also likes to fetch. She is very active. She is also a total love bug. When you sit on the couch, she jumps right up and snuggles up right next to you. She will constantly nudge your hand wanting to be petted. She sleeps in the bed with you and crawls up under the covers to snuggle up next to you. She is also a chow hound. She is always begging for something to eat. She is taken out regularly when her foster mom is home. Once when her foster mom didn’t take her out soon enough, she started circling and her foster mom knew she was looking for a place to go. During the day while her foster mom is at work, Bella is left blocked off in her foster mom’s den. Pee pads are left down and she will go on them. She has not torn anything up and her foster mom is gone around 9 hours per day. Her previous foster crated her during the day and said she tore everything up and made a total mess. Her foster mom did lock her in a crate for about 3 hours one day, while she was gone, and she was fine. Bella is dog aggressive and will need to be an ONLY DOG. Even on leash when walking Bella reacts negatively to other dogs. Bella also has a high prey drive so would do best in a home without smaller animals.  Fence is required due to her dog aggression to ensure her safety.  Bella’s adoption fee is $300.00 If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. Story
This cutie is Frankie! Franky is believed to be approximately 6-8 years old. Little Franky found himself at a high risk kill shelter for unknown reasons and CRT scooped him up. Franky has a white coat with tan highlights, tan ears, and an adorable underbite. Franky is a happy little guy whose tail is always wagging. He absolutely loves to go for walks and is perfectly leash trained. He's also happy to lounge in the sun, on his own or with others, in a fenced yard. He's very smart and had already figured out which door to go to and how to signal that he needs to go out within an hour of being in his foster home! He's a champion snuggler and will be happy to spend hours cuddled up with his person. He'll fluff up his blanket and settle in for as long as you want. He likes to play with toys and can amuse himself or play fetch with you. He also likes to go for car rides. Franky seems to like all people and dogs in general, but we’re recommending a one person home, preferably a female, as he gets very clingy with his human. It would be best for him to be adopted by someone who is an experienced chi owner. He’s not a big fan of cats and we’d recommend a feline-free home. It is also recommended that Franky go to a home that does not have young children since any unintentional rough handling may be outside of his comfort zone. Franky most likely had some sort of trauma in his past given that he has a few broken teeth and cataracts in one eye with evidence of past trauma. This does not affect his quality of life. His teeth are crooked but healthy. He’s a good eater and enjoys a treat now and then, too! When he came into foster care, he was underweight and had itchy, red skin from fleas. That improved quickly once he got proper treatment! Franky was recently neutered and received a dental cleaning. Franky is heartworm positive and currently receiving treatment for this, which is covered by CRT. For this reason, he will be considered “foster to adopt” until his heartworm test comes back negative. That should not deter anyone from choosing this awesome pup - he'll be a wonderful companion for life! This adorable and sweet boy has come a long way since coming into foster care. His foster family is enamored with him, as are his two chi foster sisters. He's happy and healthy and ready for his forever home. His adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. Story
This sweetheart is Junie B Jones. It is estimated that Junie is between 6 years and 9 years old and weighs 11 lbs. Junie was a victim of animal cruelty and has been through what no creature should have to endure. As a result, Junie has some trust issues, mostly with men. All Junie wants is love but she requires some patience to feel comfortable in a new place. She gets along with other dogs, but would rather be the only one getting all the attention. She is a darling, beautiful, sweet little girl. She is not an active dog and is more of a couch potato, but she has her moments of playfulness. She loves doggie beds and blankets and will roll around in them and squeal with delight. Junie doesn’t like to be handled and may protest by squealing. When it is necessary to take her somewhere, Junie’s foster mom takes a bed and blanket to carry her in. She will snuggle close or even climb in your lap once she gets to know you, which doesn’t take long. Junie is mostly housetrained, but can be a bit stubborn at times about going outside and might have an accident. She will walk on a leash, under protest, therefore, a fenced in yard is required. She is spayed and up to date on all vetting, including dental. Junie’s mouth was very diseased when she came to CRT and the vet had to extract most of her teeth. Her remaining 5 teeth will eventually need to be pulled, but because of the fragile condition of her jaw, x-rays must be done before proceeding. The hope is that the remaining teeth will fall out on their own. Junie is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm prevention. Junie’s adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. Story
