Story
Introducing Siris! Siris’s name inspiration (pronounced: sigh-ris) -the Egyptian god of the underworld Quite fitting for his "rebirth" into rescue for a second chance! Sirus is a super sweet male that is very much a lean, smaller than his photos look at only 26kg, brindle Boxer body style with possibly American Bulldog sprinkled in, who came to us from an overcrowded shelter. PLEASE READ HIS FULL PROFILE before inquiring to ensure he is the right fit for your family and that you're his pawfect match. Siris is the goodest good boy! We all adore him so much. Goofy and snuggly and so eager to learn and please. Siris loves to work with his foster family and has learned so very quickly, he will thrive in an active family with ongoing training, loves hiking and is a young active boy who also loves to snuggle with his people. Notes from his foster family Your foster dog's energy level: Medium to High Siris needs a few good walk/hikes/sniffing adventures a day He does have a good amount of energy where we've found playing with him in the backyard is really helpful. He loves to run and play tug and it really helps with his energy levels. Multiple walks a day could also help with this. We train Siris each night with various commands as well as throughout the day we work on his recall. While on walks we also spend some time teaching heel, leave it and leash training. Is your foster dog food motivated? Siris is extremely food motivated. If you have treats, he'll do anything you want so we always bring treats on walks. Siris is great meeting new dogs, he's very friendly and listens to other dogs social cues well. Siris came to us very emaciated and as a result, does resource guard food and toys (with other animals only! He has no guarding issues with humans) so he will require a home without other pets living with him to set him up for success. He'd love social backyard visits with friend or family dogs since he does well away from any resources he feels he needs to guard. Siris is wonderful with people, he loves everyone and loves getting attention from humans. He is such a sweet and loving dog. Good with cats? Siris would do best in a home without cats. He's not aggressive towards our cats, he's just overly excited to meet them and doesn't know how to control his excitement around them and of course cats don't understand resource guarding respect around food etc. We are seeing improvement with time, training and routine feedings. We are managing it currently by keeping Siris separated from our pets when any food is being prepared, during feedings and when giving treats. When Siris is spending time with our other dogs, we don't allow any toys in the area although with concentrated training and careful supervision this is also improving as you'll notice in photos in his profile. Housetrained? Yes Crate trained? Yes He loves his crate and it's his safe space, he will often nap there during the day and is happy to sleep there overnight. He also knows the command "crate" well. Does your foster dog show signs of separation anxiety? No Please elaborate on your foster dog's leash skills. Siris does an excellent heel when asked and when treats are available. He responds well to being called back to you. Although he needs more training with pulling, as he does like to pull sometimes when not in a heel position. How does your foster dog react when you touch the ears, tail, paws etc. Please elaborate. He has no problem with being touched or examined anywhere. He doesn't mind his paws touched at all. How would you describe the dog's personality/temperament He is the biggest sweetheart you'll ever meet. He is so sweet and loving and just wants to please, cuddle and spend time with you. He loves to play and can be a goofy boy. Things needing improvement specifics please He needs improvement learning to not pull on walks, managing his excitement as he sometimes mouths (we are working on redirecting him to toys) as well as jumping, and his resource guarding needs work. No medical concerns,he is an extremely healthy dog now that he is being fed high quality food and supplements. Food amount/type: He's eating Bold By Nature raw and eating 6 patties per day. Raw is not mandatory for his adoptive family but we will require his adoptive family to feed a high quality, meat based grain free diet to maintain optimal health for Siris if they choose not to feed raw. Skills/Commands Sit? Yes Stay? Yes Wait? Yes Lay Down? Yes Leave It? Working on it Off? Working on it Down? Yes Come? Yes Any other skills/commands? He also knows "crate" and "paw" and we use "break" as his release word. We are in the middle of teaching "leave it" but he needs work on this. Please describe current routines and preferences that will help the dog settle into their new home: He would likely adjust quickly to any home. What would really help is making sure he gets a good amount of exercise and has plenty of toys and chews such as bully sticks, tendons, knuckle bones etc and appropriate toys as he really likes to chew. As well as he really enjoys spending quality time with his humans. Strengths/areas they have improved on: He's really improved on managing his excitement quite a bit. He is VERY easy to train and has improved on learning "leave it". He has also improved a lot on being able to disconnect from the cats. He's also improved on listening to other dogs cues. He has also improved on his resource guarding. Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles? None. Please describe the perfect adoptive home for your foster dog based on what you have experienced. The perfect adoptive home would be a single pet household with humans that can provide lots of quality time and exercise with this sweet boy and understand the importance of continued training and socialization to reinforce positive behaviours. The perfect home would also really enjoy cuddling with Siris, he's a big cuddler. Anything to add? Siris is truly a golden goose egg of a dog. Any home who takes him in would be adopting a smart, loving, goofy, and snuggly lifelong companion. He's the biggest sweetheart and really deserves a loving home as he has so much love to give. Important Notes: Siris requires a pet free home Siris is a bouncy young goofy boy who is not a suitable fit for younger children or older seniors. Story
