Story
Meet Zero!! I don’t know what it is about this guy but he’s very special. Everyone that meets him just falls in love with him. He’s a big baby with a crappy past and all he wants is to be loved on. Zero was initially seized by animal control. He lived outside and when they found him he was starved, chained outside and had infected cuts on his legs. Thankfully he was saved in time. He healed up nicely and gained his weight back. He quickly went to a great home but sadly has been returned to us. This guy is really a big loving scaredy cat of a dog. He is super outgoing with other dogs and people but also gets afraid of walking through doors at the pet store. He also doesn’t like to be alone. Really just an oversized sweet baby. He is an approx 3 year old, male Pitbull/ Staffy type mix. He weighs 66 pounds and is full grown. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is thankfully heartworm negative. Zero was very loved by his adoptive family. He was only returned due to accidentally hurting their cats. We want to be clear that he is not at all aggressive to cats or other animals. The cats got hurt on three separate occasions just due to his size and weight. Due to this we want him to go to a home with out cats or tiny dogs just so he does not accidentally hurt a smaller animal. He loves all people and does great meeting everyone. He’s very much an overgrown puppy. Super sweet, goofy and loving. He’s done well with all the dogs he’s met so far. Other dogs sometimes get annoyed with his hyper play so a tolerant playmate would be best. He loves everyone including kids however he is big strong and playful. He may accidentally knock over small kids but he does not have any aggressions towards them. Zero is partially crate trained. He will stay in but can be vocal in protest. He doesn’t have to be crated as he’s not been destructive but he has been crated during the work day in hopes to get him more comfortable with it. He will willingly go in the crate when asked he just gets loud once he realizes he will be staying in it. He pulls a lot still when walked on the leash. He doesn’t get sick on car rides but can be very anxious about them. He is always happy to get where he is going but not sure about the trip lol. He is potty trained with a doggie door. He does get very anxious when moved to a new place and did have several potty accidents while adjusting to his foster home. It seems to be anxiety related and once settled he does very well. Zero LOVES to play fetch. He is obsessed with his ball. He will do it for hours. He will bring it right to you and drop it in your lap or at your feet. He would be so happy to have someone wanting a dog to play endless games of fetch with them. He has a moderate energy level. He loves to go outside with you, play with other dogs but mostly wants to lay around with you and be loved on. He’s such a sweet soul. He soaks up any affection he can get from people. He does get very hyper when you first get home or let him out of the crate. Once he gets some of that excited energy out he is much calmer and laid back. Zero has shown no food aggression with people but needs to eat separate from other dogs. He came to us starved and sometimes that leads to being protective over food. He does not do it with people at all. He is happy to eat in his crate or in another room if you have other pets. There are thousands of blue pitbull types out there looking for homes but this guy has something special. Its hard to explain but when you meet him you’ll feel it to. He is still a little rough around the edges with training but the person willing to put in the work with him is going to end up with the most loyal and steadfast companion you could ever ask for. Vet and home checks required. ⛔️DO NOT APPLY IF YOURE RENTING AND HAVEN'T SPOKEN TO YOUR LANDLORD FOR PERMISSION TO ADOPT THIS BREED.⛔️ Located in Hampton VA. Story
Meet Marshmallow !! We also have her sister fluff that has a separate post. They are both females, approx 9 weeks old. They weigh 5.5 and 6.5 pounds. They appear to be Great Pyrenees and will be very large when full grown. Likely over 100 pounds. They will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of their adoptions. MARSHMALLOW- Playful, active, and happy girl. Loves to “sing” Doesn’t poop in her crate but will pee still. She will be very vocal when she needs out to potty. Still has accidents outside her crate. Hasn’t met kids or cats yet but young enough to learn. Great with other dogs. Hasn’t started leash training. Good in the crate but can be vocal. Good on car rides but can be whiny. Already showing her herding traits with her foot fetish. She’s a play hard then crash hard kind of puppy. Neither puppy has had any trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. Neither is completely potty trained but they are learning. These puppies are just babies. They will need a ton of training and effort put into them. We expect