Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday June 29th from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $500 Rutabaga is a 7 year old Miniature Pinscher mix who was surrendered to us when her family was moving and was no longer able to take care of her. Rutabaga is the kind of dog that takes a bit of time to warm up to you but then she is your one and only forever. If you are looking for an older (golden) gal who still has a TON of love to show the world, Rutabaga is your girl.  Below is a note from Rutabaga's foster. 'Rutabaga is the kind of dog that takes a few days to come out of her shell but once she has, she is the biggest snuggler and cuddler I have ever met. She follows me absolutely everywhere (but she isn't clingy). When I have to work she is happy to sit on her bed and play with a toy, but her ideal spot is sitting on my lap and having me pet her for hours. The funniest thing we discovered is that she is more likely to want attention when we are giving it to someone else, then she is like 'me me me!' Rutabaga wakes up around 7 AM and heads out for a 15 minute potty walk. She has breakfast and then spends some of her morning lounging around while I get some work done. She gets another walk in the middle of the day before another nap. She gets a long walk in the evening before having dinner and settling down for the evening. Rutabaga has gotten along well with big and small dogs alike. I don't think she thinks she is as small as she is, because she has that fearless big dog energy that only small dogs seem to emulate. Rutabaga likes a walk but she is totally a couch potato dog when we let her hang out on the couch.  My favorite thing about Rutabaga is when she wants attention she will stand on her back two legs to try and show off, but then she loses her balance and sometimes ends up toppling over onto a soft bed nearby.'   Rutabaga is only an option for those who have owned a dog in the past 5 years, with emphasis placed on those applications who have experience with shy dogs. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10 and on the quieter side, as she is a smaller gal who needs a bit of time to warm up to new people and loud kids could freak her out. July 14, 2024, 2:44 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $550 Duke is a 4 year old Min Pin mix who was rescued from one of our local shelter partners. Those who know the Min Pin breed will recognize the personality just bursting out of Duke, even from his pictures! Like his name suggests, this royal pup knows how cute he is and he struts his stuff to show it! Below is a note from Duke’s foster.  “Duke is a very smart and curious pup. He loves to cuddle and he loves to play. He adores his squeaky toys and can keep himself occupied for hours if I am working and can’t toss his toys for him. He loves to roll around in his dog bed. He is such a goofy dog with so much personality, even though he is very small.  Duke wakes up around 8 AM and gets his morning walk and potty break. He comes inside for breakfast and then snuggles in for a morning nap. He gets another potty break around noon and likes to hang out and play with his toys throughout the afternoon. In the evening, he gets a longer walk and has dinner before watching TV with us. Bedtime is at 10 PM and he sleeps in his crate. Duke has not had any accidents with us. Duke is learning his leash manners with other dogs on walks. He gets very excited when he sees other dogs outside but takes corrections well. He could live with another dog, but he would love to soak up solo love from his forever home. He loves all the adults and kids he has met. He is going to be such a good companion for his lucky new family.” Duke is only an option for those homes who have owned a dog previously. Children in the home should be over the age of 15.July 14, 2024, 2:44 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.  Adoption Fee: $700   Piper is an 8 year old Lhasa Apso mix who was rescued from a local overflowing shelter. This gal came right to the front of her enclosure with a wag in her tail and soulful eyes, so we absolutely couldn’t say no to saving her! She is the perfect package all wrapped up with an adorable underbite! Piper has a gorgeous non-shedding coat which means she will require regular grooming. She is an option for those with allergies or those who just want less hair around the house.    Below is a note from Piper’s foster.  “Piper is a goofy, friendly, loving and energetic dog who has been an absolute joy since day one! She has an adorable underbite which gives her a perpetual smile, making it hard to resist giving her anything and everything she desires! She is adventurous in her quest to sniff all the good smells in the world but still likes to end her day curled up in a soft dog bed. She is playful and will happily chase after her toys, but when she wants a break she will nudge her head into your hand for endless pets. She is an absolutely perfect gal who will be a fabulous addition to any home!  Piper starts her day at 7 AM and goes outside for a potty break. She has breakfast around 8:30 AM and then spends her days snoozing on soft blankets and beds around the house. She gets an afternoon walk and she loves sniffing her way through the neighborhood. After her walk, she spends some time playing with her foster home before she has dinner at 6 PM. In the evening, she cuddles with us before heading to bed around 9 AM.  Piper gets along well with other dogs when she meets off-leash. She needs a slow introduction to new people and reacts best to people who are willing to work through her Napoleon complex. Once she gets to know her people, she will be nothing but loving forever. Piper would do best in a home where there is less chaos, so older kids only.”   Piper needs a home with prior experience so she can best thrive. She would do best with a home ready to continue her training and exposure to the world. Kids should be over the age of 15.  July 13, 2024, 10:52 am

