Story
ABOUT ME... I have been so excited to tell everyone about myself! My name is Madison, but most people call me Maddy. I am a 6-year-old, chihuahua mix with stunning eyes. I became a part of rescue when my mommy became ill. Another wonderful family member took me in and was taking great care of me. She loves me a ton, but I get a bit anxious around the kids, therefore, she reached out to COPAW to find me a forever home. I know this was a hard decision for her, but it was also a necessary decision. I will never forget her love and kindness. I AM GREAT WITH... I love adults, other dogs, naps, and exploring my surroundings. My foster home does not have cats, so I am not sure if I would embrace them or not. I sleep through the night without making a sound. I love to cuddle and be beside my human. I walk great on my leash. My foster mom says I am no trouble at all, I am so sweet and quiet it is unreal. I like to follow my foster mom and around just to see if she is doing anything fun. I AM STILL WORKING ON... Since I came to my foster mom's house I have had a few accidents. I was great at going outside to potty before I came here. She said not to worry, it is probably the change in environment. I am working hard and doing a lot better now that I have been here for a while. My foster mom does not put me in a crate, she does not think it is necessary, because I am a good girl, I do not mess with anything in the house. I have been working on my weight. It got a little out of control in my former home. I have made progress and would like my forever home to continue to help me get my fabulous figure back. I AM NOT GOOD WITH... I am not good with kids. They are cute, but they make me a little anxious. **All animals in our care are spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (age 1 & up), given preventatives, and provided with initial vaccinations AT MINIMUM. Story
ABOUT ME: Hi!! I’m Briana, Bri for short. But I respond to “puppy dog” because that’s what my toddler foster brother calls me. I am SO sweet, SO cuddly, and 100% puppy. I AM GREAT WITH: All people! I currently live with a 10 year old and a 2.5 year old and I am gentle (but excited) with the toddler. I eagerly sit outside his door every morning and am going to make the BEST fur sister. I am ALL cuddles all the time. I get along well with other doggies and I am very playful! I AM STILL WORKING ON: Potty training. I do best with a schedule (when mom has weird work days, I’m more accident prone). I’ve never met a cat! I do okay on a leash but I am SO excited about everything. I do well in my crate for a few hours but I’ve never been left for long. And we’re still working on what’s mine to put in my mouth, toddler toys versus my chew toys! I do “sit” and “drop it” pretty well! I AM NOT GOOD WITH: I match the excitement in the room so sometimes it gets a little hectic. I am also VERY food motivated and this toddler hasn’t made it easy for me to learn to not eat food from people so my foster mom keeps us separated when he eats! **All animals in our care are spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (age 1 & up), given preventatives, and provided with initial vaccinations AT MINIMUM. Story
ABOUT ME… Hello, my name is Lola… or as my human foster brother calls me “the most cutest girl ever!” I am a German Shepherd mix puppy and am super playful. I’ve never met a toy or treat that I didn’t like! When I first came into the rescue, I had a lot to learn but with time and patience, my foster siblings (both hooman and furry) have taught me a lot about being in a home. I AM GREAT WITH… I get along great with the other dogs and the children in the home (ages 4 and 8). My foster family also has a cat but I’m not really interested in him. I’m doing really well at keeping my crate dry at night, too! I listen well when it’s bedtime and go to my crate when told to. I AM STILL WORKING ON… My manners and potty training during the day. Sometimes I think that your fingers are a toy but I’m getting better with a lot of positive redirection. I still do have occasional accidents in the house but I am really working on it. Foster mom like to clap and cheer me on when I potty outside which motivates me to try even harder. I AM NOT GOOD WITH… Something the hoomans call a vaccum cleaner. I really like to attack that thing. I REQUIRE… Some patience while I still get acclimated to life in a house. It would also be best for me to live in a home instead of an apartment since I’m a barker. I sometimes have a lot to say! Also, I need room run, so I hope you have a yard! **All animals in our care are spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (age 1 & up), given preventatives, and provided with initial vaccinations AT MINIMUM. Story
ABOUT ME: Hi! My name’s Calvin and I like to think of myself as the life of the party. I was surrendered to COPAW as I was too much for my previous owner to manage (apartment living is not the best environment for an energetic guy like me). I am a happy, social boy once I get to know you and my foster mom says that my tail wags “a million miles a minute.” I love toys, especially bones and anything that I can tear the stuffing out of. I am a little shy at first and will bark at you but once you feed me a few treats, we will be lifelong besties (ask my foster mom!). I love to play with the other dogs in the house. We especially love the game of chase. My mom keeps telling me that with the proper training, I would make a great running companion. My favorite thing though is to curl up with my humans after some fun play time. I AM GREAT WITH: People and other dogs (both big and small). I love my two legged