Meet Pinto! Pinto is a 10 pound, 10 year old male chihuahua currently being fostered by our friends at Doxie by Proxy Rescue. However, given that DBP has mostly doxies available for adoption, it is possible the perfect family for Pinto isn’t coming across his profile. So we agreed to help post him here! Pinto and his two sisters were rescued by DBP from a very full shelter where they were facing euthanasia. Pinto is a sweet, friendly, and slightly dramatic chichi (aren’t they all a little dramatic?!) Pinto loves to snuggle and is super friendly with guests. He greets new people at his foster home with a tail wag and lets them pet him. He loves both men and women- basically anyone who will give him attention! Pinto gets along with other dogs but would also be okay as an only dog. Pinto also does fine with cats. It is recommended that Pinto not go to a home with young children. Pinto likes giving you kisses but can get sassy if you try to give him kisses! Pinto loves burrowing in blankets, doing a little dance for treats, and tries to referee the doxies in his foster home when they get out of hand. Pinto absolutely does not like the process of putting on a harness or collar. Once it’s on, he’s fine, but it can be quite a struggle to get one on him. For that reason, it is recommended Pinto go to a home with a fenced yard. Pinto is pee pad trained. He does well with peeing on the pad but his poop doesn’t always make it on the pad (it’s always near the pad though! Points for trying). Without the pee pad, Pinto seems to have accidents even when he is taken out regularly. Pinto is leash trained and crate trained. Pinto is fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, has had a dental, and is heartworm negative. He does have a heart murmur that needs to be monitored. His new family will need to drive to Benson, NC, to adopt him– no transports. DBP prefers to adopt within a 4 hour drive of central NC. To get the application process started, please fill out a Doxie by Proxy application at the following website: https://www.doxiebyproxy.org/application Before you submit your application, have you: • Gotten agreement from all members in the home on adopting? • Checked your calendar for upcoming vacation or guests? • Healed from any recent pet losses? Processing adoption applications is a time consuming process for our volunteers. We strive to work with each applicant to find a match for their home. A single application can take 5+ hours to process (vet reference, personal references, phone interviews and “meet and greets”) — and our volunteers’ time is valuable. Help us spend their time wisely and only complete an application if you are serious about adding another 4-legged friend to your home!

Story
Meet Denzel and Cameron! Denzel and Cameron are a bonded pair that entered CRT after their owner passed away. Denzel is estimated to be around 8 years old but possibly older and around 6.5 pounds. Cameron is believed to be around 14 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. As noted above, these boys are quite bonded and it is an absolute must that they be adopted to the same home. Cameron doesn’t even like there to be a door between himself and Denzel! Denzel is the smaller fawn-colored pup and Cameron is rust-colored and heavier. Denzel and Cameron’s foster mom reports that Cameron is a very sweet boy. Denzel can be grumpy at times and as he has snapped at a neighbor, should go to an adult only home or a home with respectful children who know how to respect small older dogs. Cameron has had a large growth removed from his leg. The vet said it looked like soft tissue osteosarcoma; unfortunately, the growth accidentally got thrown away so we had no biopsy to confirm this. Cameron’s knees don’t work well and he struggles to take the step from his foster mom’s porch to the yard and back but he has done it through sheer determination thus far. Cameron has also been noted on xray to have an enlarged heart and takes a daily medication for his heart. Both boys are potty trained. They are neutered and have been vetted. They are heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm prevention. They will be microchipped prior to adoption. Denzel and Cameron’s’ adoption donation is $550.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below.
