Story
My name is Turbo and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 6 y.o. and was rescued by SIRA from a breeding facility. Now I live in Columbus, OH. You guys – I had NO IDEA there was so much out here in the world! It’s so much fun to explore it all. Today I figured out how to climb up on the kitchen table. And from there, I jumped on the kitchen counter. Aha! Lots of interesting stuff up there. Hopped right into the dryer when foster dad left it open. It’s the perfect cozy, warm den! Speaking of humans, I’m still getting used to them. My foster dads have been so nice, but I’m not used to that, so I’m still shy and skittish when they come too close. But when they tell me how sweet I am and what a good boy I am and give me head scritches – that sure feels good, so I’m considering being braver. Things I like about being rescued: Taking naps! I’m a good napper. I go into my crate and shut the door behind me when I want some quiet time. I love meeting other dogs and playing outside! I’ve learned a lot from watching them (like how to jump on the kitchen chair to reach the table…). It’s interesting to watch how they interact with their people. Looking out the window is another favorite thing – my very own big-screen TV that’s always on! I like to play with stuff like pants and shoes and hats and socks. I haven’t figured out toys yet. Chasing my tail and rolling around on my back are fun though. I’m potty trained and will sleep through the night in my closed crate. I won’t make noise unless I need to go outside. I’m neutered, health, vaccinated and weigh 21 lbs. My perfect forever home would have a securely fenced yard where I could run and jump and play or an active family who likes long walks and trips to the park. I’d love a nice dog friend to show me the ropes. I haven’t met any cats or small kids yet, but I think little kids would scare me a lot. If you live in the Midwest and want a handsome, dude like me to explore the world with, then I’m your guy! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA know if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA can introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Melvin and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 2 y.o. and I came to my foster home in Columbus, OH, from a commercial breeding facility. So far, I like it here! My favorite thing is going for long walks. I love being outside! There are so many interesting smells and critters to try to chase. I am a good climber and a sneaky escape artist, so if my forever home has a fenced yard, it better be secure with no way to climb or squeeze out. I like human attention – on my terms. I love head, neck and butt scratches. I also like treats! I’m very food motivated, which helps with training. I also like my crate. It’s my special man cave. I have a comfy blanket there and if you move it, I’ll re-arrange it back to just the way I like it. I like hanging out there. There are so many new things about living in a home with humans. I get spooked by sudden movements and and I really don’t like loud noises like thunder, fireworks or cars and trucks. I’m not really into toys, but I do like to play – I’ll zoom around and run right into glass doors or windows thinking I go through to get outside. Foster dad says that I’m a stubborn, goofy, moody teenager. In other words, a classic Shiba. I’ve got a sweet and affectionate side just under the surface with good manners. Other times I just want to hang out in my man cave and be anti-social. I would be fine being the only dog in my forever home, but I warm up to low-key dogs after gradual introductions in a neutral space. I might be standoffish at first, until I learn that the other dog isn’t going to steal my food. No crazy puppies or little kids, please! That’s too much for me and I get snarky. And since I’m such a perfect Shiba, would not share space well with cats or other small pets. I’ve got plenty of prey drive and would chase them. I’m a handsome and healthy boy – neutered and vaccinated – and I weigh 25 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a walking or hiking buddy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to be an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet.

Story
Bixby is a sweet dog that I adopted from a shelter several years ago. He is approximately 5 years old and around 65 lbs. I am not able to care for Bixby and exercise him the way he needs on walks. His main behavior issue is pulling on walks and lunging- although he is generally friendly with other dogs. I don't have the right home for a large dog and physically can not handle him. I’m looking to rehome asap.

Story
Trixx came from a rural shelter with little chance of finding a home. She is a young girl with lots of love to give. She likes to go on walks, loves her chew toys, is housebroken and crate trained. She is 1 year old and full grown at 35 pounds. She is in foster with cats and when they swat her she knows to leave them alone. She likes to play with the big dogs but plays a bit too rough for smaller dogs or timid cats. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an online adoption application at https://colonycats.org/adoption_app.html to expedite the process.  Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly.    July 15, 2024, 9:57 am

Story
Meet Bullet, affectionately known as Big Bertha, a gentle giant with a heart as big as her frame! Born around April 6, 2017, this lovely lady is believed to be primarily a Black Lab mix, though her impressive size and striking looks suggest she might also have a bit of Newfoundland, Great Dane, or Mastiff in her. Bullet has a sleek, medium-length coat that's perfect for petting. She is the epitome of a well-mannered companion, being leash trained, potty trained, and having a calm, low-energy demeanor that makes her an ideal match for both adults and considerate children. Bullet thrives with boundaries and doesn't appreciate being manhandled, preferring a gentle touch and respectful interaction. She is a social butterfly when it comes to other dogs, getting along splendidly with her canine companions. However, Bullet isn't fond of cats, so a feline-free home would be best for her. Since coming into foster care on April 6, 2024, Bullet has shown her love for sunbathing in the yard and enjoying leisurely car rides. She's always up for an adventure, but she also treasures her couch time, where she'll gently nudge you until you make room for her. If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and gentle companion who enjoys the simple pleasures in life, Bullet is ready to join your family and fill your days with warmth and joy. Adopt Bullet, and you'll have a steadfast friend who's always up for both adventures and cozy couch cuddles. July 15, 2024, 9:57 am

Story
Meet Ace, a charming and adventurous medium-sized dog with a beautiful short-haired coat in shades of tan and white. Ace's estimated date of birth is April 6, 2020, and while we're not sure of his exact breed, he might be a mix of breeds like Labrador Retriever, Boxer, Smooth Fox Terrier, or German Shepherd. Ace was brought to us on December 16, 2022, and has been thriving in a foster home since then. He loves spending time in the yard, riding shotgun in the car, and is always ready for a new adventure. At home, Ace is a cuddle enthusiast who prefers to sit on the sofa with you or snuggle up in your bed, often bringing his favorite lamb toy along. Ace is fully potty trained and gets along well with other dogs. However, he does have a tendency to chase cats that don't stand up to him, so a cat-free home or one with confident cats would be ideal. If you're looking for a loyal and fun-loving companion, Ace might be the perfect addition to your family. Come meet Ace and see if he's the one you've been looking for! July 15, 2024, 9:57 am