these girls to be big and strong dogs that are fairly energetic. Please be prepared to exercise each and every day so they do not become pent up and display negative behaviors. Training well and often is very important so you don’t end up with a 100+ pound dog you can’t control. Pyrenees are well known for escaping yards. They go over and under fences with a tendency to roam. You will need to supervise them when they are outside. If left alone outside you are asking for them to find a way out. They will also be fluffy and need brushing and/or grooming so they don’t become matted. Do some research on the breed prior to applying. Don’t pick a puppy because it’s cute, ensure it’s going to fit your abilities and lifestyle. Adopting a young puppy is a ton of work. They will have lots of potty accidents, chew things up etc. You will need to help them learn things like leash walking, crate training and basic manners. It can be a lot of work but the reward is a dog that fits well into your family’s lifestyle if you invest proper time on training with them. Please carefully consider the time and effort a puppy requires before adopting. We do NOT adopt siblings into the same family. Before commenting on how sad etc, you feel that is please google “littermate syndrome” so you can understand why we take this precaution. It is done in the best interest of the puppies. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. FLUFF- Sweet, go with the flow girl. So far has a very laid back personality. Doing really well with potty training for her age. Great with kids, dogs, cats and no reaction to chickens. Great in the car. Started leash training and doesn’t mind it. Just starting to play with toys and dogs. Doing better with crate training, she’s learning. Currently a lazy girl. Sleeps a lot and isn’t to hyper. That is likely to change as she gets older. ****Sweet girl appears to be completely deaf. Story
Meet Niko !! This guy is absolutely gorgeous. He’s a big boy and gives the best snuggles. We’ve been working on his trainings and manners. He’s been doing so good. He’s very smart and treat motivated. He picks up training extremely quickly. Niko is a 5 year old, male American bully. He weighs 69 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. He loves everyone he meets and seems like he has no idea what a stranger is. He is big and very strong but is also a huge softie with so much love to give. He thinks he’s a lap dog and loves to cuddle. He has no concept of not fitting on the couch with you. He will crawl up and find a spot lol. Niko has been perfect with his potty training. He rides great in the car and is eager to jump in and go for a ride. Sometimes he needs a little help with his hind end to get into taller vehicles due to his shorter body build. He is very strong on the leash and needs continued training on that but is already getting better. He’s excellent with crate training and can stay crated during a normal work day. He will whine or bark a bit at times but it’s not excessive and usually when he hears you moving around the house and wants to join you. When Niko arrived he had almost no manners. In only two weeks hes learned so quickly. He is doing so much better about jumping on people or pushing through doorways etc. It seems like he was just never taught. Once he learns the rules and expectations he tries very hard to do what you want him to. Niko is a bit clingy. He wants to be around you as much as he can. He really loves his people. He loves to curl up on you for a nap on the couch even if he doesn’t fit lol. He will follow you all around the yard and “help” with whatever task you’re doing. He had no issues with the holiday fireworks and overall is a pretty confident boy. He needs the right owner for sure. He’s excellent when he’s calm. If he’s hyped up he forgets his training and can be harder to manage. He can be easily excited but has thrived in a foster home that’s focused on keeping him calmer and using firm consistent training. He wants so badly to make you happy and when he’s in the right environment he’s easily able to accomplish this. He’s not one you want to play wrestle with or hype up. Hes so good when he’s just hanging out with you in a normal relaxed way. Niko does have a few training quirks that will require the right home. He is hyper focused on plush toys. He will not share them with you. You can not take his toy or he will growl and if you push it he will eventually snap at you. He doesn’t want to bite you, he gives warnings and tries to get you to leave him alone first. He’s never bitten anyone but needs a home willing to not give him plush toys or leave him alone when he has them. He isn’t concerned with you near him when he has them. You can walk by, pet his butt etc but when you reach down to actually take the toy he says no. With training this may change but it also may just be the way he is. Pushing this issue with him could force a bite and get him