Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxPeggy Lee is a smart and spirited mix of shepherd/herding and working breeds. She seems to be always thinking and noticing. She takes time to warm up to people, but once she does, she cannot get enough belly rubs and snuggles. Until she feels comfortable, she will “alert bark” at strangers and does not want to be approached, unless it is on her terms. But… be ready for a complete 180. Displaying kindness and patience in the first few weeks will pay off in a lifetime of affection and adoration from this lovable girl. Before you know it, you will have a snuggle buddy and loving companion. She has begun occasionally letting a gentle stranger pet her, but it takes calm encouragement from the person she trusts. With consistency and support, she should greatly improve in this area. She went from being fearful of foster mom’s boyfriend to wanting belly rubs from him, within a few visits. She loves car rides, naps in the yard, trips to the dog park, walks, and any other adventures. She would probably be a happy boating dog. She may also enjoy agility or another active sport.  Peggy Lee is crate trained! After a few mournful moments as foster mom leaves for work, she settles down in the crate, much easier than when she’s left loose in the house. She will voluntarily choose to hang out in her crate even with the door wide open. But she wants to be near her people and part of the family. Peggy Lee has so much affection to give. She wants nothing more than to love and be loved. She is easy to train, when done in a loving way. Peggy learned sit, lay down, and “paw” (to shake) in just a few days. When I tell her she’s a good girl, her tail just thumps on the floor in pure happiness. She entertains herself with chew toys and loves a good squeaker. As a strong and athletic dog, she benefits from an opportunity to run and play every day. Don’t miss the video of her zoomies with the frisbee. Peggy Lee sleeps soundly at night in her dog bed on the floor, although she would be happy be with her human in the bed as well. She needs the company of another confident and interactive dog in her home. She looks to the other dog for cues for just about everything. She will gleefully engage in play with her doggy sibling. She is overly obsessed with cats, and very vocal about it, so she needs a cat-free home. She will keep all squirrels, cats, and birds out of your yard. She will also let you know if she sees a cat out the window.  Peggy Lee really is a special kind of dog who is just what someone out there is seeking. He does his best sleeping in a room with a human and is accustomed to sleeping on his dog bed, but will wander and be busy all night if allowed. Brock understands basic commands. We are working on maintaining these skills when in stimulating environments, which makes it much harder for him. Brock is a very busy mind and wound benefit from someone with skills or someone who is ready to take on training to help create a physically and mentally stimulating environment. We are focused on leash walking, focusing commands ('look at me') retrieval play, and 'leave it' commands.    Brock is very sweet and wants to be in someone's company. He loves morning snuggles and can be busy for hours playing fetch, walking, or if you are very daring- a little rollerblading. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxPatsy is such a sweet and loving dog. She is protective of her people and home. When new people come to her home Patsy wants to let them know they are in HER house, as a working dog, this is her job. We have been working with Patsy so she can have another job when new people come over. Patsy goes into her kennel on command and has a chew toy to 'work with'. She will bark for a bit and then calm down. She then can come out of her kennel to meet the new person while on a leash. She will need to continue this training, but is a very smart dog and catches on quickly. Patsy is good with our resident dogs and cat. She would do best in a home with another very active dog to play with or with a family who will exercise her regularly. She likes to talk (bark) a lot so would not be a good pet in a home with shared walls. She gets very excited when we get ice from our refridgerator's ice dispenser. She will bark and then get a toy and swing it around until she gets a piece of ice. She looks like she is smiling the entire time. I’m a sweet, playful, and energetic puppy! My favorite thing is the snow and being outside where I can run and play with the other dogs. I'd stay out in the fenced yard all the time if I could! My new family definitely should have a fenced yard because being outside is my favorite thing in the world. I live with cats now but don’t really care about them. I’m almost potty trained, will go in a kennel (but would prefer to stay out) and sleep in the big bed all night long. I’m very food motivated and will do anything for a treat. I’m super smart and can’t wait to learn all the tricks! I love my people but can entertain myself as long as I have a variety of toys. I’m ready to find my forever home! Adoption Fee: $495

Come and meet me at our adoption event at BUCH Brewing, Minneapolis on 4/13 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm! Hi, I’m Finch and am looking for my fur-ever family.  I’m smart and can't wait to spend more time outdoors once it warms up.  It is a little cool for a Texan girl right now.  Once I am a little older, I would like to go on long walks with you.  My little sister and the large resident dogs are fun to play with, too.  I’m adorable, especially when I roll on my back and show my big tummy. People just can't resist to pick me up and cuddle me since I have such a soft fur coat.  Potty training is still a work in progress but I know what to do when my foster parents bring me outside. I will be such a good girl for you if you decide to adopt me. I promise!