foster brothers. However, due to my energetic nature, I might be too much for really small kids. I know sit and am good at walking on a leash. I am okay with a crate and am used to sleeping in it. I am very proud to tell everyone, I am completely potty trained! Yes, you read that right. Isn't that awesome? I AM STILL WORKING ON: My manners. I like to counter surf which makes everything at eye level fair game. My foster mom is also helping me learn not to jump on everyone when I get super excited and to come when called. I know my name but sometimes practice the art of selective hearing when she is calling me for. I AM NOT GOOD WITH: Cats! My foster family has one and boy does he get on my nerves. I am also a little nervous about being touched around the neck as I was trained using a shock collar. I am getting better with reassurance from the humans. While I am good at walking on a leash, I will need some help at not barking at everyone I see. I REQUIRE: ◦ Fenced-in yard, as I like to run around! ◦ No shared walls, as I like to talk sometimes (apartments, townhomes) ◦ No cats ◦ An active person or family would be wonderful **All animals in our care are spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (age 1 & up), given preventatives, and provided with initial vaccinations AT MINIMUM. Story
ABOUT ME… Hi, I’m DJ! My foster mom describes me as “a scrappy, tiny-yet-fierce Yorkie mix with the heart of a lion and a mane to match.” (I’m blushing…not!) A little over a month ago, I narrowly escaped a bleak fate at an area shelter due to a bite incident, which happened when I felt overwhelmed and scared when a small child invaded my face space with theirs. (I didn’t know what the heck was going on, so I panicked) I’ve since been learning how to trust and feel safe in my foster home, and I know the right, patient family will help me continue to thrive and show off my unique mix of personality, bravery, and smarts. I recently finished up treatment for Lyme disease, conquered kennel cough, and just have one more round of vaccinations to go. My foster mom says I’m a true terrier—independent, curious, and adventurous, always ready to explore the world around me. My thoughtful, inquisitive head tilts will make you laugh, melt, and fall in love—all at the same time. I AM GREAT WITH… I walk beautifully on a leash and absolutely love the outdoors! Digging through grass or snow like a pint-sized excavator is my idea of a good time. You’ll always know when I need a potty break because I’ll whine persistently until you take me out (I will not be ignored). Finally, I’m a pro at stop-drop-and-rolling for belly rubs when the mood strikes—so please respond accordingly! I AM STILL WORKING ON… Car rides make me a little nervous, but I do just fine with some comforting words and reassurance. I’m courageous and determined, so I know I’ll improve with time and practice. I AM NOT GOOD WITH… Kids who don’t understand boundaries… or maybe kids in general. I prefer to avoid them altogether and would thrive in a calm, predictable home where I can feel safe and secure. Cuddling. There, I said it. I love my human, but I’m not one for too much up-close-and-personal time. I’m happy to hop onto the couch or bed for a snack or a quick visit, but when it’s time for serious sleeping, I prefer the cool, comfy floor—it’s just more my style. I REQUIRE… A patient and loving home with people who appreciate my terrier spirit and respect my need for space. Regular outdoor adventures, occasional belly rubs, and a cozy spot to relax will make me one happy pup. Of course, if you don’t mind, I’m just as happy finding my own favorite spot to unwind. FUN FACTS ABOUT ME… My looks? Well, my foster mom says I’m a mix of mini Wookie, a canine Aslan, a dash of Gizmo, and even a Tribble from Star Trek when I’m digging, and you can’t see my head. I don’t know what any of that means, but I hear it’s endearing. Oh, and I’ve earned the title of “furry little snow bandit,” which I wear with pride.

Love isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. And Relay has the heart and soul to go the distance by your side! Relay is a fun and happy go lucky guy who takes life in stride. He just doesn't want to hear any jokes about three-legged relay races - he already knows them all! This fun loving tri-pod loves to play with his dog friends here at the shelter and would likely do well in a home with another dog. Relay has a rough and rowdy play style. Meet and greets are recommended for any potential canine siblings to make sure they and Relay would be a good match. If you are looking for a confident adventure buddy, Relay is your boy! He is always up for a game of fetch or tug or to head out on a walk or hike. Relay is an active dog that would do best in an active home to help keep his mind and body busy. Looking for a brewery or restaurant buddy? Relay has been a favorite to take on doggie day outs from the shelter where he loves to hang out on patios and enjoy some good company! When he’s not working on his fitness, Relay loves to snuggle up with his favorite humans and his “emotional support ball”. He’s sweet and snuggly and his heart is as big as his blocky head! So don’t walk – RUN - to meet this sweet handsome and athletic boy today! He’d love to pass the baton to a family of his own to love! If you’re interested in meeting Relay, race now to his adoption application and fill that out to schedule a meet and greet. Please note that meet and greets are by appointment only. Relay is 3 years old and weighs 61 lbs. All of our animals come fully vetted so he is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines and preventatives.
