Story
Cindy is a 5-year-old bundle of energy and affection who's on the lookout for a forever home that understands her unique personality. She originally came to us on May 23, 2023, was adopted in January 2024, but was returned in August 2024. Now, she's ready for a second chance with the right family. Cindy is a true cuddle bug who loves giving kisses and soaking up all the affection she can get! She's always up for a game or a romp around the yard, so she'll fit right in with an active family that enjoys staying on the go. Though Cindy is dog-selective, she can do well with the right canine companion, but a Meet & Greet with any potential dog siblings is a must. Cindy also isn't suited for homes with small animals, including cats. If you're ready for a loving, high-energy companion who's full of personality, Cindy can't wait to meet you and show you just how much love she has to give!

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
*LONGEST RESIDENT* Sammi's story began on August 30, 2022. We rescued her from an overcrowded high-kill shelter in a neighboring county where she had been placed on their euthanasia list after being confiscated in an abuse case. She was severely malnourished, all of her little bones painfully visible. Her fur was thin with bald spots where it had fallen out. Her little body was covered in scabbed cuts and scars from abuse by awful humans. Sammi was about 2 years old at that time and it was evident that she'd had several litters of puppies in her young years. Our Humane Society veterinary team, shelter staff, and volunteers got to work as soon as Sammi arrived to heal her little body and soul and show her that humans could be kind, caring, and most importantly, trusted. After extensive care and rehab, Sammi was adopted from our shelter on Valentine's Day 2023. Sadly, her adopter did not have the time to work with her. In October 2023, Sammi was surrendered again. Although physically healthy, she has now developed separation anxiety, is fearful of strangers, and is reactive to other dogs. We can tell you from experience that once you have Sammi's trust, you have unconditional love. She will happily sit in your lap for chest and belly rubs until she falls asleep snuggled against you. She loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls. She loves to go on walks, car rides, and run and play in the yard. If you fill a kiddie pool with water she'll splash and play in it every day. Sammi will need to be the only pet in her new home with people who can spend time with her. She would be a good fit for someone who works from home, works part-time, or is retired. She needs an active person who can walk and play with her every day. If you can provide a loving home where Sammi is given the time and attention she needs to develop trust with her family, please come to our shelter to meet her and see if Sammi is the right fit for you. She will love you forever! For more information on Sammi and the other animals waiting to join their new families, please email adoptions@humanemanatee.org or call 941-747-8808 x 312.

Story
Smiley is a happy-go-lucky 2-year-old pup with a big grin and even bigger energy! This playful girl is still learning the ropes of being the best dog she can be and is very much a work in progress. Smiley has a ton of energy she hasn’t quite figured out how to channel yet, which is often shown in her extreme mouthiness. While she doesn’t mean any harm, her bites can be strong and may hurt, and our team has been working on training her to direct her energy to a different activity. She’s looking for an experienced home with adults who can help her learn household manners and show her the ropes. She absolutely adores snuggles and will happily curl up with her people once she’s gotten her wiggles out. She would do best as the only pet in the home with adults who are around often to guide her and give her the love and attention she craves. She will need additional training for some of her behaviors, but our team at HSMC is ready to give you the best guidance in making her into a great pet. Smiley is eager to learn and even more eager to be someone’s best friend!

Story
Madonna is a gentle 3-year-old who recently gave birth to a beautiful litter of six puppies, and now she's ready to focus on herself and find a loving forever home. While she's a bit shy at first, Madonna has a heart full of love to give once she gets comfortable with new people. With a little patience, you'll soon discover her favorite things-ear scratches and belly rubs! After a tough beginning, Madonna is currently loving her single life, and would like a home without any animal siblings. Madonna is currently heartworm positive and will need to undergo treatment, but don't worry-the cost of her treatment is covered by her adoption fee, so all she needs now is a cozy home, time to relax, and someone who will help her go through her recovery treatment. Prior to adopting, HSMC staff will give you her treatment plan and be there to assist every step of the way. If you're ready to give this sweet momma the love and attention she deserves, Madonna will be an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion. She's waiting for the right person to give her a second chance at happiness!
