Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROUGE is one of the “Fab Four” we saved from being euthanized at the Pound. The only reason that was going to happen to her was because they needed the space to bring in more unwanted or dumped dogs. She’s spayed, microchipped and vaccinated including rabies. She is a beautiful girl but definitely high energy and looking for an experienced Shepherd owner.  ROUGE has both beauty and brains and is a very smart, loving girl who craves attention. Her favourite place to be is right beside you on the couch so she can get snuggles and belly rubs. She does need lots of exercise to help burn off that energy so she’s definitely looking for an active family who can give her the exercise she needs, take her on trail hikes and lots of adventures. She travels well in a vehicle and gets excited when she knows she’s going in it as it usually leads to a nice long walk for her. She loves to play fetch and when you throw the ball for her, she’ll chase after it and retrieve it back to you and drop it out your feet. A fenced-in yard is required for her as she loves to run around in one and chase out the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and well let’s just say any creature that dares to land in her yard. She does need a fenced-in yard as she does love to run around and play outside. She hasn’t met a cat but we’re advising no cats in the home due to her high prey drive. She has a dog savvy 6yr old child in her foster home and they get along great. The little boys favourite thing to do with her is lead her around the house on her leash. She takes it all in her stride and just follows behind him just like his little shadow. She’ll do great with children in her new home as long as they’re calm, loving and considerate to animals. ROUGE is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night. She’ll also go in it during the day and nap while left alone. She’s housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside for a bathroom break. She’s a very social girl and loves to chase and run around with the other female dog in the home so she would do well with a calm fur sibling. Saying that, she would do equally as well as an only dog too. The dog will need to be calm and not get too worked up with an energetic dog like Rouge around. We don’t feel she would be suitable for a home with a cat.  ROUGE recently completed a 3-week board and train programme at Sunnidale Kennels in Angus. She did amazing there and the biggest improvement was her leash walking skills. She’s always been good on her leash mind but would just get worked up when she saw another dog, especially if they had a lot of energy like she does. She’ll now walk calmly by those other dogs and is rewarded with a couple of treats each time for being a good girl. Sunnidale is offering some free sessions with a trainer for Rouge and her new adopter once she’s been adopted. This is so they can fully understand the commands she knows and the best way for them to communicate with her. We have a full assessment report on her behaviour and training at the kennels to share with her adopter as well. ROUGE does have a bite history and it was on 2 occasions with her foster when she first went into her home. Her foster feels they could’ve been totally avoided but none the less they did happen. They were incidences that happened about 4-5 months ago and there’s been no other incidences since that time. This is something that will be discussed in full with her potential adopter during the phone interview stage of the adoption application.  ROUGE is a very special girl who has been in care since she was just a pup of 5 months old. What she endured in those first few months of her life we’ll never know but we do know it wasn’t good. She will need a special adopter who will love her for who she is and will have love, patience and understanding for her while she makes the transition to settle into her new home. That home will be with active people but not too busy of a household. A home where she’s not left alone for long periods of time and one where she’s welcome to lay on the couch beside her new owners and get lots of cuddles and kisses, which she’ll give right back to you too.  If you’re interested in meeting the loveable ROUGE then please put in an application to meet her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 9, 2024, 7:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.TUXEDO hails from Poplar Hill and came down south in search of his forever family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and been deemed healthy by his vet and ready to start his new life. This handsome, gentle boy will be a great addition to just about any family as he has such an easy going nature. He loves to cuddle with you on the couch and he loves being told what a good boy he is. TUXEDO is housetrained and will let you know when he has to have a bathroom break. He’s crate trained and will sleep quietly in it all night. He’s a very social boy and gets on well with other dogs and he’s in a foster home with with another male Husky with no issues between them at all. He’s doing really well with walking on a leash and he’s learning to walk nicely on it but some extra training would definitely benefit him and also help his adopter to bond with him. He’s never met a cat so we don’t recommend a home with one. He does have children in his foster home aged 8 and up and he’s great with them so as long as they’re dog savvy, gentle and respectful to dogs then the’d be a good match for them. TUXEDO is an active boy so his ideal family should be an active one too. They should also enjoy the outdoors, walks and hiking in the woods. He travels well in a vehicle and is always willing to go on an adventure or two. He’s currently living the cottage life with his foster family and he absolutely loves the water and swims around in it for as long as he can. He does require a fenced yard as he loves to run around and play outside. He knows basic commands like “sit” “stay” “down” and “paw” and he’ll sit nicely for treats and take them “gentle.” Where he comes from it’s feast or famine for dogs so he eats very quickly and does tend to be food motivated.  He has been using a slow feeder to help him with that though. He doesn’t show any aggression to the resident dog when he eats near him and there’s never been as issue over food or treats between them. TUXEDO was recently adopted but was returned to the rescue through no fault of his own. There was a female dog who would come to visit the home and she apparently took a dislike to him so after a few days he was returned.  If TUXEDO sounds like the guy for you and your family then please put in an application to meet him.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 9, 2024, 7:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.CLEOPATRA hails from Wapekeka in Northern Ontario and came south to look for a family to call her very own. What we know of her is that she was kept tied up outside of a home and just bred so she’s had a few litters but just how many, we have no idea. We have no knowledge on her parents so her breeds and the potential weight we have her listed as are mere guesses. She is spayed, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped and has tested negative for heart worm and Lyme disease. This lovely, gentle girl is still quite timid but has come a long way since joining her foster family. It takes her a little while to warm up to people but once she does she’ll show them just how affectionate she can be.  