Meet Phoenix!-2 year old pitbull mix (breed is simply a guess!)-Weighs around 50lbs-Came into the Shelter as a stray so we do not have a history of this dog’s life before the Shelter-Observed in a home short term. Noted to be house trained, enjoyed sleeping on the couch, and got along with the resident dog-Has been social and easy going since arrival at the Shelter -No history with cats or childrenPlease note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Meet Ginger!-1 year, 6 month old Malinois mix (Malinois is just a guess!)-Weighs 55lbs-In foster with a couple and their XL breed male dog and thriving!-Loves to play fetch, go for hikes and play with the resident dog-Enjoys a good sunbathing session like the CA girl she is-Knows “sit” and “down”-House trained and crate trained-Not recommended to live in a home with cats Ginger’s foster parent says: ”Ginger is a happy, spirited girl who’s ready to find her forever home! With lots of love to give, she’s full of personality and charm, making her the perfect companion for an active family.”Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! MEET DARLA! Darla is a sweet and gentle 6-year-old purebred Doberman Pinscher. (Purebred verified by DNA testing). She is elegant, pretty and very affectionate -- and she gets along great with other dogs. Darla was rescued from a crowded California shelter, and now is a big favorite with volunteers, who call her a "real sweetheart". She is a well-behaved girl, but is quite strong, and will pull when she sees squirrels on a walk! Darla is in good health. She dos have a small lump on her underside, but this has been vet-checked and determined to be a benign fatty tumor, not a source of potential trouble. Darla will be totally devoted to her person. She is a gem and whomever adopts her will be very lucky. She weighs about 65 lbs. Please email for an application.

He looks more like a Dobie than a German Shepherd, and is sweet as they come! Carter was rescued from a scary California shelter, where he was kenneled with another dog and did great. He loves other dogs and is a joy with people, always having a smile to go. He still has some puppy energy, but calms down quickly. He's sweet and affectionate, and very intelligent. He would do best in a home with an active person, people or family with older kids. He would make an ideal family dog. He weighs about 65 lbs. Please email for an application.

HI - I'M DREAM! I'm a 4-year-old blue-and-white Pit Bull Terrier, in need of a foster or forever home. I have been waiting for a couple of years for a home - and keep getting overlooked since I suppose, I'm one of many who need homes right now. I am an easygoing boy - I love people and have done well with other dogs. I was surrendered at the shelter because my previous owners said they could not handle a puppy. Like most pitties, I'm a strong boy and will do well with an experienced owner who wants a loving companion. I love to chase the hose and will bark whenever I see it because I get so excited! I'm definitely a water dog. I'm also very food motivated and I love treats. I weigh about 50 pounds. Can you foster or adopt me? Please email for an application.

MEET GOLDIE, a beautiful & young Mastiff in need of a foster or forever home! Goldie is a 1-year-old girl and is still a big puppy! She already weighs 90 pounds, and will likely put on weight as she grows up.She was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter. Goldie is a sweet, gentle dog. She is slightly shy, especially with men, but very affectionate once she gets to know you. She gives big kisses! We do not know too much yet about how she is with other dogs, because she caught a doggy cough at the shelter. But given her gentleness, we are expecting she will be good with other dogs, and we will test her soon. She would do well with a single person, a couple or a family with older kids.