euthanized so please be sure you take it seriously if you choose to adopt him. He however doesn’t care about his regular food and doesn’t care to much about bones either, a few here and there he doesn’t want to share but it’s mostly toys. He’s just really obsessed with plush toys. He rips them apart immediately but doesn’t ingest them. We are working on teaching him a drop it or leave it command but it’s a work in progress and far from a learned skill. He also doesn’t destroy his plushy bed in his kennel and hasn’t picked up or tried to chew anything in the house that wasn’t a dog toy. As far as other dogs Niko seems to do really well. He’s pushy at first meeting but seems to get along with various types and sizes of dogs. He however doesn’t share toys with them either. He also got possessive over the water hose when he was playing with it. Again, he didn’t bite them he just got growly and snappy. We would suggest he either be an only dog to make things easier or be paired with a calm energy dog that isn’t interested in toys and will back off if Niko gets possessive. We have no idea how he would do with cats. Niko loves kids and previous lives with an infant but he’s so big and strong he is just too much for young kids. That mixed with the toy issues and it’s just not a good idea to risk a kid trying to take his toy. Older kids that are calm and relaxed would be a better fit. If they run around acting wild he’s going to join in and forget not to pounce on people etc. His energy level is mixed. If you hype him up he’s ready to get rowdy at any second. However if you provide him a calm laid back atmosphere he’s good with relaxing all day. He goes out to potty and comes in when called and lays out on the couch. He’s fine kenneled through the workday as well. We know he has a few issues but he’s got so much potential in the right home. Someone with big dog experience and willing to continue his training would be best. He really is become a wonderful dog. Vet and home checks required. No young kids Located in Hampton VA. Story
Meet Fredricks !! This guy is a total ham. He is adorable and super fun loving. A really good boy. We cant figure out why someone would neglect and dump such a wonderful little guy. He came to us from the shelter where he was so matted,he couldn’t be touched without nipping at people due to the pain the mats in his fur were causing him. We had him immediately groomed and not only does he look like a proper gentleman now, he feels so so so much better!! Fredericks is said to be an approx. 8-year-old Shih Tzu mix. He acts like he is way younger and is a fun spunky guy. He currently weighs 11 pounds and is full grown. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative. This boy is always jumping up on your leg to get some attention. He follows you everywhere and is such a joyful little guy. He likes to be carried around and do anything you are doing. He has no problem barking at “intruders” coming into the home and giving a valiant home defense effort from the safety of the couch. LOL. He was adopted and returned for biting the female in the home. It seems he was incredibly bonded to the husband, a calmer laid back and quiet guy. The wife would attempt to remove him from the husbands lap. He would growl and finally bit her. He needs a home with people willing to respect his boundaries. Overall he prefers a calmer more laid back home. He’s fine with other dogs and people he just likes what he likes and can be grumpy when pushed past that. Due to him now having a bite on his history we have changed him to no kids to be safe. Fredricks has been good with dogs of all sizes. He will get growly with them if they are too much for him but he has a good patience level prior to that. He was initially overly excited to meet a cat but settled in and wasn’t aggressive toward the cat at all. We found out at his grooming appointment that he does have an issue with nipping if someone tries to grab his back leg. The vet said his hip has some arthritis and that’s likely the cause. He so far has not had any issues with being picked up or held it seems to solely be the intentional reach or grab of that back leg. Fredrick is crate trained but can be vocal at times while inside the crate. He really likes to be with his people and will protest if he can see you while he is in there. He walks fairly well on a leash. He can pull a bit when excited but nothing too hard to manage. He has done fineon all the car rides he has been on. He doesn’t seem to really like them but just lays on the floorboard and does not get sick. He is mostly potty trained. He does not have any regular potty accidents inside however he does some leg lifting/marking inside still. He was just neutered which will hopefully resolve that with time. He has no problem wearing a belly band to help with that inside until he learns to stop doing it. He’s had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with humans. He’s been grumbly with other dogs trying to take his toys or approaching his food to quickly but so far it hasn’t escalated past that. He listens fairly well and is learning more and more each day. He is a dog that will get under your feet while following you around so if you are an unstable walker he may not be the best fit. Overall Fredrick is a great little dog. He is both active and cuddly. A good mix of both. He is spunky and always ready to go where ever you want to go. He is glued to his people and wants to be involved in everything going on in the home. He will make someone a wonderful companion! 