CLEOPATRA is crate trained and will sleep quietly in it all through the night and she will also seek it out during the day as she knows it’s her safe place to be. She’s also housetrained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house as she’ll let you know when she needs to go outside for the bathroom. She’s in a foster home with 3 other dogs and they all get along great together. She loves to go on her walks but she is new to a leash so does tend to pull. This lovely girl has had a rough start in life but that’s all behind her now and we’re going to find her the perfect family that has everything she needs and more. She would best suit a quiet but active family who will take her on lots of walks and hikes so she gets the regular exercise she needs to remain a healthy girl. She travels well in a vehicle so will always be up for a drive especially if it leads to an exciting adventure for her. CLEOPATRA loves to be around her humans and will follow them around like a shadow but she doesn’t seek out affection just yet but we know she will eventually. She’ll also lay quietly beside you and is just happy knowing she’s at her humans feet. She’s just starting to play with toys and she loves to chase a ball around outside with the other dogs. She requires a fenced yard so she can play outside and be kept safe. She would like a sibling as she really enjoys romping around with the dogs in her foster home but we’re not saying she can’t be an only child either. She has a cat in her foster home and she’s never chased him but hasn’t interacted with him either so as long as a cat is dog savvy and there’s a slow, supervised introduced then we feel they can get along just fine. We recommend children aged 10 and up as she hasn’t been around any up until this point. She’s good at eating her food and treats around the other dogs and she’s learning her manners and a few commands like sit and stay for her meals.  We do require her adopter to be committed to getting her obedience/leash training in order to adopt her as it will help her be the best girl she can be.  If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle girl then CLEOPATRA is the one for and you meet her by submitting an adoption application for her. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 9, 2024, 7:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.PETAL hails from Dryden and headed south to find herself a family to call her very own. She is spayed, vaccinate including rabies and microchipped. This beautiful girl with one blue eye and one brown is just the gentlest soul who loves to be around her people. She’s also very loving and loves nothing more than to cuddle with you on the couch and being told what a good girl she is.  PETAL is well socialized with other dogs and has got along well with all the ones she’s met. She has 2 dogs in her foster home and they all play very well together. She needs a home with a fenced yard so she can run around and play and be kept safe. She has had no training on how to walk nicely on a leash but she does pretty well on it considering that but would definitely benefit from some formal leash training. She’s crate trained and will sleep quietly in it at night but she’s not so much a fan of it during the daytime. She house trained and will let you know when she wants to go outside for a bathroom break.  PETAL’s been having a cottage life and loves to go swimming and paddle boarding. She’s pretty adventurous and definitely sees lots of them in her future so would love an active family who would include her in them.&#226&#128&#139 She would suit a home with another dog but she would also do well as an only dog provided she had people around her for most of the day. She’s great with children and has a 4yr old in her foster home and they’ve already become fast friends. She hasn’t met a cat so we’re not recommending a home with one in it. This lovely, brave little girl was hit by a vehicle and suffered a broken pelvis and femur. She has had extensive X-rays and it’s been determined that she didn’t need surgery but crate rest to heal the broken bones. She has had around 6 weeks of crate rest and that’s what helped her bones to heal. She has no noticeable limp from her injuries but if she’s had a busy day a slight limp has been noticed cone the evening. It is recommended that she be on a supplement for the rest of her life to keep her bones strong and healthy. PETAL’s looking for a family who’s an active one as the stronger her leg gets the further she can walk so will soon be up to going on the trails hiking and looking for adventures. If you are interested in meeting PETAL then please submit an application. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 9, 2024, 7:06 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MITRE is part of the Tool litter who came south with his 4 litter mates from the Northern Ontario community of Sandy Lake. He’s had 2 sets of puppy vaccines, microchip and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no information on either his mother or father so his breeds and the size he’ll grow to be is just an educated guess. This handsome boy is one of the smallest boy in the litter but has a big personality. The word gentle was invented for this lovely boy as he’s the most gentlest little puppy ever born. He loves his snuggles with his foster mum and will literally put his arms on her shoulders to be cuddled. He also loves to snuggle up in her lap and has been known to sit there and watch the TV.  MITRE is crate trained and sleeps soundly in it all night. He will also go in there of his own accord during the day to take a nap. He loves to go on his walks and gets excited when he knows he’s going on one but like all puppies though, he’ll pull on his leash and run ahead of you. His housetraining is going really well and he’s taken outside first thing in the morning and after his meals and most of the time he’ll do his business then. There’s newspaper on the floor for him to use and he will if he’s not taken outside quick enough. This energetic little guy loves to play and chase his toys around and he really likes to chew on the rubbery toys and Nyla bones. MITRE has several dogs in his foster home and he plays really well with them all. He would suit an home with another dog but he would also do well as an only pet. He did have several kittens in his foster home and he loved chasing them around but he was always very gentle with them. We do feel he’d do well with a dog savvy cat in the home but we do recommend a slow, monitored introduction. We do require children to be age 6 and up plus be gentle and caring towards animals. He does require a fenced yard to keep him safe when he’s outside playing.  MITRE is looking for an energetic family who can give him big walks and long hikes to help him burn off his puppy energy. He travels well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two. He really would suit most types of home but a quieter one would suit him best as he’s just a quiet boy himself. He’s very soft natured and now loves to play with the younger puppies in his foster home. Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for obedience/puppy training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in the adoption fee and must be performed by 9 months of age or before he’s 60lbs (whichever comes first) and we need his adopter to also be in agreement with this as per our Rescue requirement. You can take him to your own vet and we will reimburse what we would’ve paid for the procedure at the SPCA but you are required to still have him neutered in the timeframe we require in order to get the reimbursement.  If MITRE sounds like a guy that will fit into your family then please complete the adoption application to meet him. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 9, 2024, 7:06 pm
