Story
Macy arrived at NCCR in mid-November after she was discarded by a breeder who had no further use for her. She is an approximately 10-year-old female Husky. Macy seems to be at least partially blind in her left eye. She is a friendly girl who seems to love attention and petting and enjoys being with people. She knows how to walk on-leash, but enjoys her down time as much as her walks. Macy is able to climb low fences, but seems to do well with the shelter’s 6’ fences. She may need work on house training, but seems to be doing very well with it as long as she is kept on a routine schedule. She does not seem to like other dogs much - probably a result of being a breeder mom, she had to always watch out for her pups! Typical of Huskies, she is a shedder, but she loves to be brushed, which makes grooming much easier! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you.   If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them. NYS Registration #RR028

Story
Kavic arrived at NCCR in mid-November after he was discarded by a breeder who had no further use for him. He is an 8-year-old neutered male Husky. He is quite friendly and loves attention from people. He also knows how to walk on-leash, and is enthusiastic about playing with his toys – he always has a ball in his mouth! He will need work on house training, but catches on quickly with supervision and consistency. Typical of his breed, Kavic can be quite vocal at times, and he enjoys digging a good hole to lie down in when it’s warm outside. He may be able to get along with other friendly dogs if introduced very gradually 1-on-1, but may do best as the only dog in the home. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Story
Roo arrived at NCCR on 3/27/24, rescued when her owners could no longer provide care for her. She is an approximately 6-7-year-old female Australian Cattle Dog. Roo is very friendly to people, and lived with several other dogs, but seems a little intolerant of dogs that pester her or get in her space too much. She knows how to throw her weight around (and she could stand to lose a few pounds!), so she may be too strong for very small children. She has received a full veterinary checkup and was spayed and brought up to date with vaccinations and needed care. Roo may need more work on her house-training skills, as she has some accidents if not kept on a schedule. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Story
Sarge arrived at NCCR on 5/18/24, impounded by the local DCO. Now he is looking for a forever family of his own that will give him the love and commitment he deserves! Sarge is an approximately 7-year-old neutered male Bulldog mix. He gets along with most other dogs, and is very friendly toward people. Sarge even knows some basic commands, and seems to be house trained.  More info to come as we get to know him better! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Story
December update: Ruby has lost 12 lbs.! Her foster mom only has good things to say about her and that someone is missing out on a great companion to share their life with! Ruby update on Sept. 20th from her foster mom: Need a Netflix & Chill partner? Someone to look at you adoringly? Keep you warm on those chilly Fall evenings? Ruby is your girl! Ruby joined her foster home pack a few weeks ago and here is what her foster mom has to say about her: “She has been a complete pleasure. She is jovial, sweet, quiet, polite, and just happy to be. Ruby is a corgi mix (medium in size), 8 years old and a tad overweight but we are working on that, and she’s already lost weight! She is not your typical 8 year old dog for sure. She is very smart and observant and quickly picked up the daily routine. She readily welcomes our array of cast of canine characters and engages in play. She is quite strong on leash, so will need work with that, but otherwise, she is great! This poor baby girl lost her mama, when she had to enter an assisted living facility, no one in the family stepped up to care for Ruby. She was beyond scared and unhappy upon entering our shelter, that’s when my pack and I stepped in. Ruby gets along wonderfully with people, dogs & cats. She is a perfect companion and just loves her lovins! 😊 Ruby update from her foster mom:  This girl is just that, very sweet and quiet. Ruby  likes to hang with her human, canine & feline friends. She does not need a crate & prefers to laze near her humans. She does need work on her leash skills as she does pull. We are working on her weight loss in her foster home. Ruby is just a really happy low key gal and no doubt she will be happier when she gets down to a healthier weight❤️ Ruby arrived at NCCR on 8/28/24, taken in when her owner could no longer care for her. She is an approximately 8-year-old spayed female mixed breed. Ruby weighs in at a whopping 78.5 lbs. and is in desperate need of weight loss and exercise. Unfortunately, she was not receiving much, if any, activity in her previous home, and was being fed far too many treats. We’re told that Ruby gets along well with most other dogs, prefers to sleep in a crate at night, and likes all the people she meets. She is hoping to be adopted by a family that can help her meet her weight loss goals, and who is home most of the time, as she does not like to be left alone for long. Ruby is house trained, walks well on a leash but sometimes pulls, and she knows several basic commands. If you’re looking for an exercise buddy and constant companion, Ruby might be your girl! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application at caninerescue.org.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Story
Mac is staying in his home until he is adopted. Meet and greets will be arranged for approved applications! Fill out an application at caninerescue.org. Mac is a 3 year old Husky/Shepherd mix that weighs 70+ lbs. He is fully house trained, and able to be left alone in the house. He is good with kids, adults and other dogs. He has not interacted with cats and other animals so not sure how he will respond to those. He is a homebody that likes to be with people and always wants to be near you. He's a loving dog and will be your best friend if you scratch him behind his ears. Mac will get on his hind legs to give you a hug if you signal him. Mac likes to go for walks but requires a harness or other contraption to help with pulling. His favorite toys are ropes to play tug of war with. He will also play with a ball but he likes to play keep away. Mac knows basic commands and will walk behind you up and down stairs instead of running past you. He isn't afraid of loud noises or thunderstorms but a green garbage bin is his worst enemy. Because Mac is so much of a homebody he hasn't done well with being left alone in places like a groomer and boarder. He is anxious and causes himself to get sick in these situations so has recently started anxiety medication to help with this and any stress in these situations.  Due to work changes and constant travel of the family they would like to place him with a loving family who will be there for him.  Does Mac sound like the dog for you?  If so, send in your application! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application.