📌📌He will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him. ➡️Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message the Village Dog Resource Facebook Page or villagedogresource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Meet Slash !! We took in this awesome puppy and his brother Axl from a crowded shelter. They have both done so well since arriving. Awesome dogs that are both super loyal and very smart. (Axl has a separate post) Slash is an approx 10 month old, male, Doberman mix. He has a docked tail and natural ears. Potential mixed with German Shepherd but we are unsure. He weighs 52 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is Heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. Slash is just amazing. I feel in love with him right off the transport. He decided I was his person and was glued to my side. He was a bit shy with others but once he gets to know you he’s a playful puppy. You can tell this guy is going to be so loyal and intelligent. If you know the Doberman breed you know they are extremely loyal and loving dogs. He’s still a puppy but he’s doing really well with most of his training. He will thrive with routine and both mental and physical exercise in his new home. He needs a firm consistent owner to channel his intelligence and energy into positive behaviors. Slash is crate trained and doing very well with it. He’s great on car rides and seems to enjoy them. When it comes to walks, he generally behaves well. He might get a little too excited and jump on you but stopping, giving a firm “no,” and making him sit to calm down has worked really well. He’s done amazing with potty training with a fenced yard. He does not like to go potty on a leash and we suspect he would have regressed potty training like his brother if his family doesn’t have a fenced yard. He does need time to adjust to changes in routine. His foster parents recently went back to work and he was crated a lot longer than normal the last two days He peed in his crate each day. We are sure he will learn and adjust. Slash is great with other dogs and would do well with another dog in the home to show him the ropes. He is a bit hyper and pushy with his play so another dog to match (or at least tolerate) his energy would be best. He is also a bit of a humper. His upcoming neuter will hopefully help with that. He is not fostered with a cat so we aren’t sure how he would do but likely he would be to much for them. You can read his brothers post and get an idea of how he might behave. We don’t think he will be aggressive he’s just big, hyper at times and not fully trained. Slash isn’t fostered with kids currently. He’s a super sweet and loving boy so we suspect he would do great but maybe not with smaller kids. He’s big and still jumps up on people and doesn’t always realize his size. Temperament wise he would likely do well, training wise he is a bit too much for small kids currently. He has not shown any aggression over food, treats or toys toward other animals or humans. He patiently waits for his treats, graciously taking them among the other dogs without snatching. He allows us to take bones and toys away without a fuss. So far he hasn’t destroyed anything but we pick up things he shouldn’t have and monitor him when he’s out. Slash hasn’t been a very vocal guy at all. Only when he’s outside playing. He is very agile and athletic. He can easily jump baby gates and short fences. He really loves anything you’ll do with him. Playtime, training, cuddles. He’s a loyal boy ready to please his new best friend. He does have a high energy level. He needs both mental and physical exercise several times a day, every single day. He needs you to engage with him in games, training or activities that keep his mind and body active. Without this he can easily become frustrated with pent up energy and start showing negative behaviors. If you’re not serious about giving him the exercise he needs please pick a lower energy dog. Overall this guy has so much potential. He just needs the right owner to guide him and show him how to be his best self. He’s going to make someone the most loyal companion. ➡️Vet and home checks required. ➡️Fenced yard preferred Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) 🛑These dogs are banned from almost all rentals (to include most vacation rentals).
