🐾 Meet Shirru! 🐾Age: 1 year oldBreed: Shepherd / Pit Mix Arrival Date: October 22nd 2023Hello there! My name is Shirru, and I'm eagerly wagging my tail in hopes of finding my new home. As a one-year-old Shepherd Pit Mix, I bring a unique blend of loyalty, intelligence, and affection to the table.Although I've spent some time here at the shelter, I've used every moment to learn and grow. Now, I'm ready to embark on a new adventure with a loving family who can provide me with the security and guidance I crave. Here's a little bit about me:🐾 Personality: I'm a friendly and energetic companion who loves to play and explore. Whether it's a game of fetch in the backyard or a leisurely stroll in the park, I'm always up for an adventure. I thrive on human interaction and am eager to shower my future family with love and affection.🐾 Training: During my time at the shelter, I've worked hard to polish my manners and learn basic commands. With consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, I'm confident that I'll continue to blossom into a well-behaved and obedient companion. I respond well to leadership and am eager to please my new family.🐾 Needs: As a Shepherd Pit Mix, I require an owner who can provide me with the structure and leadership I need to thrive. A secure and loving environment where I can feel safe and supported is essential for my happiness and well-being. Story
MEET ALONZO! ALONZO is an Australian Shepherd/Retriever mix He is about 2-3 yrs. old and came into the Carson shelter in CA as stray weighing barely 43 lbs. When admitted to the vet clinic in LA he was immediately diagnosed with canine pneumonia, dehydration, and severe weight loss; overall ALONZO spent 6 weeks in the contracting vet clinic until he had fully recovered. He now weighs a healthy 52lbs. ALONZO is a pure gentle soul, inexperienced about most things and will be thriving to learn more with you. He is exuberant in his energy at times and is not often able to direct that energy into the right direction (e.g. can be easily distracted). Getting him into a calm state of mind is key makes him focus on his action and behavior, We would not recommend Alonzo to a household with children as ADR.org does not want to put him up for failure. We do not know how he is with cats or children under teenager age. From assessment and observation though ADR.org would think that a calm home, with people willing to take it slow but firm with him, and work with him on his energy and ability to follow commands. ALONZO's ability to grow is immense and you teaching him to focus would bring out the best in him. While he is fully crate trained, it should not be a place where he spends most of his time. Instead ADR.org would like to see him with a person who dedicates) quality time. and bring him out of his shell. ADR.org assumes that he was adopted as a puppy from a shelter during Covid but was left to grow up alone, without any continued interaction, stimulation, and enrichment, nor directions and simple training to sharpen his ability to focus. All dogs adopted through ADR.org are altered (neutered or spayed), microchipped, fully vaccinated (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Leptospirosis, Bordetella. Furthermore, you will have their shelter record as well as all vet records and results from where the animal was in the care of the vet clinic (Inc. Full bloodwork report). If you are interested in hearing more about ALONZO, contact the founder of ADR.org and email ADR@animaldefenserescue.org. Send us some photos of your home and backyard (if fully fenced) and tell us a bit about yourself. ADR.org will then schedule a call with you and send you our application via email. Our application process is straightforward, and you would need to be willing to visit him on Orcas Island. ADR.org will assist with all logistical coordination. ALONZO and ADR.org look forward to hearing from you!

Story
MEET JULIAN - a 4-5yr. old Pure Breed petite Chowchow. Julian was rescued from high kill shelter in Apple Valley past year and is looking for a committed forever home. He is living with the founder of ADR.org on Orcas Island [OI], WA. JULIAN is under 5 years old, weighs about 43lbs., shows a “typical chow personality: he wants HIS Human with a calm but strong pack leader mentality. JULIAN can be feisty and playful at times- so we would not recommend a home with children under 12years – All dogs adopted through ADR.org are altered, microchipped, fully vaccinated (Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, Leptospirosis, Bordetella. From observation and assessment, ADR.org would recommend a structured, and calm home with not too many people coming and going as he does not like hectic. He is often nervous about new situations, and people he never met. But he does warm up quickly. A home where people cherish him, love the breed, and give him enough 1:1 at home. A solid fenced backyard would be a nice PLUS as he loves to run and “patrol” . He has one acre here. JULIAN also likes things structured, likes his routine. His compatibility with cats is guarded and would need an experienced owner around in that case. ADR.org has cat evaluated him and the founder would be happy to share that video with you. He would love a girlfriend, but would accept with a non-boisterous, too energetic male dog- HE Says>>. If you are interested in hearing more about JULIAN, contact me, the founder of ADR.org by emailing me to ADR@animaldefenserescue.org so that I can send you the proper ADR.org application. Tell me something about you and why you think you want to give JULIAN a home that I so wish for him. There are more videos that can be shared with you as well. Please share a bit about yourself in email, add some photos of your home and the outside of your home (fenced yard etc.?) Once I have your application back, we will have a phone call then to discuss it more and I get to know you better. WOOFLY, JULIAN and ADR.org

