Story
Meet Stride !! We recently took in this sweet litter and their mom from a local shelter. They are looking for indoor family homes. Their mom (Big Red) will have a separate post once she’s recovered from being a momma. Stride is a hound mix puppy and should be medium size when full grown. His mom is about 40 pounds at full weight and dad is unknown. He favors a beagle but may grow larger than that as his mom looks like a medium size hound. He currently weighs approx 6.2 pounds and is 12 weeks old. He will be given several sets of vaccines, dewormed, a microchip and neutered as part of his adoption. Stride is the more chill one. He’s sweet and way more laid back. He still loves to “talk” and be vocal. He’s super sweet and loving. He loves other dogs and loves kids. He has not met any cats yet but is young enough to learn. He is still young and learning all his training. He is not completely potty trained or leash trained yet. He has started crate training and does very well HOWEVER he is currently in the crate with his siblings, and it’s very likely that there will be some sleepless nights in your home with crate training once they are separated. He has not had any trouble sharing food treats and toys. *** These are NOT APARTMENT DOGS. Beagles/Hounds are very vocal dogs, it is just what they do. They bark and howl and make all the hound noises. They started howling at only 4 weeks old. We do not want a dog or family losing their home over the noise.*** Stride is currently active, happy, and playful. He has been raised inside and handled often since a very young age. He is very friendly and social. He is also smart and active. He loves to explore and play. He is an active puppy and will need lots of physical and mental stimulation to keep him happy and out of trouble. Hounds make amazing family pets. They are generally friendly and social. They do have a tendency to escape yards when bored. It is recommended to not leave them outside alone. They were bred to be hunting dogs and may take off over or under a fence to chase a woodland creature around. Adopting a young puppy is a ton of work. They will have lots of potty accidents, chew things up etc. You will need to help them learn things like leash walking, crate training and basic manners. It can be a lot of work but the reward is a dog that fits well into your family’s lifestyle if you invest proper time on training with them. Please carefully consider the time and effort a puppy requires before adopting. We do NOT adopt siblings into the same family. Before commenting on how sad etc, you feel that is please google “littermate syndrome” so you can understand why we take this precaution. It is done in the best interest of the puppies. Vet and home checks required. **No apartments due to how vocal they are. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com or for faster response message our Facebook Page directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Meet Snowflake !! This big beautiful puppy is looking for a great home. She has made so much progress in her foster home and is the sweetest thing ever. We saved Snowflake and her sister (and their mom) only a few hours before the first snowstorm hit us. They were living outside in a pen with minimal protection from the elements. They are doing really well learning to live inside and enjoy life as real dogs. (Mom is named Blizzard she is posted separately) Snowflake is a female and is approx 5 months old. She weighs 45 pounds. They appear to be hound and Great Pyrenees based off their size and mom’s looks. She will likely be larger dogs. Her mom is 70 pounds and dad is unknown. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of her adoption. Although she started her life outside in a pen she has really done a great job learning indoor house manners. She really enjoys life as part of a family instead of being outside. She has come so far and does so well now. Snowflake is a very sweet girl and extremely affectionate. She’s smart and has been learning things quickly. She loves to cuddle up with you on the couch or go outside and play. She has done fantastic with other dogs and kids. She likes to have another dog around to help adjust but doesn’t have to have one. She is fostered with kids and has done really well. She has not been fostered with cats so we are not sure how she would do. Snowflake has not had any trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. She is not completely potty trained but is learning. She has started crate training and can be a bit vocal in there as she prefers to be out with her people. She has done fine on car rides. She is definitely new to leash walking. She was terrified of the leash when she arrived but is starting to learn how it works now. We expect her to be a big and strong dog that will be fairly energetic. Please be prepared to exercise each and every day so she does not become pent up and display negative behaviors. Training well and often is very important so you don’t end up with a large dog you can’t control. Pyrenees and hounds are both known for escaping yards. They go over and under fences with a tendency to roam. You will need to supervise them when they are outside. If left alone outside you are asking for them to find a way out. So far snowflake has not tried to leave the yard but it’s possible she will at some point. These breeds are also well known for being loyal and loving family dogs. Story
