Meet Abby! Typical to her lineage, this beautiful girl is full of energy, and is at her best when she has lots of opportunities to use her brain and move her body. She is currently in a boarding facility and enjoys the company of other dogs, but we feel she might do best as solo dog as she does show signs of possessiveness of her people, and might be happiest not having to share the attention. While she has no issues with the kennel kitty at her current residence, Abby was returned from an adoptive placement as she would give chase the cats in the home. While we feel this may have been due to a need for more stimulation, it may be most ideal to find Abby a pet-free home.Abby does have a few quirks, that we feel only make her more endearing! She has a very toothy bark, which can appear intimidating, but don't let that fool you. Her kindness shows through in her eyes, and she has demonstrated zero signs of aggressive behaviour. She also has a tendency to hover protectively over her food, toys and treats, but has not had any negative reactions to anyone nearby. However, this may be something she needs to work on over time until she understands that her people or other animals are not a threat to the items she values.Abby would benefit greatly from attending obedience classes to strengthen her leash skills and basic manners. She does pull on a traditional leash, but we have found a halti to be an effective way of controlling this. Generally as her excitement and curiosity wanes during her walks, she settles nicely. She is fully house trained, and is fine in the car.Due to her energy level, Abby would benefit from having a fully fenced yard where she can supplement her walks with yard play to keep her in balance. Meet Pal! This young dog is looking for a quiet home with an active lifestyle. His ideal match would be an active single person who is not away from home for extended periods of time.Pal loves human companionship, but it does take him some time to trust and warm up to any kind of physical touch. Loud noises also tend to stress him out, and this is why a quiet environment but active lifestyle is ideal for Pal. He would also benefit greatly from having a social dog in his home who can match his playful energy, but also help him to build confidence and feel safe.If you are looking for a walking companion, look no further than Pal! He loves adventures and will have his nose to the ground the entire time! Any walk that allows him the opportunity to dip his toe beans in water are his favourite! A rural home in a quiet neighbourhood would be the best fit for this little guy, as he is a little nervous and reactive around busy traffic. Walks are a very integral part of Pal's needs to stay in balance and as a high energy/anxiety dog, Pal is currently on Trazadone and Fluoxetine twice a day to help him regulate his emotions and reactivity. These are supports that Pal will need for life, in combination with lots of activity to be at his best and to feel his best as well.A fully fenced yard is an absolute must for Pal. Invisible or agricultural (hedges) will not be suitable for him.Pal is exceptionally clean and well-mannered in the home. He has no destructive behaviours, and is fully crate trained. Pal enjoys sharing toys while at play with another dog, but he has shown guarding tendencies with humans, so this will be something that has to be carefully monitored.We would not recommend Pal for a home with cats as he does like to chase and bark a them. We also feel that a kid-free environment is a must for Pal, and if his forever home has visitors, he should be crated as he could quickly become overwhelmed with a lot of noise and unusual activity.Pal is currently eating a wet food diet, and he enjoys liver treats as well. The true way to Pal's heart is to allow him a lot of time and space to feel safe before expecting too much from him. While he does love to be loved, it seems like he may have experienced some trauma and is very unsure of new people. His adopter will need to understand that he will need time and patience to feel safe and build his confidence before he will show his softer side.As a hypoallergenic, non-shedding dog, Pal will need regular grooms to keep his coat tidy and mat-free. Because of his sensitivity to touch, Pal currently needs to wear a soft muzzle while being groomed or examined at the vet but we have noticed some improvement in this area as he learns to trust humans.Only applications received through www.K9C.ca will be considered. Tupper is from a remote northern community, she arrived in our care a few months ago, She has been fully vetted and professionally trained via Cassia Canine instruction. She's a gem on our leash walks good with most other dogs and LOVES the great outdoors. Tupper would do best with an active family and a fenced yard. NO Cats PLS she will give chase.

Dexter brother to Duke is looking for a home with a fenced yard. He's good with other dogs with a proper introduction. A hunting dog at heart he is still a bit of a puller on a lead. He's an active boy, looking for a family or person who enjoys the outdoors. Unknown if he can be trusted off a lead. NO cats please and we're recommending children over the age of 8, with his exuberant nature he may knock smaller children over. Dexter is not appropriate for apt living and will need a fenced yard. He would do best with someone with hound knowledge. Dex is currently in care in the Colborne On area.

Meet Tobey! As a Puppy Mill survivor, Tobey was happy to leave his breeding days behind him for a more comfortable, happy life where his needs are at last being met. To start with, Tobey arrived with a mouth full of horribly infected teeth that all needed to be removed. Additionally, he was suffering from a painful condition called Entropian which caused his eyelashes to grow inward creating constant irritation and watering. This was also repaired surgically at the time of his neuter and dental, and he has thankfully recovered beautifully. ?Tobey is currently living with another dog in his Foster Home without any issues. In fact we think he would appreciate having another dog in his forever home as well, though he is still trying to comprehend how to initiate and engage in play, due to his previous lack of socialization. Tobey is quick to learn by following the cues of other dogs, so it would also help him to acclimate more quickly to his forever home to have a canine buddy to help learn the ropes!Tobey is also learning to walk on leash for the first time and getting better each day, and his housetraining is almost 100%, though he will need a forever family who will continue to be patient but consistent with this as he adjusts to his new environment.While Tobey has not lived with cats or critters, his Foster Family tell us that he is a very gentle and passive boy, who pays no attention to squirrels or chipmunks outside, so they do feel he would be able to live peacefully with cats or pocket pets. Tobey is not crate trained, and any attempt to crate him has caused him great anxiety and distress. So a home where he would not be required to be crated or kept in a pen would be best for Tobey. Ideally he will find an adoptive home where he will not be left on his own for extended periods of time, as he does show some signs of separation anxiety which will likely improve as he settles in and gains more confidence.Tobey is currently eating two meals a day at set meal times, but he does enjoy soft treats in between. He likes kibble, but it will need to be moistened for him so it is easy for him to chew without teeth. He shows zero signs of resource guarding of food, treats or toys. He is a very quiet dog, and we believe that Tobey may have been devoclalized in his previous life in the puppy mill.Overall, Tobey is incredibly sweet, curious, and gentle. He has never shown any signs of aggression, and just loves to be loved! Please keep in mind that as a Pomeranian, Tobey will require regular grooming to keep his coat healthy and free of mats.Only applications received via www.K9C.ca will be considered.