Story
Please meet ARCHIE! who could resist this face? While ADR.org usually rescues from high Kill Shelters in CA, this fellow caught ADR.org's eye and heart. ARCHIE came to ADR.org through a cooperation with the Humane Society in Bend, OR. ARCHIE’s prior owner was admitted to the hospital sometime in December and unfortunately died in hospital care. First the neighbors were feeding ARCHIE while he was mostly outside alone- missing his owner. As this was not a sustainable situation and ARCHIE was not doing well, the decision was to bring him to the local shelter- as there was no further plan. ARCHIE is an 8 yr. old Pure-Bred cream-colored Chow, brings about 60lbs to the scale. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations. ARCHIE needs to have easy access to a well-secured garden/yard. He knows the purpose of a DOGGY DOOR. He had bloodwork and urinalysis done while with ADER.org which came back with no vet concerns. He is alert with other dogs, not reactive but selective. ADR.org thinks that having him as only dog might be the easiest on ARCHIE. We do not know how he is with cats. ARCHIE was shaved down at the shelter as he was so matted, and his fluffy fur has been growing back wonderfully. ARCHIE is a stoic fellow that LOVES to walk and get his sniffs outside in the forest, and he takes his time. He rarely barks but can get very alert when he thinks that there is “danger.” Having a caring and dedicated home for the rest of his life, a comfortable dog bed and continued good nutrition would make this fellow happy. He is crate trained and rests and waits there patiently. He lives for his walks and food (best time ever for him - he told me). ARCHIE is a delightful corky fellow and ADR.org is looking for a home that pampers him, has calm energy, and tends to his needs. If you would like to hear and see more of him (photos/videos), please contact the founder by sending an email to: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org and tell us a bit about yourself and why you would love to meet/adopt ARCHIE. Please add some photos of your home, and yard or anything else you would love to share. ADR.org will send you an application once you have reached out. ADR.org cannot wait to see him in a good and fitting home. NOTE: ADR.org will not ask for an adoption fee. Instead, the founder is welcoming a donation amount of your choice to be able to continue with saving ONE dog at A time. WOOFLY, ARCHIE

Story
Meet FLUFFY- a young (2-3yrs) old female Chow/German Shepherd/Akita (DNS test results) mix- that is petite and brings around 45lbs to the scale. Life had not been good for FLUFFY, and she could have died on the side of a road in Victorville, CA in January. Would it not have been for a good Samaritan who noticed two dogs lying on the side of a highway, she would have died there as she could not get up: her hip was displaced as she and the other dog had been hit by a car. This individual rushed her to a vet clinic nearby that was open on New Year's Day and could put the hip back, followed by strict crate rest. It was then that ADR.org heard about this incident and connected with the person who found her. When FLUFFY was scheduled for spay, the surgeon saw that she was pregnant. FLUFFY gave birth to eleven puppies on the last Day in Feb. She was a wonderfully dedicated mom. Up to now, all of her have been adopted except for three. Since the beginning of May Fluffy has lived on Orcas Island with the founder of ADR.org. She lives with other dogs and two cats. Fluffy is very smart, submissive as well as strong willing. Observations show that she might be better compatible with female dogs than with male dogs. But these are just observations and are not restrictive. She is good with cats in a household. Likes to patrol on solid fenced property, FLUFFY is independent and tends to respect a strong pack leader (human) as her “friend” or leader more than an undecided and fickle one. She would be a very good long-distance hiking partner being athletic as she is, and the fact that she likes long walks in Mother Nature. ADR.org thinks that FLUFFY would not do well in a city setting. If you are interested in meeting her, and here and seeing more of her you would need to be able to come to Orcas Island where she remains as of now. Contact AnimalDefense Rescue.org by emailing: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org so that we can send you an application. At the same time, you contact us, please tell us a bit about yourself, your family and send some pictures of your home. We look forward to hearing from you. WOOF

Story
***COUTRESY POST***Contact Orcas APS at info@orcaspets.org if you are interested in meeting this pet.Ignatz is a really loving and cuddly dog, mostly content to be asleep on the couch next to his owner. He would be an ideal companion for someone who is retired or works from home, as he is a great living companion. He never destroys property or gardens and is *extremely* well housebroken. He won’t sneak food or get into things. He loves people and snuggles, and will follow you around, very much a Velcro dog. He loves sitting in a large tote bag and being carried around. He is responsive to treats and training when in a calm state, but is easily put over-threshold, so is not good at being in busy areas. He has some separation anxiety and will be vocal periodically when left alone. He gets along with other dogs off leash and loves to play, but if there is a barrier (a leash or fence) he will become reactive. Ignatz needs to live somewhere with a private yard with fence so he can run freely. Another dog friend to play with could be a good match. Ignatz is naturally hairless on his body but has very soft skin. He needs sunscreen in the summer, He has many outfits for the winter and fall. His grooming needs are very minimal, and he is hypoallergenic. As a puppy he lived on Orcas Island but more recently he has been living in Berlin, Germany, where the congestion and crowds are difficult for him. He is being sadly re-homed due to changing jobs and no current access to a yard or garden. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and comes with an EU pet passport with his medical records. Disclaimer: The companion animal you are interested in is a courtesy post. Orcas APS often helps pets outside our organization to find new homes, and these are called "courtesy posts.” By courtesy posting pets from owners, we offer our website (and sometimes email assistance) as a resource to help their pet gain extra exposure. The pet’s bio comes directly from the owner, and we expect them to provide accurate information, to the best of their knowledge. Orcas APS in most cases has not met or evaluated these companion animals, so no information about a courtesy post is guaranteed. We cannot accept responsibility for any injury or damages to any person or property caused by any courtesy post animals. Courtesy post pets are the sole responsibility of the owner and the new family. In addition, Orcas APS cannot take these pets in if the courtesy post adoption does not work out. Also, although we occasionally might ask you to email us (if you’re interested in adopting a courtesy post pet), it’s just so we can help the owner connect with applicants. All unaltered courtesy posted dogs are required to be surgically altered before being rehomed.