Meet Blizzard !! We recently took in this sweet girl and her two puppies. They were living outside in a pen with a large snowstorm coming in. Thankfully we were able to get them all here and they are so grateful for indoor life. (Her puppies Snowflake and Icicle are posted separately) Blizzard is approx 2 years old female. She appears to be a Hound Pyrenees mix. She weighs 74 pounds. She has been given several sets of vaccines, dewormed, a microchip and spayed. She is sadly heartworm positive but her treatment is included in her adoption. Blizzard initially had no idea how to be inside but she’s learned so quickly. She’s really doing well and has exceeded our expectations. She is not fully potty trained but has already started going to the door to alert she needs to go out. She is good with crate training but isn’t the biggest fan of it. She can be vocal in protest. She was nervous on her car ride but didn’t do to bad. She doing really well with her leash training so far. Blizzard is fine with other dogs but mostly ignores them. She’s good with it without another dog in the home. We don’t know how she would do with cats. She’s been good with all the kids she’s met so far. She so far has a lower energy level but that will likely increase as she becomes more settled and confident with indoor life. So far she doesn’t seem to understand toys. She gathers sticks to chew on instead. She was probably never provided with toys before. Blizzard will jump a short fence. She will either need a 6ft fence or have someone dedicated to exercising and potting on leash. Having a safe place for her to run would be ideal. She has not had any trouble sharing food, treats and toys with humans or other dogs. This sweet and beautiful girl hasn’t had a real life so far but she’s ready to have that now. If you’re willing to put a little more work and training into her she’s going to be an amazing dog for you. Vet and home checks required. Can jump short fences. Located in Hampton VA. Story
Meet Luna !! Very sweet and low-key girl that is looking for a lap to sit on. Despite her breed she is not extremely active. She was adopted back in 2021 and sadly her adopter has some significant life circumstances preventing her from giving Luna the life she deserves. I can tell you Luna has been loved so much in her first home. She is ready to share that love with her new family. Luna is an approx 7 year old female Jack Russell mix. She currently weights 10 pounds and is full grown. She is already spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. She is heartworm negative. She was a bit difficult for the vet as she has some trust issues with strangers trying to restrain her. She is a very sweet and loving dog once she has a day or two to trust you. She is fearful at first and needs some space. After that she is very good about things. She would love a home that is not gone as often but has been able to handle a foster home where the family works a full day. Just as long as she gets lots of love and attention when you get home. Luna has done okay with smaller male dogs but really doesn’t care much for doggie friends. She is fostered with a male dog her size and does well but doesn’t really want much to do with him. Smaller male dogs that leave her alone would be the best match or a home without other dogs. She does not do well with female dogs. She has lived with cats in the past and done fine. ***The dog in the photos with her is Juno. We also took her back in to rescue. They have lived together however Luna is not always nice to Juno so they aren’t the happiest together*** She would do best in an adult home. She has never lived with kids and really doesn’t like a high energy household. She is fun and playful if you want to take her to do stuff but really likes to just lounge around on the couch with her family. We don’t think she would do the best with young children. Possibly teens that can leave her alone when she isn’t interested in being messed with. We were told she has some anxiety when left home alone and not crated. She has so far done really well crated at her foster home. She has also done great left out in the house to roam all night while her foster family sleeps. She will pull things through the crate and rip them up if she can reach them. Luna does decent on the leash when she is not scared. If she is scared, she will try to stop walking or pull away. She is fine on car rides. She is somewhat potty trained. She has been doing really well using puppy pads inside. She has not wanted to potty on the leash outside but may do better with a fenced yard. She has only had two accidents not on the puppy pads since she arrived and those were on the first day. She has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. She likes to sit on the couch and watch everything. You need to take it slow with her at first. She can get scared easily and try to bite for a day or two if you push her. After that she will love you and be comfortable with you. She does prefer women but is currently fostered with a male and adjusted to him quicker than we expected. Luna is going to make the right family very happy. She would love a low key home that would give her all the attention. She would prefer no other dogs or kids but may do okay with the right dog and the right age/temperament of kids. She really is a sweet girl that is ready to settle down in her forever home. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Doberman Pinscher German Shepherd Dog

