Story

Cubby is a beautiful 1 year old, intact male German Shepherd Dog. He is black and tan in color. He has a great personality! He loves and is devoted to his family. He loves children, he is frequently in the company of our 7 grandchildren. The children range in age from the youngest 18 months to the oldest 15 years old. He does not like cats. We have barn cats and he chases them every chance he gets. He has a strong prey drive. We have 3 small dogs. A Yorkie and two poodle mixes. Two are females and one is a neutered male. He gets along fine with all three of the small dogs. He does not like other un-neutered males. Cubby will challenge them and try to dominate them. Cubby needs a person with Shepherd experience. He is a typical GSD. Very active, extremely intelligent, loyal, loving with his family. Aloof and warey of strangers. He is a great guardian. He knows his job is to protect his territory and family. If he is adopted and it doesn't work out, he can immediately return to us.

Meet McFly(Mc for short!)!! This cute red tri is a 3 year old neutered male(with a tail), up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, and weighing in at about 44 pounds. He's been very well-loved, but the addition of a grandchild and the loss of one of the dogs in the home have changed things. From his owner: "McFly knows multiple commands such as kennel, down, off, 4 on the floor, sit, five, and lie down. He is also agility and obedience trained (but too many distractions with other dogs to grasp the concepts). Mc is an absolute loving, goofing energetic boy that loves ALL ADULTS. He is referred to at the office as the "Walmart Greeter". He absolutely gives his heart and soul to pleasing, playing and grabbing all the attention he can around any adult. He has the best Aussie smile I've ever seen. He loves his toys, balls, tug, Frisbee, fetch, and running around... loves being around his adult people... does have a nice off switch in a quiet environment. He gets overly excited when company comes but settles quickly after he has finished his meet, greet and has gotten all the attention he can. Mc is very toy and food motivated. He rides well in the car, crated for safety. " He would do best in an adult only home with no other pets, a home that would be willing to give him the proper exercise and stimulation he needs. Adopters within a 200 mile radius will be considered. He is located in Tonawanda, NY. I got bruno when he was one he is now 3.December 5th he will be 4.I wish for bruno to have a loving home. Bruno has bad trust issues and has previously bitten someone.Bruno loves to go for walks.He loves a good snuggle.He is very protective.He is good with children. He is not good aggressive.He does best with another dog because he does have a bit of separation anxiety.He is a great dog once he feels comfortable and safe with you. From my knowledge of his last home he was abused.I work multiple jobs and don’t give him the time he deserves.Give this beautiful boy the home he deserves.

Spike is an adult male Chow/Husky Mix. Spike is a young and frisky character. He would do well with some structure and basic obedience. Spike will be neutered prior to adoption. This Path to Home group starts 11/14/24 for 8 weeks. Volunteers For Animals and Orleans Correctional Facility have developed a Dog Training & Fostering Program within the prison that will provide socialization and basic obedience training for the dogs before being adopted. Volunteers For Animals will be pulling dogs from high kill shelters and locally who may be in need of behavioral support to become more adoptable. The dogs will then be transported to Orleans Correctional Facility where they will live with selected inmates who will care for them 24 hours per day for approximately 8 weeks. Each dog will have a crate, bedding, leash, collar, training treats, and food provided by Volunteers For Animals. A certified dog trainer will provide weekly training classes for the dogs and the inmates. The inmates will then work daily to reinforce the formal training with the dogs. Adoption Procedures The adoption process includes an application that is completed by the potential owner. If there are multiple applications on the same animal, the animal will go to the best home for that particular animal - not necessarily the first application. Fees for the Path Home animals are $200 per animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. All of the dogs are current on vaccines, heart worm tested and spayed/neutered. If you would like to be considered for any of the Path to Home dogs, please email us. Please do not call the Shelter regarding Path Home animals - they do not have any information. Email us at info@vol4animals.org regarding this program. Here is the adoption process: To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays. All cats must leave in a carrier. Bubbles is a beautiful spayed female Boxer Mix She just graduated for our Path To Home Program with involves obedience training for 8 weeks. Bubbles is housebroken, crate trained and good with other dogs. She LOVES to play ball and would probably do it all day if she could. Bubbles is a very affectionate dog with a sweet personality. Brian is a 2-1/2 year old male Beagle. Brian is good with children, cats and other dogs. He will be neutered prior to adoption. He is currently in a foster home. Volunteers For Animals periodically pulls dogs from other shelters to free up space; this helps avoid euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. We are able to do this through the generosity of many people such as the originating shelter staff, transporters, foster volunteers and others who help with pulling fees, vet bills and finding good homes once they are here.