Zori as we affectionately call her is a precious, shy Yorkie female who was surrendered to our rescue by a commercial breeder when they retired her from their breeding program Current weight 3.8kg /8lbs, Zori is a wee girl who is still learning that humans can be kind and safe and provide TLC and patience, after her previous life was certainly not kind to her. Zori is still cautiously exploring her world and slowing blossoming to learn to trust people and be more brave in new environments. MANDATORY for her new forever home *Fully fenced yard/full supervision in person during outside time. Zori is too timid to walk on leash yet and needs to build her confidence before she is ready for leashed walks in her neighbourhood. She cannot be put out on a tie out nor live in a home with a dog door or unfenced pool. * Another suitable dog companion. Zori does best with another canine companion in her home to help with her confidence. She loves to snuggle with the other small dogs in her foster home. She has been around playful dogs and her zoomies and happy dances are starting to come out in her foster home, but she would not appreciate a dog who is in her face or pawing at her etc. * Zori requires a home without children due to her timid nature Zori has now been spayed, microchipped, had her bloodwork done, negative for heartworm and all tick diseases, and up to date on her vaccinations. Flea/tick prevention and fecal tested negative for parasites Zori is scheduled for her dental cleaning and removal of any decayed teeth on Dec 3rd and will then be ready to join her forever family after then. About Zori (from foster family) Good with dogs both in their home environment as well as meeting new dogs? We have 3 other small dogs of varying ages and a cat and she is very good with all of them. Her previous foster had larger dogs and she was also fine with them. She has no behavioural concerns at all with other dogs. How does your foster dog respond to meeting new people in their home environment and outside of the home? Zori is very timid but curious. She is interested in giving new people a sniff but needs some time to work up the courage. Good with cats? We have a cat and she shows no interest in him at all. Zori has no resource guarding tendencies whatsoever. Housetrained? No Crate trained? No Being in a crate was very stressful for Zori- she is not destructive so we leave her out with the other dogs when we need to leave them alone. Many dogs from previous breeding environments were kept in horrible tiny filthy cages so forcing crating is not something we do if they are safe to be left loose and enjoy their beds or couches Does your foster dog show signs of separation anxiety? No-fine to be left alone 3-4 hrs Please elaborate on your foster dog's leash skills. None as of yet, Zori is still slowly acclimating to her new life- we have not taken her on any walks yet until we build up her confidence How does your foster dog react when you touch the ears, tail, paws etc. Please elaborate. Zori is hesitant to be pet or handled but she does give little kisses to your hands when offered. She will not bite when being handled but does pull away out of fear. Zori is a very sweet and timid girl but every day she grows more and more comfortable. It is incredibly rewarding to see her come out of her shell. She loves meal time and will do happy little tippy taps as you bring her her bowl. She also gets zoomies in the evening and loves to play fetch with a sock. Things needing improvement specifics please We are still working on potty training- Zori does not let us know when she needs to go so we need to take her out at regular intervals to make sure she does her business outside. Zori needs to work on being handled- she prefers not to be picked up (but ironically wants to be on the couch with you- so she will run to her bed to let you pick her up from there) Zori has just mastered doing three stairs from the house to outside yard but overall is not confident on stairs which is fine since her tiny legs are very fragile as a Yorkie. Food amount/type: Zori eats 3 times a day, 2.5 oz of Bold by Nature balanced raw food (beef, pork, chicken, turkey-- she loves them all!) . Her tiny tummy does better with three smaller meals vs two larger. She is happy to do a little dance as you prepare her food and runs over to her spot to gobble it up! Potty habits: We take Zori out as soon as she finishes her breakfast and dinner, as soon as she wakes up in the morning and then every 3-4-ish hours throughout the day. She will not let you know when she needs to go-- if she gets up from a nap and starts to wander -- its time! Please describe current routines and preferences that will help the dog settle into their new home: Zori's safe spot is her bed. She loves to spend the day there while we work and sleeps all night in it, though recently she has discovered that snuggling in bed with her foster Dad and a foster dog is very nice! It will be important for her new family to understand that they have to take things at Zori's pace, and provide a positive environment for her to grow her confidence. Strengths/areas they have improved on: Zori is slowly coming out of her shell- she gains more confidence every day. Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles? None, travels well in her crate. Please describe the perfect adoptive home for your foster dog based on what you have experienced. Zori's ideal adoptive home will be quiet and calm. She needs someone who understands that she will need time to adjust and patience when it comes to training. She needs someone who is willing to go at her pace and give her the encouragement she needs to grow her confidence. Zori is 6yrs young and with a life expectancy of up to 16 yrs, she is not a suitable fit for older seniors/geriatric homes. Notes: * Mandatory registration with an approved trainer is a requirement for adoptive families. *Must be located within Ontario Canada *Inground/ground level Pools and deeper ponds must be separately fenced from yard Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario. Story