Story
Meet Axl !! We took in this awesome puppy and his brother Slash from a crowded shelter. They are both awesome dogs that are super loyal and very smart. (Slash has been adopted) Axl is an approx 11 month old, male, Doberman mix. He has a docked tail and natural ears. Potential mixed with German Shepherd but we are unsure. He weighs 59 pounds. He has been neutered, is up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is Heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. Axl is a shy boy at first and then he’s your best friend. If you know the Doberman breed you know they are extremely loyal and loving dogs. He is all about you. He can be pushy with wanting to be near you, jump on you or trying to crawl up in your lap. He really needs a firm consistent owner to show him how to channel all that into positive behaviors. He’s so smart and eager to please. We’ve found that he thrives with a fenced yard. His foster doesn’t have a fence so it’s been challenging to meet his energy needs so he can focus on training. He spent a week with a fenced yard recently and after a day of adjustment he really started to show improvement with everything. He’s still a puppy that needs guidance and training. He will thrive with routine and both mental and physical exercise in his new home. He definitely needs an understanding owner as he takes awhile to adjust to new surroundings and his training will temporarily regress until he gets comfortable. He is crate trained but will potty in the crate for the first day or two while adjusting and then he stops. He’s great on car rides and seems to enjoy them. He’s decent on the leash but will pull at times. He loves toys and is very toy motivated. He definitely needs to go on daily walks. It really stimulates his brain and helps him behave so much better. Axl is a bit of an oddball with his potty training. We think he’s a shy pooper lol. He will hold it and hold it and then poop in his crate until he feels safe to poop outside. It’s harder to give him “privacy” when there’s no fence and you have to keep him on the leash. With a fenced yard and a little patience from you he figures it out quickly. He is great with other dogs and would do well with another dog in the home to show him the ropes. He is a bit hyper and pushy with his play so another dog to match or at least tolerate his energy would be best. He is also a bit of a humper with the ladies. He was recently neutered so we expect that to fade away as his hormones change. He is fostered with a cat and isn’t aggressive but doesn’t respect their boundaries. He annoys the cats and despite swats and hisses he hasn’t learned to stop. If you have cats you’ll need to be very proactive with training him regarding what is and isn’t appropriate around them. He’s not trying to hurt them but does not know how to properly interact with them. Axl isn’t fostered with kids currently. He’s a super sweet and loving boy so we suspect he would do great but maybe not with smaller kids. He’s big and still jumps up on people and doesn’t always realize his size. Temperament wise he would likely do well, training wise he is a bit too much for small kids currently. He has not shown any aggression over food, treats or toys toward other animals or humans. He LOVES toys, especially soft toys and tennis balls. He really loves anything you’ll do with him. Playtime, training, cuddles. He’s a loyal boy ready to please his new best friend. Axl has a high energy level. He needs both mental and physical exercise several times a day, every single day. He needs you to engage with him in games, training or activities that keep his mind and body active. Without this he can easily become frustrated with pent up energy and start showing negative behaviors. If you’re not serious about giving him the exercise he needs please pick a lower energy dog. Overall this guy has so much potential. He just needs the right owner to guide him and show him how to be his best self. He’s going to make someone the most loyal companion. ➡️Vet and home checks required. ➡️Fenced yard preferred Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) 🛑These dogs are banned from almost all rentals (to include most vacation rentals). Do not apply to adopt if you have not called and verified with your landlord that you can own one. 🛑 ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. ‼️