Story
Meet Marti! Marti is a 5 year old, neutered, double merle, male, who came to us almost completely feral. He is a slightly pudgy 40 pounds, crate trained, house broke (but still leaks a little urine when sleeping although we haven't tried medication for that yet as it has been improving). As he is double merle he has some vision issues as well. Marti will need a very special owner that is willing to give him plenty of time to learn to trust. At his foster home Marti gets along with other dogs, is great with cats, and walks off leash in a rural setting. Marti is that lower energy aussie everyone's looking for and would like a quiet home. Marti will need more training in cooperative Care which his foster is working on and is easy to implement. The details: Needs Fence: Depends on setting (needs to gain trust to be leashed, fence necessary in busier area) Good With Dogs: Yes Good With People: Needs patience Good with cats: Yes All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $300 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family. Aussie Rescue of MN is here for support, advice and as a safety net for our dogs for the rest of their lives.

Story
Introducing Lucy! Brand new to rescue, we know very little about Lucy, who came to rescue with Gemma, other than the basics: Lucy is 4 year old red merle spayed female weighing 28 lbs at intake, who was surrendered due to not being good with babies and young children in the home and was living in an unheated garage with Gemma. At current, both dogs are friendly & affectionate with people, soaking up all opportunities to be with them but are showing signs of not being good citizens with unfamiliar dogs at this time as they acclimate from living in a garage away from people and other dogs to being inside a home where human and canine contact is more regular. Lucy is also struggling some separation anxiety, which isn't surprising given her previous situation. We are currently taking some time to assess them as to their needs when it comes to living with other dogs long-term, but are seeking big hearts with time and patience to give who could be interested in fostering or foster-to-adopt applicants for these ladies. The details: Needs Fence: Yes Good with dogs: So far no Good with cats: Unknown, no exposure Good with kids: Older kids All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. Story
Eunice is a 1 year old, spayed female, Aussie mix. With her short legs and big ears I would not be surprised if there was some Corgi in there but we don't know what mix she is. Eunice was turned into a local animal control and transferred to ARM. Eunice is friendly with people, exhuberant and likes attention. She does jump up on people and needs some work on walking on a leash without pulling. She can be bit dog selective ( a bit of a guarder and defensive while in a foster home with 6 other dogs). She has been doing better with a single dog in her current foster home. Eunice needs some work on her manners but she is a nice girl that will settle into life as a great companian for someone. Her current foster home says: She can jump over the back of the couch, begs for attention a lot, can be sweet as pie, isn't signalling to go outside so needs training on that, destroys plush toys... Sounds like this girl needs an active home that will keep her mind busy and tired! The details: Needs fence: No, but we haven't tested her off leash either. Good with dogs: Mostly, can be obnoxious so needs tolerant other dog or to be an only dog. Good with cats: a little intense but did ok with cats that don't run. We would say no cats or managed well. (she is chasing the cat in her new foster home). Good with kids: Seems to be All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. Story
Odin is a 5 year olds, neutered male black bi Australian Shepherd. He is 37 pounds, housebroke, good with cats, and likes people but is bit nervous around strangers. He does pull on leash some, is well mannered in the house and can sit, down and shake. Odin is currently living in a foster with 6 other dogs with no issues. Odin was a transfer from a shelter in Iowa due to the fact that he has issues with body handling and needs some work in cooperative care to get him comfortable with grooming and vet visits. His foster is working on muzzle training and desensitizing him to brushing. Odin is very treat motivated and loves his training sessions on the grooming table. Scroll down on our facebook to see a live session on cooperative care using Odin as a demo. In that video I mention that Odin is headed to a new home. We took him there but the resident dog and Odin decided very quickly that they did not want to share a home and he came back to his foster the same day. The details: Needs fence: no, but unsure how he is off leash Good with dogs: yes, actively avoids conflict in house with 6 other dogs. Good with cats: yes Good with kids: likely not due to issues with bodily handling. Older kids would be fine. All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. Story