7 yrs young spayed Maltese female who joined our rescue Sept 28 as a retired breeding dog from a commercial breeding operation This darling girl has now completed all of her vetting including vaccinations, microchip, bloodwork, spay and full dental extractions due to badly decayed teeth. She is blossoming in her foster home and ready to find her forever family. PLEASE READ HER ADOPTION PROFILE BEFORE APPLYING to be sure that your family is the right match for Chicadee's needs in her ideal forever home. Chicadee's wish list includes Another suitable canine companion in her new home A home without a lot of stairs or family member committed to carrying her up/down when needed and continuing to work on her training/comfort level NOTES from Chicadee's foster family Energy level: Moderate - Chicadee is quiet most of the day, but loves to play with us, her toys and our dogs. Chicadee loves her walks and enjoys frequent shorter walks as well as snuffling in the fenced yard with her foster present and other dogs with her Training happens throughout the day as opportunities arise. She is highly motivated by food so treats are an effective training tool and teaching her new behaviours is a joy. Chicadee is food motivated - she eats her food eagerly and loves treats, which as mentioned above, really assist with training. Good with dogs both in their home environment as well as meeting new dogs? She is extremely good with her foster sisters and loves to cuddle with them, play with them and follow them around. She has been good with other dogs that have come into our home, both adult and puppy. When encountering dogs outside the home, Chicadee is curious but cautious. She will allow them to approach but she is timid. As long as they approach with respect she is fine. How does your foster dog respond to meeting new people - Chicadee is initially cautious when other people come into our home, and will maintain a distance until she is comfortable with them. Once she is comfortable, she will interact with them. Outside the home, she is more cautious and will not approach someone new. She does not retreat -if they approach softly and respectfully, she will interact with them, sniff their feet or hands, etc. Good with cats? Yes, brief time with a cat with no concerns, not fostered with cats Any guarding behaviours -None, she is very good about sharing. Chicadee shares toys, dog beds and family members with our own dogs and we have had no concerns in this area. She is very eager when treats are being given, but shows no aggression whatsoever. Housetrained? Yes Crate trained? Yes Chicadee is generally very quiet in her crate. She snuggles into the blankets and sleeps, and she is very excited when we come home. She often will go into the crate for a nap on her own during the day. I leave my foster dog alone for ___h per day. 2 Does your foster dog show signs of separation anxiety? No When we first got Chicadee, she would freeze when we tried to walk her. Now she is very comfortable on a leash and loves to go for walks. She will just stand for a few seconds initially but then is eager to go. When walking solo, Chicadee tends to walk slowly, stopping to sniff, to look at things or to listen to new sounds as she is very curious about the world around her. So she tends to be a very casual walker when going solo. This is not the case when walking with one of her foster sisters, as she is keen to walk with them and scampers along at their speed. Handling?-Chicadee is very receptive to being touched - ears, tail, paws, etc. She loves being petted or scratched and has not shown any negative reaction to being touched. Very compliant at vet appointments. Chicadee is a very funny little soul who loves to play, either alone with her toys or with her foster sisters. She loves her people and will happily follow us around and watch what we are doing. She is a happy creature who loves a good cuddle. Chicadee enjoys being held or sitting beside us or on our laps. When she is playing, her behaviour can be quite entertaining. Sweet, little Chicadee is a work in progress. She has yet to develop the confidence to tackle the stairs (both ascending and descending.) While she will go in and out of our patio door, she will not go through our front door, perhaps because it is solid (not glass) and maybe because there is also a screen door. We have to carry her out the front, but it's not much of a chore as she is so small. Chicadee has come an extremely long way in a short period of time, and will benefit from consistent reinforcement by her new family of the skills listed below. Due to having had her teeth removed, Chicadee requires soft food and treats. We also have learned that she does not react well to beef. Beyond that, we have no concerns about her health. Please describe current routines and preferences that will help the dog settle into their new home: Chicadee has a very simple schedule. She wakes about 7 in the morning, checks out the backyard, has breakfast and a walk . Once she is home, she has a well deserved nap. Napping, learning new skills and playing are the activities for the day. In the evening she is happy to cuddle up on the couch for some tv watching. About nine she is ready for her last walk of the day and then off to bed in her crate. Chicadee will need some time to settle into a new home. Attention will need to be paid to her signals - when she needs to go potty, she does a funny little spinning dance to let you know. We have bells at the door but so far she is still signalling with the spin dance. Having small stuffed toys available