Story
Animal Profile: Watermelon is an estimated 1-year-old 70 lb neutered male German Shepherd who was taken into the high-kill Downey Animal Shelter in Los Angeles as a stray, and never claimed. The shelter assessed him to be friendly with people and other dogs, and comfortable with handling with no medical or behavior flags, however he was euth listed for space after a long stay over one month in the shelter. This resilient boy got a one-way ticket to Seattle with a foster offer and will be joining Dog Gone Seattle on July 28. We will share more about him as we get to know him in foster care.  Foster Update: 'Mel' needs a dog savvy/experienced adopter that has a genuine interest in getting to know him and his quirks.  Mel would do best with someone that is ready to put some work into him.  Mel has developed some behaviors through all the processing of different humans and handlers that occurs during shelter and rescue life.  As a result, he has become a bit reactive towards newcomers. Once bonded to you, he is very loyal and trainable but will not be an easy first dog owner dog.  He would do best with a single person until the person has learned to manage him, otherwise, in his intense bond he tends to get defensive over his space when he is leashed.   Mel has several dog play friends here and does well de escalating other dogs.  What he lacks in confidence with some people he makes up for when dealing with dogs.   As his foster and trainer, I am eager to find someone help him see the benefit in connection as well as the more casual greetings through ritualistic protocols that he can rely on.  He needs a human to show him that connectivity and reliability is possible because at this point he has come to the conclusion that humans are not trustworthy nor reliable and has put him on the defense, like many of the shelter dogs I see.  Mel is a young, super fun and brilliant dog.  He is affectionate towards his person and has a great off switch in the house. For a husky type dog he really enjoys being home and is relatively easy to fulfill.  Mel comes with free training support for life and is currently fostered by Double Down Dog Training.  Mel's trainer has assessed that the benefits of being Mel's person far outweigh any risks and with time and patience he will make THE BEST ride or die companion IF you have a little grit and an a genuine interest in helping a shelter 'underdog' get ahead.  I look forward to teaching you everything I know about Mel and seeing him in a home of his  own someday.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations Rabies and DPPV, heartworm test if 6 months or older, microchip with lifetime registration, and health certificate. Adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 organization. Apply Online: www.doggoneseattle.org/adoption-application< Animal History: Watermelon was picked up as a stray in southern California and taken to the high-kill Downey animal shelter where he was placed on the euthanasia list for space. With foster commitment he was tagged and will be transported to Seattle arriving 7/28/24. He will be available for adoption to the greater Seattle area after evaluated in foster care.January 10, 2025, 10:42 pm

My name is Sakari and I'm a happy bouncy gal that is wanting a home, a family...one to call my very own. Did you know that Sakari is a Native American name meaning 'sweet'. And did you also know that there is a Native American legend that if you have 2 different colored eyes you can see both heaven and earth at the same time? Pretty cool, huh?!!! I'm around 2 years and 54lbs. I am that pawsome medium size for anything you've got up your sleeve (and you can always count on me to be game to give it a try). I love long walks, hiking nature trails, being your co-pilot on errand runs or just chillin on the couch. I'm a well balanced social gal that does well with people, both tall and small and the other foster pups too although I haven't had the pleasure of meeting any of those creatures y'all call a cat! I'm active, playful and love to explore...everywhere! I have tons of love ready to be unleashed on my family and I'm big on personality, smart and inquisitive, affectionate and sweet. My oh my I have a boatload of great traits going on, oh and don't forget my stunningly gorgeous good looks, to make me a great family addition, I just need the family...could it be YOUR family? If we could be that perfect fit please fill out my adoption application found at haydudeequine.org

Story
Hi, I am LaBelle I am a 3 year-old Husky who was rescued from a high kill facility right after I gave birth to my babies. A sweet lady saw me and knew I needed help, so she offered to foster me and my babies until we could find our forever homes. I am so thankful for her and the rescue who saved us. I absolutely love spending time with people and other dogs. I would love a big yard to play in and if there were kids for me to play with, that would even be better. I love children. I love to be outside and enjoying nice cool weather. I do very well inside and use my manners. Unless I really want your attention, then I like to talk to you..... I am a true husky. We are chatty! I would do best with an active family. Please consider giving me a chance to show you how much I can love you. I am a really good girl with a lot of personality. I am fully vetted and ready for adoption. I can be transferred to you via ground transportation as well. Located in Texas