Meet Allie, a 2019 edition of a party colored Australian Shepherd x Border Collie weighing in at 42 lbs. This beautiful gal came to NWMNAR because her previous owner had to leave abroad to help take care of in-laws and could not take Allie with. Allie loves going to obedience class and showing how smart she is. Allie needs an Aussie savy owner her can outsmart her. She is best with dogs the same size, she has prey drive towards rabbits and may not do well with cats or other smaller animals possibly including smaller tiny dogs. Allie takes time with strangers and will often back away barking. Allie has been scared of men with hats in the past. She can be a bit barky towards other dogs on walks, but has been learning to play nice. She can be dominant towards other dogs. Allie doesn't like plastic crates, but does just fine in wire crate. Allie must be crated in a vehicle otherwise she will run around in a vehicle pushing window switches until she gets out. Allie is best to go for a walk before a car ride to ensure she doesn't nervous defecate in the vehicle. Allie hies and sleeps under the bed to keep the monsters away. Allie does like to vocalize herself if she sees other dogs outside when she is peering out the windows. She has just started to play with toys and gets groomed twice a week with a brush. Allie is available for adoption. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Meet and greets will take place in a public setting along with the adoption if compatible. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, Mn.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This beautiful 2017 edition of a Miniature Australian Shepherd came into rescue from a breeder release. She is now doing aussome in her foster home - and looking for a furever home where she will be cherished for the gem she is…That’s why her foster family calls her “Ruby!” Happy Ruby is quickly learning to live the good life! She’s easy going and gets along great with the male and female dogs in her foster family. She’s house trained, has excellent house manners, quiet, walks well on a leash, runs in the morning — and sleeps while you work. Ruby does not need a crate as she doesn’t chew on anything — and just sleeps while you’re gone — and she’s happy to see you when you return! Ruby has a very sweet personality and is very willing to please. Initially Ruby is shy but has good recall, once trust is established - and she would thrive in a pack as she gains security in union with siblings. Easily integrating, other dogs like her very much! Ruby has a calm, positive energy and ignores her foster’s cat. Ruby’s becoming a beautiful Velcro girl - following her foster mom wherever she goes - even on car rides, which Ruby loves ❤️ Ruby/Bella Dawn is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Unfortunately, her foster has some upcoming obligations and cannot keep her long term, so we need someone who is willing to take her the distance. Katie will do best in a home with a four legged sibling to continue to help her grow and shine.  She loves walks and to run so would be a great running partner for someone. She enjoys toys and cuddles with the people she trusts.  If you are new to her, give her a few minutes to let her check you out.  Once she feels safe, she is yours for life. House Broken Kennel trained Walks great on a leash Good with Dogs and cats Older children over 12 are fine.  Very young kids move too much and too fast. Chin Scratches are the best Katie is a teenager who’s mastering the ropes of being a family dog, so she is still learning to just be okay no matter what sounds might be scary or that new people are just people and nothing to worry about. The perfect home for Katie will understand that a little bit of patience goes a long way, and they will find joy in seeing her personality blossom.  The right environment will see her flourish into a perfect member of the family, and her rescue community can’t wait to see her succeed. Potential fosters or adopters should be willing to invest time in building a strong bond with Katie. A gradual introduction to new experiences and people, along with positive reinforcement training. Having a confident dog in her new home would be a great benefit to her as she can learn from them to trust the humans around her. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
He was born on a farm as part of a litter of 5 in January 2023, and my friend who was the owner was looking for homes for the puppies. I brought Oscar home with me in April '23, and we have had a lot of positive experiences going on walks, going to parks to meet other dogs, and playing fetch in the yard. He is my first dog, and I did not understand that as a border collie mix, that he would have such a strong desire to explore beyond my yard. He is able to jump the 4-foot fence in my backyard. I am worried about him getting out, and now he has been getting less exercise since I am not letting him in the backyard unsupervised unless he is on a cable. I think he will do better in another home.
