Story
Dog Name: Malin Breed: Pittie mix Sex: female Age: ~ 3 yo Weight: 40 lbs Medical Needs: Malin has mild hip dysplasia on one side and bilateral luxating patellas. She takes a Dasuquin supplement daily which has made her joint issues almost imperceptible. This costs $13/mo  Housebroken: yesCrate trained: yesGood in the car: LOVES to go for rides. Good on a leash: Meh. Not so much. She acts like she has ADHD when the leash comes out. I think she’s hoping the next stop is the car! Energy level: mediumNeed a fenced in yard: not required  Dog Friendly: Yes and no. She is able to be out and about in public around other dogs and be fine. In the home, she can coexist with the right match of a dog…lower energy and not in your face. She has been known to resource guard items and food. For this reason,  a dog free home is recommended.  Cat Friendly? No. Perhaps it was a W. Virginia mountain lion that attacked her, leading to her amputation. Now she seeks revenge on all felines. ‍‍‍ It’s the story we are going with! Kid Friendly: I recommend teens. She could interpret screaming and yelling from youngsters as someone being threatened and would want to intervene. She seems sensitive to that.  If you followed GRR for a while then you know Malin has been with the rescue for about 17 months now. She came with some pretty severe injuries to her face and front legs which necessitated the amputation of her front right leg. During these 17 months, she’s had exactly 2 meet and greets!! Only TWO One of which is when we learned of her desire to nomnom a kitty ‍. Sure, she’s not perfect and needs a specific kind of home but she is so deserving of that. She is such a loving and devoted companion. I guarantee that if someone broke into my house all my dogs would probably hide but Malin…she would protect me at all costs. She absolutely loves going anywhere in the car…perhaps you know an over the road trucker in need of companionship? She is also happy to just chill at home on the couch if that’s where you are. She’s really not asking for too much. I know there has to be someone out there who sees the beauty in her like I do!!  Fosters Location:Hurlock, MD Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app —  ##1363897##

Story
Dog Name: Rogue Sex: Female Age: 7 years old Weight: about 60lbs Medical Needs: None Housebroken:Yes Crate trained:Yes. She will go in her kennel with a treat. She will pull on her crate if she thinks another dog is getting attention or going on a walk without her. This only happened once during her lockdown period at her foster home. Good in the car: Yes. She sits in the backseat and looks out the window. If the car is parked and her people are near the car, like while getting gas, she will climb the seats to be as close to them as possible Good on a leash: Yes. She does pull at times but not hard. She loves her walks and will beg for them on a nightly basis. Energy level: In the house she tends to be relaxed and enjoys cuddling or playing with her bone. Outside she gets the zoomies by herself or will run and play with my other dog. Need a fenced in yard: She enjoys it but if she is taken on daily long walks she may not need it. She loves to roll in the grass and sun herself. She does need to be observed while in the yard. She will begin to dig at the fence if she sees something on the other side of the fence that interests her. This does include her people. Dog Friendly: Yes with appropriate introductions. She needs some space when she’s eating. She is not a fan if another dog tries to eat her food while she’s eating. She has not shown any concern if a human gets near or touches her food when she’s eating. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Rogue enjoys playing with my dog, especially playing and running outside. Inside, they lay together. I think she would be ok as an only dog as long as her humans play with and exercise her daily. Cat Friendly? Not tested Kid Friendly: Rogue has lived with young children and not had any concerns. If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? With supervision, Rogue would be a good fit with any age. She does not jump when she meets new people regardless how excited she gets. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Rogue enjoys human interactions. She loves to be scratched under her collar and on her belly when she presents it. She is a huge fan of walks. Yes, you need to spell it out in front of her, though I think her spelling is improving. If you get too close to her leash, you need to be ready for your walk too. She loves to give kisses and is very vocal when she wants attention. She’s not a big barker unless something really concerns her which is very rare. ##1622825##

Story
Dog Name: TakiBreed: lab/shepherd mix (assumed)Sex: Male Age: 2 yearsWeight: 73 lbsMedical Needs: Taki received HW treatment in August 2023, and as of his retest in Feb 2024 he is negative! During his treatment it was evident that his back right leg was incredibly sensitive. An MRI revealed pieces of metal in his thigh muscle. He is currently on gabapentin twice a day and carprofen twice a day and is doing well. He will always be a little sensitive on that leg but surgery is not recommended at this time. Housebroken: doing really well with a regular schedule.  Crate trained: He goes in his crate willingly to eat his meals, or with a treat tossed in. He does like to bork sometimes, but it usually means he’s gotta go out, or you’re behind schedule for morning walks or food. Good in the car: Now that he’s on his meds he does GREAT hopping in the car! He’ll peek over your shoulder to say “heeyyyyyy” but stays in the back seat and will lay down to rest if you’re on the road long enough. If you have a lifted vehicle (iykyk) you’ll need a ramp or steps to help the boy out  Good on a leash: Pretty good. He mainly pulls when he sees a car or bicycle. We are working on daily lessons ‍ to stop this and he’s a great student. Energy level: Fairly low, he LOVES his 2x a day long walks but isn’t very bouncy considering what his breeds probably are.Need a fenced in yard: No Dog Friendly: Yes, with a very slow intro. We recommend a dog that isn’t very high energy; wrestling with another dog will DEFINITELY cause his leg pain and then he might not be such a gentleman (understandably so… no one likes to be achy and in pain!) If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly: NO CATS.  Kid Friendly: YesIf yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 8+. Taki was fostered with 2 teenagers. He does great about meeting kids in public, and will sit handsomely for pets. AS MENTIONED BEFORE: Taki does have a sensitive leg. Kids in the home need to be old enough to understand when to give space, and to stay away from sore spots. ‍ Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them: Taki came to us from a shelter down South and likely lived outside. He didn’t appreciate his fosters’ slippery floors the first few days and acted like he was slipping on ice. It has gotten better and he’s no longer hugging the walls. He bonds quickly and loves to follow you around. He’s starting to get more affectionate and is showing more and more of his derpy personality. Now that he’s on the proper meds (which he’ll most likely need the rest of his life) his lovable and occasionally spunky personality is shining through. He’s derpy and clumsy, playful and loyal, and we can’t wait to see him blossom more in the perfect home.Speaking of, his perfect home will be one that understands his trust has to be earned. Taki is uneasy about being handled around his stomach and back legs (most likely due to his injury) so his new home will have to be patient and hold off on the hugs. He also needs “Taki time”: when he lays down to rest he would prefer to be left alone by other dogs. So crate time, or a section of the house where he can rest uninterrupted, would be ideal once he’s tired. He loves curling up in his crate with his Benebone, and chewing away the evening. Fosters Location: Dover, DE Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file, email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app)  ##1697444##
