Story
Bullfrog is a special kind of dog. Think of him as a cat in the form of a dog...a big dog. He is going to need a special kind of person who is going to give him space and allow Bullfrog to just be...well, Bullfrog. If you have ever known a cat, you will understand what we mean by this. Bullfrog was picked up as a stray on the southside and taken in by a humane organization that tried their best to find him a home. He had been there a while (eight months) and so they reached out to us, thinking that a change in scenery may do him some good. In the time that he has been with us we discovered that his teeth were a mess (he had to have 8 of them pulled). He has a degenerative condition in his neck. He does not like having his neck touched. Bullfrog does well in playgroup with the other dogs and is excellent about letting us know when he is in the mood for human company - or he if would rather just hang out on his bed. If you are looking for a hiking buddy, snuggle bug, or a dog that you can wrestle with - that is not Bullfrog. If you are looking for a dog that would make a great companion for another laid back dog, we hope that you might consider Bullfrog. If you looking for a very intelligent dog that needs his space, we encourage you to come meet Bullfrog.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Finn is available to meet qualified applicants BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.Please email contact@animalaidsociety.org for more information.Finian was found wandering the streets of Hampton on March 16th, his back leg injured and his head, face, eyes, and mouth burned with acid. This poor boy was left to fend for himself. Luckily, the amazing people who found him were able to get him to The COVE (Center Of Veterinary Expertise) for care and comfort that first night, then he went to stay with our friends at Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter for a few days, and now he's with us. We may never know who did this to Finn, but we do know that even though he's been through a lot... the only time he cries is when he's left alone. Over the past few months, Finn's face has healed, his vision has improved (but will never be great), and he underwent very intricate orthopedic surgery to repair his back leg. Finn desperately wants to be with people, but, he's never really had a chance to be a "normal" dog with loving humans. He's still learning. Sometimes he's fearful, sometimes he's over-excited and mouthy, and sometimes he's a calm snuggly dude. Finn will only be considered for adoption to a home with no children (nobody under the age of 18), and no other pets. He needs an experienced person to help him take his next steps towards recovery.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
How has your life changed in the past year and a half?Ups and downs? Joys and sorrows? Stress and peace? All of the experiences that keep things interesting, that make life real! Well, in the past year and a half, nothing has changed for Max.He arrived at Animal Aid over 550 days ago, and still he waits, desperately lonely, bored, and losing hope. Our amazing volunteers do their best to keep Max's spirits up -- they bring him new toys, take him for rides and walks, wrap him up in blankets and take naps with him (Max is one of the snuggliest dogs you'll ever meet), but nothing can overcome the crushing monotony of life in a cage.Max recently began working with our trainer, and has demonstrated that he's so smart, and so eager to learn and please!! Adopt Max, and Animal Aid Society will cover continued training sessions at your home to address Max's quirks -- he can be anxious around strangers, and he's a big boy who can do big tugs on a leash.Max is stunningly gorgeous, with the most soulful brown eyes. Look into them, and they'll tell you everything there is to know about Max -- he NEEDS to be loved. More than anything, he just wants to belong. Please bring him home, and help show him how.Max would love to meet you any day between 9am and noon. He'd do best in an adult-only home with no other pets (Max loves playing with other dogs, but he can get protective of his humans, so living with other dogs may be tough). He's been waiting way too long at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
I'm an adult with a job and a mortgage, yet the other day I snatched a food bowl away from a fellow volunteer and shouted, "mine!"It was Mika's food bowl, and I had been looking forward to feeding him all morning!NOBODY greets you like Mika -- He spins! He makes joyful chatterbox sounds! He rubs his soft self against you and looks at you like you hung the stars and moon! You don't have to bring him food -- Mika's overjoyed to see you no matter what -- but it's nice to have something tasty to give him after he puts on such a show for you. Mika is a 2-year-old Border Collie Mix -- healthy, affectionate, smart, joyful and loyal! He immediately connects with you -- talk to him, and he really seems to be listening! Mika was a FABULOUS dog in a home (housetrained with excellent manners), but Mika made it his mission to herd and "protect" his family's four-year-old human, and that put everyone, including Mika, on edge. So, in order to relax and be the happiest, calmest Mika he can be, we're looking for a home with no young children. Mika would also prefer a home without other pets -- this way, he can enjoy life instead of constantly working to organize and manage everything! If you want a constant companion who's eager to learn and please, who loves to play and cuddle, and who'd enjoy long hikes and neighborhood strolls, then you want Mika! Come meet Mika, and you'll understand why I almost ruined a friendship with a fabulous volunteer in order to feed him (yes -- I apologized later. But I'd do it again.). We're open every day from 9am to noon (including weekends and holidays. Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA, 23666.Interested? Story
Please pick our Daisy! She is one of the most affectionate, devoted dogs I've ever met... which makes the fact that this is her third time at our shelter even more heartbreaking! In 2021, pups Daisy and Millie were surrendered by their family for "fighting with the cat."They were adopted together, but Daisy was returned in 2022 for fighting with Millie. Daisy ADORES humans, but living with other dogs stresses her out. Daisy doesn't pull at the leash or try to pursue other dogs -- at the shelter, she peacefully walks and lives side-by-side with them. She just can't share a house or be off-leash with other pets. During her second stay at the shelter, we learned that sweet Daisy is terrified of small children! She doesn't target them, but if they approach her, she cowers and barks. In 2022, Daisy was adopted again! She was a loyal and loving companion (a little needy -- she wants her people close... no, closer!), and life was good... until the couple moved to be near family. Suddenly, Daisy found herself surrounded by small children and in off-leash encounters with other dogs. Daisy was overwhelmed. She and a dog fought, the kids were scared, and now Daisy is back.Daisy is only 5-years-old, and she's already suffered so much loss - she lost three families! But Daisy hasn't lost hope. She hasn't lost her incredible love for people, her endearing wiggles, or her desire to learn and please! We were so sad when Daisy was returned... and she's been doing her best to cheer us up with kisses and cuddles and play! Please come pick our Daisy -- be the sunshine she needs to thrive, and she will brighten your world!Ok, just to be clear - Daisy needs a home with no other pets (cats or dogs), and no children under 12.Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton VA 23693 - Open every day between 9AM and 12 Noon.Interested?