If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.     Adoption Fee: $500 Acorn is a 2 year old Chihuahua mix who was surrendered to DPS after being rescued by a good samaritan who stepped in and saved him from a bad situation. While we may not know everything about this guy before he came to us, we know that everything has been coming up 'A-corn' ever since he joined our rescue! This petite dude has been working on his gains, and can’t wait to find a loving forever home to show off his amazing personality in!    Below is a note from Acorn’s foster. “Acorn is a sweet and sensitive little guy who adores his chosen people more than anything else in the entire world. For such a small guy, it is understandable that the world around him is very big, but watching his confidence grow in the time he has been with me has been amazing to see. He likes to stay as close as possible to me as I go about my day and is the world’s most adorable shadow. Acorn is more of a lounger than a playing dog and is happy to snooze the day away in his doggy bed next to you as you work. This boy is so sweet and gentle and took to my house quickly. He has the cutest way of seeking attention, putting his front paws on the couch or my leg and gazing at me with his puppy dog eyes. He loves it when I scoop him up onto my lap for a cuddle.  Acorn wakes up at 7:30 and heads right outside for a walk and potty followed by breakfast. He trots along next to me as I get ready for work and then snoozes next to me as I start my day, getting up when I do to make sure he doesn’t miss the chance for a treat! He gets another meal around lunchtime before his afternoon walk and dinner. We unwind from the day as we watch TV and snuggle. Acorn turns in for the night around 10 PM and happily heads to his crate to dream of treats and snuggles ahead the next day!  Acorn gets along with dogs and would do well with a confident canine sibling who can continue showing him the ropes, but he would also thrive as a solo pup. He walks well on a leash but is still building his confidence around loud noises and sudden movements outdoors. Acorn is such a chill and loving companion once he warms up to you. I promise this guy will be your faithful buddy for life if you are lucky enough to earn his love!”   Acorn is only an option for those with prior dog experience, with shy dog experience prioritized. Another dog in the home would likely be the best fit for Acorn. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10 and understand the needs of a shy dog.  July 13, 2024, 8:31 pm

If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $400   Spring is an 8 year old Dachshund-Pit mix who can’t wait to blossom with her forever family! Spring came to our rescue with her litter of 2 week old babies after she was abandoned at the shelter, which is no place for a sweet little family. Now that her babies are all grown up and she has had some Mama relaxation time, she is ready to find a home to live out her golden years in! Spring weighs 27 pounds and is a low-rider! Are you a Pitbull lover but the size of a typical Pitty doesn't fit your life? Well, we have your answer here. This girl is all that but in a compact size!   Below is a note from Spring’s foster.  “Spring is a fabulously cuddly and loving gal who can’t wait to meet her new BFF! When you first meet her, she can take a little bit to warm up but once she does, she is ready for non-stop snuggles. She would love to find a home where she can spend her days loving her people, being the best zoom companion ever! Spring is more of a couch potato kind of dog, but she does love her daily romps around the neighborhood. Spring is fully potty trained both with potty pads and outside. Spring adores the softer things in life, from blankets to toys and dotes on her Lamb Chop. Spring would be a perfect hike companion or a “snuggle and movie” friend.  Spring starts her morning with a potty break and breakfast at around 7 AM. During the day, she hangs out in a playpen with her bed and toys. She spends her time mostly snoozing and soaking up the sunshine. After I finish work for the day, we go on a walk to the park where she sniffs and gets her zoomies out. After her walk, she comes home for dinner and snuggles as I unwind from the day. She ends her day curled up on her soft dog bed as she dreams of adventures ahead!  Spring would do best in a home where she can be the only dog, or with a chill companion. She loves walks and trots alongside me as we wander the neighborhood. Spring gets along with all people, but prefers a slow introduction, so a home with loud kids might not be the best fit for her. Spring is such a lovely girl with beautiful, soulful eyes who deserves the absolute best forever home.” Spring would be best suited for a home with prior dog experience, but she could be a first-time dog. Spring would do best as a solo dog. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10.July 14, 2024, 2:44 pm

If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $600   Pesto is a  4 month old Dachshund x Basenji mix who is serving up cuteness and puppy kisses! Pesto came to us with his brothers and sisters, but he is now a solo dude looking for his forever family! We promised the wait would be beyond worth it for him. These babies came to us with Mama Pasta from a hoarding situation with 12 other dogs. We arrived expecting a few adults and instead were met with puppies, Mama, and their friends. Well, we refused to leave anyone behind so these babies came with us and started their new lives! We expect Pesto to be in the 15-17 pound range when he reaches his adult weight, as he weighs 10 pounds as of May 30.    Pesto is a confident and charismatic puppy who leads the pack in zoomies and snuggles. One minute, he is chasing his sisters across the yard and the next he is crashing into your lap for cuddles. Pesto is a true gentleman who loves to give kisses to his admirers, winning even the staunchest #TeamCat people over to #TeamDog! With his soulful eyes, wagging tail, and adorable little body, Pesto promises you will fall in love with him faster than you can say P(r)esto! Pesto is a favorite of the rescue, as we have found it impossible to resist his loving personality and ability to pose for the camera! Can you say, future model? He can rock any accessory, which makes him an amazing fashionista for anyone lucky enough to adopt him. Pesto is also super smart and food motivated, so we know he will be the top pupil at any training course he enters. You truly won’t find a more amazing companion than our fabulous Pesto!  Pesto sleeps overnight in his crate until around 7 AM when his foster parents start their day. He heads straight outside to the backyard for potty and playtime with toys and zoomies; then he has breakfast and lounges in sun puddles. Pesto enjoys car rides, on-leash walks in the neighborhood, and outdoor restaurant lunch dates with his foster mom. He is almost fully potty trained. During the midday Pesto naps in his pen while their foster parents work. When everyone comes home, he heads back outside for more playtime. Pesto LOVES the backyard. He has dinner at 6 PM followed by romping and playtime in the kitchen while his foster parents cook dinner. Pesto's favorite thing is spending the evening snuggling on the couch next to his foster parents and watching TV until bedtime at 10 PM. Pesto lives with a large breed dog and 2 cats and does very well with all animals. Pesto will need continued socialization and training to ensure he is a confident and curious adult. Pesto would love a yard and a companion in his new home but could thrive in any environment as long as he has love and affirmation! Pesto promises to bring fabulous culinary adventures to his forever home! Pesto is an option for homes with prior dog experience, even if that experience is less recent. Kids in the home should be over the age of 5.July 13, 2024, 10:52 am
