MONDRE Available for Adoption FAST FACTSMale Mixed Breed, 2.5 Years-Old, 57 PoundsAffectionate, Gentle, Calm, Playful, SmartMedium energyPeople Friendly but reactive to certain peopleDog FriendlyPotty TrainedCrate TrainedFenced Back Yard Required Greetings from Mondre. You may recognize my face from the CARE website, as I’ve been available for adoption for the past few months. While I hoped to find my forever home by now, I’ve so enjoyed living with my fabulous foster family. Because of them, I now understand what it means to be loved and treated with kindness—something I’d never experienced in my previous life.   To recap, I came from an overcrowded, high-kill shelter in Texas. Not much is known about my past, but it definitely included mistreatment that makes me initially leery of strangers, particularly strong/assertive men. But it doesn’t take me long to warm up, get acquainted, and start requesting pets and belly rubs. I adore being outside playing, whether chasing balls, chewing on Nylabones, or simply sitting next to my person and taking in nature. I also like going on walks and really appreciate it when my foster mom or dad gives me time to sniff and roll around in the grass. And don’t get me started about how much fun car rides are–especially when they include a stop at McDonalds for chicken nuggets!  I’m proud to report I’m a very well-mannered pooch, quiet and calm around the house and both potty trained and crate trained (not that I need one). I also know several basic commands, including sit, down, fetch, and come. Since I’m very treat-motivated, I’m a quick study and veryinterested in continuing to learn new things. Finally, I get along well with other canines. In fact, my foster family includes an elderly pooch, and I’m incredibly respectful of her. I hope that taking a fresh look at my bio makes you interested in getting to know me. If so, please fill out and adoption application ASAP! Until then…. I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. TOBY Available for adoption FAST FACTSMale, Medium Mixed Breed, 51lbs, 2 years oldSweet, Loving, ShyLow / Medium EnergySlow to warm up to menDog FriendlyKids UnknownCats UnknownPotty TrainedCrate Trained Hi everyone, I’m Toby, though my foster family has been calling me Obi Wan Kenobi which everyone thinks is really cute! I was found as a stray in rural Missouri and dropped off at the local shelter..  When no one claimed me, and my time was running out, I was taken in by a local woman who partners with CARE. I was soon on my way to Skokie, where I was placed in a wonderful foster home.  I’d never before experienced such kindness and affection and I wasn’t sure what to do. I was actually afraid of the attention but now I understand that loving homes exist, and I adore the attention!  I still get a little nervous  around new people and situations, but with gentle encouragement I’m getting used to change and my foster mom tells me how brave I am.  I do get nervous around small children who run toward me and I bark to let them know, but I have no interest in hurting them. In fact, if they continue toward me, I hide behind my foster mom.  My favorite activity is staying close by your side and doing whatever you’re doing.  Whether it’s household chores, assisting you in the kitchen (I’m an excellent taste-tester), watching TV, or anything else, you’ll always have a loyal buddy to keep you company.  And while I’m very low-key around the house, I do like to run around outside.  Chasing squirrels and birds and fetching balls—so much fun!  I also enjoy going on walks (I have good leash manners) and playing with other friendly dogs we meet along the way (and ignoring those who bark at me). I also like cats. They fascinate me. My foster family has two of them and while they don’t want to play, they’re cool with sniffing, nuzzling and an occasional cuddle on the couch.  I’m proud to report that I am potty-trained. Sometimes I forget to let my person know it’s time to go outside and suddenly it’s too late. But my foster family is helping me communicate better and this doesn’t happen very often. Now that I’m on a regular schedule, I can make it through the night without be crated, waiting to do my business until morning.  I’m crossing my paws (see photo) that my bio inspires you to fill out an adoption application right away and schedule a visit.  Please overlook my initial shyness and give me the opportunity to get to know you and become your new best friend! I have been neutered and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. I’m a sweet and loving girl in search of a home of my own with a patient person/family to help build my confidence and allow me to become a super star. Because here’s the thing. Although not much is known about my background, other than I was a stray residing in an overcrowded Texas facility before CARE rescued me, my life on the streets was definitely a scary time. As a result, despite my natural calm and mellow demeanor, I can get excited about things that move outside —bikes, strollers, and other things on wheels. Please understand--I just don't understand why they are going so fast but I’ll pull hard on the leash and bark when something makes me nervous. My friends at the shelter are working with me on loose-leash walking, and I’m improving. Nonetheless, I’ll need a strong handler and training classes to help me become relaxed and comfortable in all settings.  Added note, I love to walk with other dogs and a rural setting is my wish in life. Now here’s the good stuff. I adore people and like to sit by their feet and get lots of hugs and pets. I get along great with other pooches, and it would be terrific to share my life with a canine sibling.  I’m very smart and already know a number of basic commands. I’m good at entertaining myself with toys, in particular peanut butter-filled Kongs, and am a whiz at solving every food puzzle. Finally, I’m nearly 100% when it comes to potty training, and you’ll never have to ask me twice to go in my crate, as I consider it my den. I do ask for a fenced in yard as I have energy to run around for a while and play. The CARE staff and volunteers tell me I am the perfect pup and adorable.  I just need some basic training, another dog that loves my energy and playtime.  Do I sound like the pup you’ve been waiting for? Then please fill out an adoption application right away, so that we can meet and begin our amazing adventure together! I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. Story
