Story
Pawtricia has been with our rescue for a number of years now, and she truly shouldn’t be here at our shelter. She’s got sweetness, sass, and charisma - yet she is currently a little too high-strung appearing for most people upon first impression. High-strung dogs are constantly alert, attentive, energetic and intelligent - however their most defining characteristics is that they don’t know how to relax. Learning how to relax simply never happened for so many dogs who grew up strays, got shuffled around, abandoned, or who are stuck living in a shelter. Similar to trauma responses in humans; dogs surviving in distressing environments over time will create shortcuts in their brain that will release adrenaline causing their body to go into fight or flight mode over and over again. The path to teach dogs how to relax - a skill more crucial than both potty training, leash walking, or recall - is individual to each dog. It takes patience and requires empathy and the ability to tune in- but it’s incredibly rewarding. Talk to us if you are interested in guiding Pawtricia into a sense of lasting safety by creating a space where she might be able to take in and enjoy the love she is given, loosen up, and become her true curious and silly self. It takes time, it isn't linear, and it’s not always harmonic, but because Rebel Dogs doesn't euthanize dogs due to trauma responses we have the knowledge and experience to help you be the difference for a dog who’s never received an application. Together we can be the difference for dogs like Pawtricia- don’t hesitate to reach out and learn more about our foster program to help us get deserving dogs out of the shelter and into a home environment! Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Having been with Rebel Dogs Detroit since his days as a feral puppy, he's blossomed from a shy, fearful soul into a confident and sociable boy who now thrives! He loves life with his current foster- and gets along beautifully with his foster doggy siblings- but unfortunately because of medical issues in the home- he cannot stay there! Introducing Rafiki: A Gentle Soul Seeking a Tranquil Sanctuary Meet Rafiki, a truly special boy who brings love and resilience in equal measure. Surrendered to us after being found as a stray, Rafiki's journey has been one of courage and triumph over challenges. Despite a rough start with untreated seizures, his spirit remains unbroken, and he’s now looking for a calm, loving environment to call home. Rafiki’s Needs: Rafiki's seizures are now 98% under control, thanks to dedicated care and medical attention. However, he thrives in a peaceful setting as too much activity can increase his seizure activity. A home without other pets or with just one other calm dog would be ideal for him, ensuring he remains relaxed and happy. What Makes Rafiki Special? Aside from his brave heart, Rafiki is house trained, crate trained, and wonderfully nondestructive—though he has a soft spot for a good stuffie! His favorite pastimes are snuggling on the couch and playing with his collection of squeaky toys and benebones. He even takes his beloved stuffies with him when he goes out to potty, showing just how much they mean to him. The Ideal Home for Rafiki: Rafiki's perfect match would be someone who appreciates the joys and the challenges of caring for a special needs dog. He needs a serene home where he can relax deeply and bond with his caregiver. A fenced backyard is essential for him to safely enjoy the outdoors. Why Choose Rafiki? Choosing to love Rafiki means embracing his uniqueness and providing him with the stability and care he needs to manage his health. In return, Rafiki offers unwavering companionship, endless cuddles, and a reminder of the impact of compassion and resilience. If you’re looking for a quiet companion and aren’t afraid of a little special in your life, Rafiki might just be the dog for you. His calm demeanor and loving nature make him a wonderful addition to a peaceful household. Ready to provide a sanctuary for Rafiki? His journey could lead to your doorstep, transforming both his life and yours. APPLY to FOSTER or ADOPT: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt rebeldogsdetroit.com/becomeafoster

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Story
Midna is the best friend anyone could ever ask for. She's been with her dad (me) since she was 8 weeks old. Very very loving, will try to lock the skin off of you, but a bit nervous. She has anxiety, so sometimes she can be a bit clingy or jumpy. Good around kids, but not babies. She gets anxious around weird noises, like a motor or something high pitched. Even bubble wrap. I had a family living with me for a bit, and their child abused her without my knowledge so she gets a bit jumpy, but I promise she's a good girl. Has never bitten anyone. Giving up my baby's is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but I have no choice in the matter. I want her to have the best life ever. She turns 8 on July 20th. 75 pounds and full of energy.

Story
Navi is a very calm and loving dog. She is a spoiled princess and when she doesn't get what she wants, she will be vocal and complain to you! She loves cuddles, as long as she gets to be under the blanket. She has a natural motherly instinct, super protective and affectionate. I adopted navi when she was a year and a half old, and rescued her from an abusive home along with her sister. I rehomed her sister to a loving home 2 weeks after fostering, but I couldn't bring myself to say goodbye to Navi. Navi and my first dog Midna became instant sisters, and I had to keep her. Navi is nearly 10 years old July 10th, and unfortunately I cannot keep her. She also a skin cancer survivor! Had a big tumor that was successfully removed. I just want to make sure she goes to a home where she will be happy and healthy! Thank you.

Story
Citrus was living alone in an abandoned house with no doors or windows. We trapped her, and she got very upset. Citrus was growling for many many days, and did not allow any handling. She finally came around to trust us, and is now a loving sweetheart. Citrus wants an understanding foster-to-adopt home, who wants to baby her. She is estimated to be 2-4 years old, and a mix between English Bulldog and Boxer. Citrus has a classic cautious and disapproving yet personable English Bulldog personality, and the silly play style of a Boxer. We are looking for a household without children for Citrus. Leashed walks are fine, she does not require a fenced in yard. Citrus has dog friends at the shelter - but incorporating her into a home dynamic with other dogs will take weeks. If you are up for it, we can discuss. We cover all needed vet care. The adoption fee is $275. Please apply through our website: rebeldogsdetroit.com/applytoadopt

Story
Rosy is a very sweet dog but, she is very needy. She loves to be up under you, and all throw tantrums when she isn't. I got her from someone in the community a few months ago. I like her, but can't deal with the constant need for attention. If I play video games, she will use her nose to throw my hand from the controller. I'm hoping she finds a home with someone who can give her the attention she wants. She is crate trained, which I will give you. I also have a pet vacuum with attachments that I will also include.