and a nice soft bed she can curl up in will help as well. We have her crate available as well and she likes to go in it on her own when she needs some quiet time. She may initially need some alone time to get used to her new family and her new home. Once she is comfortable, lots of attention and respectful cuddling will really help her get settled as she is very affectionate and loves to be held. Strengths/areas they have improved on: Chicadee came with very few skills and no understanding of what it means to live in a household with humans and other dogs. She didn't play, had no idea what toys are, was uncomfortable in a harness or on a leash - she would freeze as soon as we tried to walk. Now she does all these things and is quite compliant when it comes to the harness, leash, coat, etc. because she enjoys walks so much. Initially she was reluctant to interact with us or with her foster sisters but now she craves attention. It has been a joy to watch her go from being just a dog to becoming a member of a family. Transportation-Chicadee is getting used to travelling in a vehicle. She may shake a little at first but then she is fine on short trips: occasionally she has a little motion sickness on longer trips (ie. more than an hour.) CBD oil or homeopet Travel Anxiety, or Cerennia will assist with this as needed We think the perfect adoptive home for Chicadee would be one where she receives lots of companionship from humans or other dogs. She loves to cuddle with her furry foster siblings, with us and with our daughter and granddaughters. She seeks attention and loves to follow us around. Chicadee also enjoys cuddling on the couch. We think she would do well with a family or with a single person or couple, as long as they have time to spend with her. She would not do well being left alone for long periods of time. We think a home with a fenced yard would be ideal, as Chicadee enjoys being outside and loves to explore her surroundings. As mentioned previously, Chicadee does not do stairs (she will do a couple of steps into the house) and we have not let her jump onto or off of the couch or chair due to her small size/risk of injuries We believe that Chicadee would be a wonderful addition to almost any family. She is not suitable for young children or busy noisy environments that would startle her, but she loves our granddaughters who are all over the age of ten and extremely dog savvy and respectful. Chicadee Notes: * Mandatory registration with an approved trainer is a requirement for adoptive families. *Must be located within Ontario Canada *Inground/ground level Pools and deeper ponds must be separately fenced from yard Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario. Meet Maria, a spirited and loving large mix breed dog with a zest for life! Maria is full of energy and adores long walks, cuddling up, or playing at the park. ~ She's a strong puller on the leash and can be quite vocal, so she'll need an adopter who can keep up with her and work on her manners.~ Though Maria lacks basic obedience skills, she's eager to learn and would thrive with someone committed to helping her become the best girl she can be. To set her up for success, Maria will need to be enrolled in one in-person positive reinforcement training class or receive a Goodpup scholarship.~ Maria came to us as a stray with a severe ear infection that caused her ears to drop. While the infection has been treated, she remains a bit touch-sensitive, so a gentle approach is key. Due to her vocal nature, Maria wouldn't be the best fit for an apartment or shared-wall dwelling.~ She would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to respect her space. If you're looking for a loyal and lively companion who's ready to take on the world with you, Maria is your girl!Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed:- High Energy- Nervous/Shy- Touch Sensitivity- Barrier Reactivity - Vocal- Separation anxietyExplanation of Behaviours:- Maria is an active and high energy dog, her new family will need to provide her plenty of daily exercise, enrichment and training.- Maria can be touch sensitive specifically with new people or when she is anxious/stressed. Meet Minnie, a sweet senior which is part of our duo looking for their forever home together! Minnie, a medium-sized mix, has had a rough start in life, bouncing between homes for years, but now she's ready for stability and love. She's bonded with her mom, Freckle, and they are inseparable. These two must be adopted together!~ Minnie can be nervous around new people and may bark out of fear, but once you offer her a treat, she melts into a happy, loving dog. ~ Minnie and Freckle would do best in a home as the only dogs but could potentially live with another senior dog after a slow, careful introduction. They can be reactive towards new dogs at first, so they would thrive in a house, making them a poor fit for an apartment.~ These lovely seniors would prefer a calm environment with older, dog-savvy children, ideally teenagers. ~ While Minnie can be a strong puller on walks, she loves nothing more than soaking up the sun and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. If you're looking for a devoted pair to bring joy to your home, Minnie and Freckle are waiting for you!Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed:Under-SocializedJumpy / MouthyFearful / NervousExplanation of Behaviours:~ Minnie is an active dog with moderate energy who requires daily attention, training, exercise, and enrichment.~ She will need consistent work and training to address challenging behaviours such as mouthing and jumping.~ Minnie can be shy and nervous at first, requiring her new family to introduce her slowly to new people, situations, and environments.~ She has shown reactivity to new dog & new people due to fear or discomfort, particularly when in her kennel, on leash or behind barriers.~ Minnie has some sound sensitivity and can be touch sensitive, especially with unfamiliar individuals.