FERN Available for Foster  We are currently looking for a month long foster! Hello everyone! I'm Fern, charming canine observer with a heart as big as my curious eyes. Although my journey started as a stray, I was fortunate enough to be picked up by Chicago Animal Care and Control. Then…I clearly won the hearts of the C.A.R.E. Kennel Captain team with my joyful, goofy smile.  I am a delightful girl who finds pure joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether perched on a bench, a cozy couch, or even a wall, my favorite pastime is watching the world unfold before me. True to my unique personality, I prefer leisurely strolls, especially when accompanied by a trusted human companion. However, my true love lies in cozying up near the kitchen counter, eagerly awaiting any opportunity for a tasty treat! Kindness, respect and treats are the key to my heart. Beyond my endearing qualities, some of my favorite pastimes include:  indulging in a relaxing bath, gleefully pulling apart soft toys (without swallowing, of course!), helping to clean any dish or container in sight, and going on thrilling adventures (like car rides or Boslys). In my ideal home, tranquility reigns supreme. I would thrive as your one and only furry companion in a quiet atmosphere where I can fully unwind. I have learned a lot in my time with C.A.R.E…. I know many tricks and want to show you. I need a forever human who will keep my education going. So, if you're seeking a loyal companion who delights in life's small wonders and brings joy wherever she goes, look no further than me! With my infectious spirit and heartwarming  personality, I would hope to steal your heart from the moment you meet me. I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. HENRY Available for adoption. FAST FACTSMale, Medium Mixed breed, 52 pounds, 1 1/2 years oldFriendly, Affectionate, Gentle, Eager to PleaseModerately ActivePeople FriendlyDog FriendlyNo CatsKids over 6 years oldPotty TrainedCrate Trained Greetings from your friend Henry. When CARE rescued me from Chicago Care and Animal Control, where I was brought in as a stray, I was one sick puppy. Thin, weak, and suffering from pneumonia, I received the best medical treatment and then was nursed back to health by my wonderful foster mom. Now that I’m ready to find my forever home, let me tell you a bit about myself. My foster mom describes me as a real people lover. My #1 activity is hanging around and schmoozing with humans, but I’m also good at entertaining myself. Indoors, I enjoy chewing on peanut butter-stuffed Nylabones and getting treats out of my orange roller ball. Another of myfavorite pastimes is watching the birds and squirrels from the living room window—although chasing them around fenced-in backyard is even more fun. I’m a very smart boy who already knows several commands, including come, sit, down, stand, and touch. I always signal when I need to go outside to do my business, wait patiently while my harness or Halti headcollar (both stop me from pulling on the leash) is put on, and sit when I come back in to have my feet wiped off. I reluctantly go in my crate when asked, but I don’t really need it. Just tell me “bed” or “rug,” and I’ll go there and settle. Although my leash skills are improving, I can still be reactive to other dogs (it’s unclear whether I interested in playing or just don’t want them in my space). So I’ll need a confident handler to commit to continuing working with me in this area. Finally, I initially had some digestive issues, but these have pretty much disappeared thanks to a specific and consistent diet. Summing up, I’m a gentle, loving, big-hearted guy who dreams of being your best canine companion through all of life’s adventures. Are you ready to team up? Then please fill out an adoption application right away, because I can’t wait to meet you!   I have been microchipped and will be neutered and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. But hey, it's not all bad because the volunteers here are like family to me. They've been taking great care of me while I wait for my forever home.   I'm all about the great outdoors – especially walks. Seriously, just mention the word, and I'll be at the door, leash in mouth, ready to go. There's something about exploring new places and sniffing all the smells that really gets me excited.   But don't worry, I'm not just a nature lover. I'm a people pup too! I thrive on human companionship and love nothing more than being near my favorite humans. Whether it's lounging on the couch together or playing with my favorite toys, I'm happiest when I'm with you.   Oh, speaking of toys, I'm a bit of a toy connoisseur. Give me a squeaky toy or a chew toy, and I'll be entertained for hours. And let's not forget about treats – crunchy treats are my weakness!   So, if you're looking for a laid-back, easygoing pup to join your family, look no further. I'm ready and waiting to bring love, laughter, and a whole lot of tail wags into your life!   I have been spayed and microchipped and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines.
