King Shepherd, black tan and fawn coloured. He is a friendly energetic 4year old with lots of personality. He loves long walks and lots of playtime and cuddles. I am no longer able to keep him. He was dropped off by a family member and we were asked to care for him for six months. It has now been a year and the family member is not in a position to take him back. He is in need of a forever home.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.ROUGE is one of the “Fab Four” we saved from being euthanized at the Pound. The only reason that was going to happen to her was because they needed the space to bring in more unwanted or dumped dogs. She’s spayed, microchipped and was just vaccinated including rabies with her annual ones for this year. She is a beautiful girl with lots of energy and she’s looking for an experienced Shepherd owner.  ROUGE has both beauty and brains and is a very smart, loving girl who loves attention. Her favourite place to be is right beside you on the couch so she can get snuggles and belly rubs. She does need lots of exercise to help burn off that young dog energy so she’s definitely looking for an active family who can give her the exercise she desires, take her on trail hikes and lots of adventures. She travels well in a vehicle and gets excited when she knows she’s going in it as it usually leads to a nice long walk in the woods for her. She loves to play fetch and when you throw the ball for her, she’ll chase after it and retrieve it back to you and drop it out your feet. A fenced-in yard is required for her as she loves to run around in one and chase out the birds, squirrels, chipmunks and well, let’s just say any creature that dares to land in her yard. She hasn’t met a cat but we’re advising no cats in the home as she’s never met one and also due to her high prey drive. She has a dog savvy 6yr old child in her foster home and they get along great and the young boy will play fetch with her and walk her around on her leash. She takes it all in her stride and just follows behind him like his little shadow. She’ll do great with children aged 6 plus in her new home as long as they’re calm, loving and considerate to animals. ROUGE is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night. She’ll also go in it during the day and nap while left alone. She’s housetrained and will let you know when she needs to go outside for a bathroom break. She’s a very social girl and loves to chase and run around with the other 2 dogs in her foster home, there’s a female dog around her size and a small male Chihuahua. They’re both calm and that’s the type of dog that would suit her best in her new home. Saying that though she would do equally as well as an only dog too. She’s regularly taken to the off-leash dog park and does extremely well there with all the other dogs. A video has been added to show just how well she does there too. ROUGE recently completed a 3-week board and train programme at Sunnidale Kennels in Angus and she did amazing well there. Her biggest improvement was her leash walking skills. She’s always been good on her leash mind but would just get a bit reactive when she saw another dog, especially if it was an energetic dog like her. She’ll now walk calmly by those other dogs and is rewarded with a couple of treats each time for being a good girl. Sunnidale is offering some free sessions with a trainer for Rouge and her new owner and tbis will help them to bond. This is also so they can fully understand the commands she knows and the best way for them to communicate with her. She was also trained on an e-collar and she responds very well to it and on a low setting. We have a full assessment report on her behaviour and training at the kennel to share with her adoptive family. She had really good manners and waits quietly for her meals and loves it when there’s berries, carrots or other tasty vegetables or fruits topping it.  ROUGE is a very special girl who has been in care since she was just a pup of 5 months old. What she endured in those first few months of her life we’ll never know but we do know it wasn’t good. She has now been with us in foster care for over a year and we’re really not sure why no one has come forward to adopt her. She does need an experienced dog owner and one with Shepherd experience and a good overall knowledge of dogs.  ROUGE sadly does have a couple of nipping incidents that happened at her foster home when she first arrived there but her foster says she completely blames herself for the incidents and feels they could’ve been avoided. Nothing at all has happened since then and she’s now proven herself to be a good girl who loves her humans.  If you’re interested in meeting the lovely ROUGE then please put in an adoption application to do so.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 29, 2024, 12:14 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.EGGNOG hails from the Northern community of Deer Lake and he headed south with his sister, Wassail, to find his forever home. He’s had his first set of puppy vaccines, a microchip, dewormer and been deemed a healthy boy by his vet. We have no knowledge of his parents so the breeds we have him listed as are just a guess based on what he looks like as is the size he’ll grow to be. He’s an energetic, outgoing little guy who loves to run around and play with his many dog toys and also chase his sister. He’s very affectionate and loves to give kisses and receive belly rubs.  EGGNOG is crate trained and will sleep soundly in it at night and also take naps in it during the day. He’s working on his housetraining and most times he’s taken outside, he’ll do his business then. It is still a work in progress though and frequent trips outside are required for him still. He’s only just started to be walked on a leash and like all puppies will race ahead of you but with the harness that he wears, there is a bit more control with him. EGGNOG’s socialized with other dogs as he has one in his foster home and they get along very well together so he would suit being in a home with another dog as long as a slow, monitored introduction is done. He would do equally as well as an only child too as long as he’s not left alone for long periods of time. He has 2 cats in his foster home so he would suit being with a cat and it would help with introductions if the cat is dog savvy but if not then a slow, monitored introduction should be done while he’s kept leashed. EGGNOG’s ideal family is an active one who loves the outdoors and will take him on long walks and hikes. He travels well in a vehicle so will always be up for an adventure or two as well. He does require a fenced yard to keep him safe while he has a run around and play. Children should be aged 6 plus and be loving, gentle and kind to animals. Puppies are fun and cute but also require a lot of work, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to be in agreement to sign him up for puppy/obedience training in order to adopt him. His neuter is included in the adoption fee and will be performed no later than 9 months of age or by the time he weighs 60lbs (whichever comes first.) We also need his adopter to be in agreement with this policy in order to adopt him. There is the option to get the neuter done at the adopters own vet clinic and the rescue will reimburse the fee that we would’ve paid at the SPCA but the timeframe rules must be adhered to in order for the rescue to do so. The rescue also requires a copy of the surgery invoice and a photo of the puppy (preferably in a cone or onsie) to receive the reimbursement. If EGGNOG sounds like the puppy to join you and your family then please submit an adoption application to meet him.                  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 31, 2024, 8:39 pm
