Story
Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet hound ISO happily ever after! FLOYD NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Floyd         Best Guess for Breed:  Treeing Walker coonhound mix  Best Guess for Age:  6 years as of March 2025       SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:  37 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopter.    Currently Living at:  Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here.    Special adoption considerations:  When Floyd arrived in the shelter, we noticed he was pretty scared in the hustle and bustle of busier environments. He's been making great strides but we think he will do best with ample opportunities to socialize with other dogs!   Floyd is Looking For:   This sweetie landed in the shelter due to no fault of his own. He's wise and experienced, and knows what's most important in life - having his own humans and being safe and loved and under his own roof. He's eager to once again have his own family, to trot alongside them on those sniffy walks (that hound nose!) and all the adventures they can dream up. In exchange, he promises love and adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all his days.  What do you say? Can you see Floyd by your side?   What Shelter Staff Say About Floyd: Floyd spent some time on the Dogs Playing For Life Canine Center campus in Florida. There, he received basic training and enrichment, and socialized with other dogs. Floyd worked on the Sit and Place commands there. He also worked on loose leash walking and sitting at open doors, waiting to be released to go out. He enjoyed playing with enrichment toys such as food-filled Kongs and food puzzles, and got to go on field trips. He enjoyed participating in playgroup with other dogs, and is mostly a gentle player.  What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. (*Please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending each event.*) You know the saying, "A penny for your thoughts"? Well, once you meet sweet Penny, she'll be the only thing on your mind! A recent mama, this lovely tricolor hound mix is 7 years young and has a calm and friendly demeanor. She's always ready to make new friends, whether human or canine. As for cats, we’re unsure if she sees them as friends or foes. Penny is the perfect balance of calm, cuddly, confidence, and independence. At seven years old, this sweet gal has experienced a lot, but she still enjoys roaming around outside and making new friends. Although she may be slow-going at times, Penny is still such a sweet pup. Penny loves to go on walks, and her leash manners are impeccable. She doesn’t seem to know any basic commands, but she’s a pro at “hounding,” taking her time to stop and sniff out every new scent she encounters—there’s always something exciting to discover in her eyes (and nose)! And, of course, like a true hound, she hasn’t met a treat she didn’t like. If you’re looking for an older laid-back gal with a calming presence who’ll be a loyal and loving companion, pretty Penny just might be the perfect match for you!

Story
Willa and Watson (siblings) came from the Brookhaven pound. We saw them on Face Book. The Brookhaven pound was going to put these puppies down because they were so shy. They couldn’t find a rescue group to take them. We decided to help them. They are super sweet, but they are very shy. Walter is not as shy as Willa. They feel very comfortable in their environment, but when taken to the vet, they do get nervous. They do respond to love, but they need somebody that will spend time with them. Because we are so overcrowded, they have never had an opportunity to live in the house. They were heavily bonded at the foster’s house, and they loved to play together. The foster did not spend any time with them, but the children played with them some in the fenced in area. They play well with other dogs, but they have never been around cats. Since they have been at Blue Ribbon Kennels, they have been in separate kennels for the past 13 months. They both need a special home with somebody that will spend a lot of time loving them, giving them a lot of attention and being patient with them. Plese help Willa, and maybe even consider adopting both of them! Willa and Watson are in Mississippi. Rescue Riders is a very reliable pet transport and will transport Willa to her new home. This is included in the adoption fee

Ruby is a girl that takes a minute to adjust but when she does, she will give you all of her. When she gets excited she'll show you by full body wiggles and the tongue hanging out the side of her mouth. She thinks that she can work her way into any dogs heart and the sound of her voice can get her whatever she wants. Ruby excels with at least one other dog to help show her what right looks like. Story
Sweet little Eliot was found orphaned with 27 other Beagles when his owner passed away and he suddenly had to fend for himself. Despite living mostly outdoors, having a rough initial skin condition, and several broken teeth, he has not lost his sweet spirit. This smart little waif is house broken and a generally happy man. He stands up to greet his favorite humans when they come into the room and rewards them with a big smile and lots of tail wags. He is mellow, patient and never aggressive towards his furry four legged house mates even when they are a little too eager to get to know him. Eliot just wants a second chance on a happy life with a family who gives him unconditional love and lots of head and ear pets. He even rolls on his back when you enter the room for some belly rubs. He sees and hears well, can do a whole flight of stairs, and is great in the car. Won't you make this charming little guy your next best friend? Fostered in Clinton, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Doc was unfortunately returned to the rescue. This is Doc's updated bio as of 12/2024: Doc is a friendly, playful, and affectionate 4-year-old beagle mix with a heart of gold. He loves to be around people and is especially good with kids, making him an ideal family companion. His calm and gentle nature means he’s also fantastic with other dogs.. Whether it’s playing in the yard, lounging on the couch, or simply following you around, Doc loves to be close to his humans and thrives in a loving, interactive environment. Favorite Activities: &#226&#151&#143 Playtime: Whether it's a game of fetch, tug-of-war, or a good chase in the backyard, he loves staying active and having fun with his family. &#226&#151&#143 Cuddling: He’s also a big fan of snuggling up after a long day, often seeking out your lap or curling up beside you to relax. Training and Behavior: &#226&#151&#143 Potty-trained: Yes &#226&#151&#143 Good with commands: Doc knows basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come,” though like many dogs, he occasionally gets distracted by new smells or exciting sights. &#226&#151&#143 Social: He’s social with both people and other dogs, making him a perfect companion for outings, dog parks, and playdates. Health: &#226&#151&#143 Neutered: He has been neutered and is up-to-date on vaccinations and preventative care. Ideal Home: Doc would thrive in a loving home where he can get plenty of attention, exercise, and cuddles. He would do well in a household with children or other dogs, as he’s always eager to make new friends and share the love.       ------------ Original Bio from June 2020  Doc Hudson is an adorable 4 month old puppy that is now the only puppy left from his litter mates. We have no idea what breeds he is mixed with or how much he will shed. At best guess he is a hound terrier mix who could grow to be anywhere from 40-80 pounds. Doc Hudson is great with all dogs and loves all people. He is the perfect combination of playful and affectionate and would do great in any home that will provide the training that all puppies need.
