Story
Meet Rhea, a lovely Yorkie girl (weighing in at 10 lbs), recently rescued by National Mill Dog Rescue. With a friendly and curious nature, she’s always ready to greet you with an open heart and a little wag of her tail. This sweet girl is eager to find her forever home and become your new best friend.Though she’s still adjusting to her new life, her warm personality is already shining through. Stay tuned as we continue to learn more about this sweet girl and watch her blossom into the loyal and loving companion you’ve been searching for!- - - - -Before being rescued, many of our dogs have had limited socialization, so they may need a bit of time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!

Story
Meet Dexter! Male 5-7 years 5-7 lbs York/chi Easy going, calm, likes to go on runs alone (ie escape artist if your fence can't contain him), good with dogs, cats, kids. Loves a good lap and blanket.  Hi everyone, my name is Dexter. I am a sweet well mannered Yorkie Chihuahua mix. I am an owner surrender due to no fault of my own. My owner has a child that was to rough with me, and didn’t want me to get hurt due to my small size and the child not being able to understanding how to be gentle. I am a very easy-going, laid-back guy looking for a good lap to lay on. I love other dogs, cats, kids. And since I’m part Yorkie I have a very soft coat and I’m hypoallergenic. I am a little bit of an adventurous guy, so I do need a secure yard or someone hanging out with me while outside. I promise to love you and give you licks and cuddles for the rest of my life.  Dexter is currently being fostered in San Antonio and looking for an adopter or committed foster to escape the Texas heat and humidity and race onto the next transport to Denver, Colorado. ##2271015##

Story
Meet Dori, a sweet and loving pup who’s ready to find her forever home! Initially a bit scared and confused, Dori has quickly settled in and formed wonderful connections with her foster siblings. She would thrive in a home with understanding and patient dog friends who can help her continue to grow. Dori has mastered the stairs, is fully potty trained, and quickly adapted to a daily routine. She’s gentle and calm, with no signs of aggression. This little girl loves to snuggle at night and travels well in her cozy kennel. Dori is independent, often waiting by the door or going out on her own when given the chance.  With a beautiful smile and a personality to match, Dori is an absolute gem. We affectionately call her BaBa, since she looks like a sheep! She’s an extremely good girl, and we know she will bring joy to any home.  Dori was rescued from a crowded shelter in New Mexico. She had an eye removal at some point prior to going to the shelter. She has been diagnosed with a mid grade heart murmur. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2209361##

Story
There's nothing quite like young dog sweetness and silliness, and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm breath. These gorgeous pups are so pure and vulnerable with their whole lives lying in front of them, that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and alone in a terrifying shelter. Jules is a cute as can be 2.6 year old, 5 lb Yorkshire Terrier who is just waiting to be the love of someone's life. He was saved from an incredibly sad Arkansas breeding farm and his excellent temperament earned this gorgeous guy a ticket to a new life in Colorado. Jules is starting out with great energy. While initially a bit shy, this sweet Yorkie is blossoming with his rescuer as he learns about living in a safe and nurturing environment with love and kindness . Now at 2 - 3 years old, Jules self esteem is growing every day as he learns that he's a very valuable guy that has so much to offer a dog-loving family. Jules coat was a matted mess when he was pulled from the puppy mill and he was therefore shaved to give his coat the opportunity to grow in gorgeous and healthy. Jules forever family will need to make a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately every 10 weeks) and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are perfect lifelong protocols for general longevity and hair care) to keep his coat super-healthy, shining and cottony soft. Jules is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's also so loving and cuddly once he's comfortable in his environment. This snuggly little guy would be very excited to be a couch potato and snuggle with his favorite people at the end of an active day. Even at just 2 - 3 years old, it's clear that this little dog is SO smart and very sweet - very typical of the Yorkshire Terrier personality. Some would say Yorkies are among the most loving and intelligent family dogs in the canine world. Since Jules is just a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Jules will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free level 1 Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a young dog's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Jules out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement /force-free trainers in your area. We're open to Jules finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart young dog. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a dog that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day. Jules enjoys his relationships with all humans and dogs...we would prefer, however, to place him in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create a dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important to a dog's development. Jules will be up to date on his vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support our work toward zero population in the canine community. Applications are currently being accepted for this adorable and sweet as can be dog who is learning about love and acceptance in his life. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Jules, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
